Black and white and gold all over, Kate and Mike’s LA wedding at SmogShoppe was crazy glam and a day they’ll never forget. Wedding planner Nam Lam of Modern LA Weddings achieved the sophisticated, yet personal, look Kate and Mike had envisioned for their wedding. We love that Kate’s bridesmaids carried gold-painted magnolias and wore off-the-rack Nicole Miller dresses, both of which served to make the bride shine even brighter in her incredible Inbal Dror gown. All the while, photographers Callaway Gable captured moment after moment for the newlyweds to cherish for the rest of their years.

I wanted to stay true to my personal style but I didn’t want to choose anything I thought I would hate looking at in 10 years. I think the outfit I wore in my senior portraits taught me that lesson! I loved my dress, definitely a once in a lifetime chance to wear a gown like that! I didn’t have my girls wear a bridesmaid dress, I chose an off the rack Nicole Miller dress and almost all of them have had the chance to wear it since then!
We wanted our venue to be fun. Stylish but un-stuffy. The most important thing to me was that it looked great. The most important thing to Mike was that it stayed in budget. We had an amazing wedding planner that helped us balance those two things!
I had to pee the second I was supposed to walk down the aisle! The played the song before my processional 3 times waiting for me to get in and out of that dress. Remember to do the basics, like eat and pee.
We wanted to incorporate our families in some way, after all if it wasn’t for them neither of us would be who we were today. My godfather married us and we had my 94 year old grandmother read a poem.
We went with black and white with gold accents, because that is pretty much the same colors I choose for everything. I felt it was timeless, I don’t think I’ll ever look back at black and white and think it looks dated.
