California-Inspired Kentucky Wedding at Long Ridge Farm

Nicole and Dale brought the very best of California into their Kentucky wedding, wanting both of their hometowns to be represented. Having first met in California, they wanted to make sure that the state was represented as equally as their new home, so they brought in oranges from Orange County and vintage post cards from the Derby, Disneyland, and Laguna Beach. The venue itself, Long Ridge Farm, was a true representation of Kentucky. Firm Anchor Photography captured all the sweet moments from Nicole and Dale’s big day, starting with their emotional first look. The look on Nicole’s face in that moment says it all.

I am so glad that we decided to do a first look. Not only did it not take away from the ceremony moment, it gave us our two most beautiful memories that day. I will never forget the nerves and butterflies as I made the long walk down the hill to the wooded area where Dale stood with his back to me. I cried happy tears all the way down to him.

One of my favorite things that we made was the canvas we stood on during the wedding ceremony. We went to Lowes and bought drop cloths and my friend hand painted them for us in our wedding colors. I love this piece so much because after the wedding we built a frame and made a HUGE canvas out of it that covers our entire wall in our kitchen.

We walked through the entire process together. we wanted people to walk in and say, “wow this is so Dale and Nicole”. That is why we decided to do a California meets Kentucky wedding. Dale is from California and that is where we met. I’m from Kentucky so having the wedding in Kentucky in a barn with the chic decor brought the two together.

We personalized the wedding with things from our hometowns. On the bridal party table we had oranges for his hometown in Orange County. We had state flags of California and Kentucky. We had vintage postcards from the Derby, Disneyland (our favorite place), Laguna Beach (where we got engaged, and other favorite landmarks.

As the song “We Are Your Friends” faded out, our guests formed a line with glow sticks and cheered as Dale and I ran to our car to leave and waved goodbye to all our family and friends they all gave us that same smile that said “you did it we love you so much.” So thankful for our beautiful day and all the laughs and happy tears with the people we love.

Gorgeous Natural Swedish Wedding at Haringe Slott

April 17, 2016 | editorial team

Wanting to have a destination wedding, Nina and Jop had their wedding at Häringe Slott just outside of Stockholm, Sweden. The couple thought it would be the perfect location because of Nina’s Swedish roots, and they loved the venue itself because it had a lot of history, was big enough to host their friends and family traveling near and far to attend the wedding, and was classic but not too chic. In contrary to most Dutch traditions, they decided to recite their own personal wedding vows and selected Jop’s best friend to officiate the ceremony. Photographer Therese Winberg captured every moment from the romantic affair, including Nina and Jop’s choreographed first dance during the reception.

I wore a beautiful Berta Bridal gown with short sleeves, cleavage, open back and detailed lacing and embroidery with pearls. Jewelry designer Bibi van der Velden made a custom-made veil of vintage lacing with in the middle a diamond brooch I inherited from my grandmother. At night, I changed in a short Dolce & Gabanna golden party dress with matching D&G earrings.

At the venue they have this beautiful outside roundabout with ivy growing over the walls with in the middle a fountain. All our guests sat under a beautiful tent and Nina was ‘given away’ by her father’s brother and Jop was standing there waiting to receive his bride – it was as if time stood still for a moment.

In contrary to most Dutch traditions, we decided to speak out the wedding vows ourselves. Jop’s best friend Wibe was our masters of ceremony and he did the most tremendous job. Choosing for a friend instead of an official referent made it so much more personal.

They say a lot about weddings but one thing is for sure; the most important aspect is celebrating the love between to people with your friends and family. The rest is a sideshow. With that in mind you can never get stressed out on the little things or when things just don’t go the way you have planned.

We prepared our spectacular wedding dance with one of the best modern dancers in the Netherlands: Anna-Alicia Skilas. She taught us a whole routine with two lifts and some sexy moves. The classes were so much fun and on the night itself it was a big surprise to our guests.

Delightfully Colorful Backyard Wedding in Louisiana

April 16, 2016 | editorial team

Delightfully-Colorful-Backyard-Wedding-Louisiana-28

Blair and Emmanuel’s colorful wedding in Louisiana will have you thinking that nothing beats a backyard wedding. The couple enlisted the help of their family and friends to turn Blair’s parents’ home into an artsy and fun backyard celebration. They kept the atmosphere relaxed and playful for their guests, choosing a a lawn game theme. They DIYed all of the decorations and signs, a life-size Jenga game, a bottle cap checkers game, a photo booth frame wall, and so many other crafts and details. Though they loved every minute of their reception, they also wanted to remain focused on the sacrament of Holy Matrimony, and Jen Menard Photography was in attendence to snap a picture of the couple saying “I do” to one another.

What was most important for us when planning our wedding was being able, the day of, to focus on the Sacrament of Matrimony! We also wanted our wedding to be personalized and for the atmosphere to be relaxed, intimate, and fun! These different goals shaped virtually all of our planning!

For my processional song I asked our pianist to learn and play a song my husband wrote many years ago. It was a very special moment in our ceremony and I loved surprising him with it!

My sister and brother-in-law made a 20-foot-long garland of felt flowers and all of our signs, and my brother made amazing wooden crates from recycled pallet wood. We designed our invitations, programs, and maps. We made, with our families’ help, a life-sized Jenga game, a bottle cap Checkers game, a full size tee-pee, lace bunting flags, pew markers, a tree stump cake stand, as well as so many other crafts and details!
