Impossibly Romantic Woodland Wedding at YMCA Camp Round Meadow

March 27, 2016 | editorial team

Gina & Ryan Photography - 059

Erika and Garrett both love camping and the outdoors, so as soon as they came across YMCA Camp Round Meadow, they knew it was the perfect outdoor venue to have their wedding. They loved the woodsy feel that the camp had, and the forest surrounding the cabins gave them more than enough room to get their dog and huge group of family and friends involved in the ceremony and reception. Gina & Ryan Photography joined in on all the fun, and the entire day looked like a scene straight out of a fairy tale.

The Couple:

Erika and Garrett

The Wedding:

YMCA Camp Round Meadow, Angelus Oaks, California

We were set on having a venue with green trees everywhere. Once we found it, we knew we didn’t need much other decoration aside from lighting and flowers because the trees were already so beautiful. Part of the vibe was inspired by the movie, Twilight, and the rest was from good Pinterest searching.

We personalized our ceremony by reciting our own vows, having our dog as one of the groomsmen, and we had Garrett’s father marry us. We also got help from family and friends to fold one thousand origami cranes and string them from the trees at the ceremony site. It is a Japanese tradition for good luck.

I ended up wearing a dress that wasn’t anything like what I was originally looking for, but I fell in love with the delicate and intricate lace on the top of the dress. Then, I had the shop design a tulle skirt that I could wear over the dress to give it some volume. It was an ivory, and that inspired the wedding party colors. It was all about colors for us. I loved how the navy, ivory, and tans matched together in the forest with the red accents.

We chose our venue after weeks of research! We knew it was perfect once we saw it because it was big enough to fit 300 people, included cabins for overnight stay, allowed our huge trailer BBQ, and the trees were beautiful. It just had that romantic, woodsy feel that we were looking for.

The best surprise of the night was mine and Garrett’s moms, along with my grandma, his aunt, and all of their other lady friends, did a flash mob dance to “Uptown Funk.” Everyone was completely surprised and had no idea they had been planning that dance for months!

Ethereal Stockholm Wedding at Dalarö Skans

March 27, 2016 | editorial team

Ethereal-Stockholm-Wedding-Dalaro-Skans-38

Wanting to give their out of town guests the best taste of Stockholm, Katrina and Martin had their wedding at Dalarö Skans. The added privacy of the island really stuck out to the couple, as they wanted to keep their ceremony and reception limited to the people who they couldn’t see themselves without in the future. When planning, they left a lot of the specific details up to nature and practicalities, which suited them just fine. Therese Winberg Photography captured so many moments throughout the day, and now the couple has authentic and beautiful memories of their oh so special day.

The Couple:

Katrina and Martin

The Wedding:

Dalarö Skans, Stockholm, Sweden

Martin’s brother and friends soulfully aced playing and singing “What a wonderful world” mid-ceremony. It was a great chance to pause and “really look everyone in the eyes” (as the Swede’s say)! To see family and friends we loved from all over the world together in one place for the first time was seriously magical.

The island was so naturally beautiful we didn’t have to do much. We stuck to whites and greens and a few pops of colour from Swedish wildflowers and berries our friends picked from their summer house. Also, our 3 bridesmaids lived in 3 different countries so we didn’t want to try to match hues. I guess we left it to nature and practicalities which suited us just fine!

We wanted to give our mostly out of town guests the best taste of Stockholm, the place we love and now call home. Dalarö Skans was the first and last venue we saw. We loved the idea of doing it in the privacy an island in the Archipelago that was so tiny you could literally run the length of it from end-to-end in minutes.

Both our fathers gave fantastic speeches, and then Martin’s dad surprised us by getting out his accordion to sing a modified version of a famous Australian song. He had changed all the lyrics to tell the story of how Martin and I met and had everyone in fits of laughter. The speeches (and more surprise song numbers) only got better from there.

Sweetly Colorful Scottish Wedding at Gilmerton House

March 26, 2016 | editorial team

www.christophercurrie.co.uk

Rachel and Andy wanted to have their wedding somewhere they could spend an entire weekend celebrating with family and friends. Gilmerton House gave them that and more – it had all the space they needed in addition to the room for a marquee and the ability to get married in the woodland outdoors. Luckily, the weather cooperated, and photographers Chris and Gill of The Curries got some fantastic shots of the couple in the fields. Eileen from Sugar8 created a beautiful video of Rachel and Andy’s big day, and it looked like all of their guests had a grand old time celebrating together!

I spent forever looking at dresses, and really struggled to find something that felt like “the one”. In the end Rachel, at Rachel Scott Couture, introduced me to the “Jessica” Sassi Holford Dress. The dress was originally strapless so Sassi added some lace straps and lowered the back for me. I added a simple cut edge tulle veil and some flowers in my hair along with a handmade pearl bracelet from Rachel Scott and some metallic Jimmy Choos.

We wanted a Church of Scotland ceremony, so kept our vows traditional. Andy’s sister read “On Marriage” by Kahil Gibran, and our close friends read the more light-hearted “A Lovely Love Story” by Edward Monkton. We had the very talented Button Boys playing the guitar in the background. We said our vows under a fabulous floral arch that was dotted with tree stumps and strewn petals.

With the guys all wearing their own mismatched kilts we stuck with grey tweed jackets and bowties. Andy went for a pale green tweed and bowtie combo with his family tartan. Originally I wanted the girls in mismatched dresses, however, a month before the wedding i had second thoughts and sent them all back! We ended up with 3 of them wearing a pale lychee dress and the other 2 in pale grey, to tie everyone together.

We gave all our guests a welcome cocktail on arrival before the ceremony, blackberry, and elder flower pimms (very British!). For our escort cards we gave everyone gold glitter dipped animals with a dymo name tag round their neck; they were not intentionally meant to be favors, however, most of the guests took them home as a keepsake.

We wanted to keep it super relaxed, and an informal party vibe later in the day. Good food, flowing drinks and music were our top priorities. The house itself was very formal inside, however, we wanted to keep the ceremony more on the whimsical side, and the decor understated with ribbons, lots of wild blooms and gold dipped feathers hanging across the length of the marquee.

After the ceremony I took off my veil and added a floral crown. I had bought another dress from the high street store, Phase 8, as I wanted something that would let me dance the night away without restricting me with corseting when the party got started. We had a traditional Scottish Ceilidh so it was super important that I could be swung around!
