Stylish Vail, Colorado Wedding at The Sonnenalp

February 4, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Stylish Vail, Colorado Wedding at The Sonnenalp Joel Bedford Weddings-13

Kara and Mac’s wedding at The Sonnenalp is everything we love about mountain weddings: distinctly sophisticated style, rustic alpine vibes, and breath-taking views! The couple exchanged vows in a quaint chapel then partied all night long in the glass-enclosed reception hall that offered a perfect view of the mountains and allowed the naturally beautiful colors of Colorado to surround the entire space. The bride looked effortlessly chic and picture-perfect in an intricate lace Ines Di Santo, messy braid, and natural makeup. Joel & Justyna and second shooter – M. Lindsay Shuptar captured some brilliant moments that are sure to inspire anyone who’s ever dreamt of a mountain wedding!

Mac and I met in Colorado, and the mountains have always been special to both of us for different reasons. My family has always loved The Sonnenalp; it provides the most perfect combination of alpine rustic vibes and European elegance. When we visited the venue and saw the all-glass room with a retractable glass ceiling we were sold. The gorgeous rocky mountain scenery could be seen from the dinner tables/dance floors. Not to mention, the adorable Vail Chapel was right next door. Our guests didn’t need to get in a car all weekend, everything was within walking distance in Vail Village!

We did our first look right behind the chapel in a grassy area that backed up to a beautiful stream. It was close enough to the chapel to feel the energy of the guests arriving but the sound of the stream was enough to drown out any noise or distraction making it feel very private.

Tapping Mac on the shoulder literally felt like the first moment of our forever. He took my breath away. We laughed, we cried. It was unbelievably special.

We cannot rave enough about working with Joel. He is so easy going and kind that you are instantly put at ease, which makes the photos look much more natural. He would politely lend guidance if he thought a particular pose or angle would make for a great shot. We knew we wanted to take photos on top of the mountain and love how they turned out but some of our favorite shots were from areas that Joel had scoped out on his own.

We had guests traveling to Vail from all across the U.S., which meant the world to us. In the planning process, we focused a lot on function, flow, and comfortability. We are happy when our friends/family are happy, so we wanted to make sure everything was easy, convenient, comfortable, and fun!

Alternative Antelope Canyon Elopement

February 3, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Impeccable style? Check. Stunning location? Check. Gorgeous couple that is so deeply in love? Check! Brooke and Barry’s Antelope Canyon elopement is everything we love about intimate elopements and more. Amy Bluestar Photography took a wild adventure with the couple into two of Arizona’s most picturesque locations and captured some spectacular photos. The couple’s effortless boho style – particularly the bride’s All Things Dulcinea two piece ensemble – looked beautiful against the bold desert and canyon colors. Their connection and excitement to marry each other is unmistakable and, for that reason, we think these elopement photos are ones you won’t soon forget!

The Couple:

Brooke and Barry

The Wedding:

Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend, Arizona

The most important aspect of our wedding was that it was intimate and adventurous. Sometimes with large weddings, you can lose the importance of why you are there, which is to declare your unending love for each other and dedicate the rest of your lives together. We didn’t want the stress of planning a large wedding, so we opted for a small elopement and it was perfect.

We both love the outdoors and adventure so what better place to get married than Antelope Canyon. We wanted it to have a very simple boho feel. Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend are such unique and stunning places, we didn’t want there to be too much going on. We stuck to simple, feminine, earthy accessories and attire.

The best part of the day was after saying “I do,” and leaving hand in hand with my husband looking at him and knowing I had just made the best decision of my life. I’ll never forget how the world looked so different after our first married kiss.

My favorite picture has got to be the one at Horseshoe Bend with my husband fixing my hair. I love it because it was totally candid and shows a lot about our marriage. We truly are best friends in love doing life together.

We didn’t do gifts to each other. Instead we got matching tattoos. I got a small queen crown on the side of my wrist, and Barry got a king crown on the inside of his fore-arm. We got them right after we got married. It was such a fun experience to do together, and it’s something we will both have for the rest of our lives.

Our photographer Amy was AMAZING! She was down to adventure and spend all day with us. She was so laid back and kind – it was so easy working with her. Her style is unlike anything we had ever seen and our pictures turned out better than we ever could have imagined. She truly is one of a kind.

Jewel Tone Ontario Wedding at Lake of the Woods

February 3, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

sugarandsoulphotography.com

Ever since she was a little girl, Cassidy knew she wanted to say “I do” on the dock of her family’s cottage located in the Lake of the Woods community. So, when Nick proposed and they began to plan their wedding, there was really no other option. The couple’s main goals were to create an amazing weekend for all of the guests who traveled to be with them and to incorporate their beloved dog into the day. We love how they let the lake and natural environment be the focus of the ceremony space and carried the natural, elegant feel into the reception with an abundance of greenery in the table runners and hanging arrangements. The bride wore a gorgeous champagne colored Vera Wang gown that was both non-traditional and romantic, and looked beautiful against the waterfront landscape. The talented Sugar + Soul Photography worked her magic to capture all the portrait-worthy moments, personal details, and laid-back quirkiness this wedding had to offer.

The Wedding:

Private Residence, Lake of the Woods, Ontario, Canada

I went into shopping knowing that I wanted something different and was open to trying on anything. I just wanted the dress to feel bridal, and I knew I wanted to wear a long veil. I chose the second dress I tried on. The tones of the dress where so dramatic and different; I knew I would never be happy with a white dress. I loved the low front and back that flowed into the most gorgeous full shirt. I was always going to go barefoot (who wears shoes at the lake?) and this dress added the perfect amount of femininity.

To this day, the Green Camp remains an important part of summer life for us. We make the trek from Vancouver every summer to spend as much time as possible at the lake. It was with this in mind that we wanted to share this experience with our guests.

We had so many guest traveling to the wedding that had never been to the lake before that we wanted to make sure that they got to experience the lake while getting to see us get married! Because of that, we planned a full weekend of events with a laid back Fish Fry/Shore Lunch meal on the Friday and a lunch on the Sunday. We are a pretty easygoing couple and we wanted the wedding to reflect that. We didn’t want the wedding to feel forced or too complicated.

Nicholas and I really wanted our ceremony to be about us coming together as partners. We had been together for over ten years, and this day was also for our family and friends who have supported us. My cousin’s husband officiated the wedding. We are both very close with him, and it made the ceremony fun and relaxed. We also had the wedding party stand as couples instead of girls on one side, boys on the other. It was so nice to have our support team from both sides surrounding us as we said our wedding vows.

When picking the bridal party outfits, we wanted something subtle but beautiful. I am also a big fan of green, which the dresses where and the groomsmen had a slight green tone in their grey suits. The bridesmaid’s dresses were chosen since the brand had the nicest shade of green with the largest selection of options so that everyone could wear something they felt comfortable in.

There once was a very young girl who stood on the newly constructed deck at her parents’ cottage and proclaimed that this is where she is going to get married. Twenty-five years later…that dream came true.
