Welcome to the beginning of spring Bridal Market week on What Junebug Loves! We’ll be reporting on the new wedding dress collections that just debuted in NYC – it’s going to be an exciting week of gorgeous gowns, new trends in bridal fashion, and designers we adore. Today the festivities begin with one of my very favorites, Oscar de la Renta. When I think of Mr. de la Renta’s wedding dresses, I think of lady-like confections with intricate embellishment, dimensional texture, and an eternally sophisticated feel. His designs make me want to reach out and touch every handcut flower, delicate piece of lace, and carefully folded ruffle.
Last week’s Oscar de la Renta show was even more exciting than ever because Oscar PR Girl “live-pinned” images to their Pinterest feed as fast as their photographers could take the photos. They snapped as the models were prepped backstage as well as during the actual show, so it was like having a backstage pass and a front-row seat to one of the hottest bridal tickets in town!

I’m completely transfixed by this ornate and regal headpiece that brings to mind a Spanish princess!

Oscar does little girls’ dresses just as beautifully as the big girls’!

I love the couture surprises that Oscar mixed into the collection. His crimson red wedding gown, cloud-like tulle cape, medieval-inspired frock and colorful floral dress are surprising and a little avant-guard, yet they still have that Oscar classic touch.

And this is what I mean when I say texture and detail! Mr. de la Renta uses the most intricate laces and fabrics; yet the balance is where his genius lies. Just look at those feathers, puffs, ruffles…

I loved the glimpses of what went on backstage! How fun to see all that goes into putting on a show of this caliber, and the handsome designer himself, putting finishing touches on each piece and giving final approval.

And finally, one bandwagon I WILL be jumping on! All of the girls were flaunting Oscar’s new “Larimar Blue” nail lacquer that will be available in October. The perfect “something blue” for the fashion forward bride.
