Just Try Not to Smile at This Adorable Milwaukee Engagement

June 16, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

Ashley and Grant’s Milwaukee engagement session at Walker Point is just too adorable! Between a butterfly maxi dress paired with a leather jacket and metallic booties, the cutest red dress with strappy heels, and a dramatic all-black ensemble, we think Ashley’s outfits are pure e-sesh genius. Grant’s urban style choices also complement Ashley’s attire and Milwaukee’s industrial settings perfectly. Studio 29 Photography + Design photographed the couple’s amazingly fun romp around Walker Point, and captured Ashley and Grant partaking in one of our favorite photo trends: smoke bombs!

Industrial Downtown Arizona Wedding at monOrchid

June 16, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

As graphic designers, Erin and Ruben wanted a unique industrial venue with a downtown art gallery vibe for their Arizona wedding. When the couple stepped foot in monOrchid, they knew right away that they found the perfect site for their industrial minimalist aesthetic! Wedding colors of black and white harkened to Erin and Ruben’s days at art school, and accents of copper honored the groom’s family’s ties with the Arizona copper mining industry. We love how all of the design elements were designed by Erin and Ruben themselves, like the ceremony backdrop that paid homage to the couple’s first art school assignment. Kym Ventola Photography masterfully captured the venue’s industrial beauty, as well as stole the couple away for some stunning portraits in downtown Phoenix.

Aside from having a memorable and fun party, the details were incredibly important in making it our own. We are both graphic designers, so we strived to have every detail visual interesting and meaningful to us in some way or another. From our ceremony backdrop to invitations and centerpieces – it was all in the details.

All the little moments. Getting ready with the bridal party, first looks, escaping during cocktail hour with our photographer to explore downtown, seeing everyone enjoying themselves, having a private moment during the chaos to eat alone together, and just dancing the night away.

My favorite photos are the first look shots where beams of light briefly passed though a small window. It was like fate and Kym being the artist she is captured it beautifully.

We definitely knew we wanted a nontraditional setting for our wedding. As designers we naturally were drawn towards the industrial warehouse look where we could let the venue shine without much decoration.

Our ceremony backdrop was a homage to our first project in design school. With the help of family and friends we assembled it out of black and white fabric before rehearsal.

Our photographer was the absolute best to work with. She was everything a bride needs on her wedding day. She made herself visible and invisible when needed and was such a positive and supportive energy to have around. It was like having one of your oldest friends photograph your whole day exactly how you imagined.

4 Statement Flowers to Step Up Your Bridal Bouquet

June 15, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

statement flowers

We’ve seen our fair share of beautiful bridal bouquets here at Junebug Weddings, from the overgrown armfuls of blooms to the minimalist bunches of leaves. However, the first bouquets to come to mind are always those with a statement flower turning up the volume on the arrangement. We’re all about taking your floral design to the next level, and these four flowers come with a serious punch!

Protea

No statement bloom list would be complete without the king of all flowers: the protea! This flower, which happens to be the national flower of South Africa, is known for its unusual shape: a row of large, spiked pink petals that open to expose a large center made up of fine spines.

Anemone

What the anemone lacks in size, it makes up for in visual interest. The white flower with a dark black or navy center draws the eye in, whether its surrounded by a neutral bouquet or a handful of bold blooms.

Dahlia

While dahlia bouquets are nothing new, using them as a statement has been a major trend in floral design recently. Adding a large dahlia bloom in your wedding color creates a beautiful visual statement, drawing the eye in and around the rest of your bouquet. The curved, pointed petals will grab the attention of your guests, and they photography gorgeously too!

Peony

In 2016, a girl’s best friend is none other than the soft, pink peony. They’re utterly romantic with their delicate petals, while adding volume due to their notable size. Just one peony is all it takes to elevate your bouquet from pretty to swoon-worthy.
