Wildflowers, Aspens, and Creek Views Made This Mountain Wedding a Garden Party to Remember

A creek running through the property, towering aspens overhead, and colorful florals inspired by summer wildflowers set the scene for Jordan and Kevin’s celebration at Blackstone Rivers Ranch.

After moving to Colorado together in 2022, they quickly realized they wanted to get married there too. They envisioned a colorful, relaxed wedding that would also double as a fun weekend away for the friends and family traveling in to celebrate with them.

Their story, however, started in a much less expected setting: a hot dog stand outside Oklahoma State University. After a night out, both of their friend groups struck up a conversation while waiting in one of the famously long lines for late-night food and, as Jordan put it, “the rest is history.”

What We Love About This Mountain Wedding

  • Bright wildflower-inspired florals that popped against the mountain backdrop
  • A pizza truck reception menu that perfectly matched their personalities
  • A full wedding weekend experience for out-of-town guests
  • Meaningful family heirlooms incorporated throughout the day
  • Glow wands, heart-shaped glasses, and a light-up dance floor that brought extra energy to the reception
  • Their “post-game interview” idea to remember all the little details after the celebration

When You Want Mountain Views Without Making Travel Complicated

After getting engaged, Jordan and Kevin knew they wanted to get married in the Colorado mountains. At the same time, they wanted to make sure guests could easily attend. “We started looking for mountain venues close enough to Denver to make travel easy on our guests.”

That balance eventually led them to Blackstone Rivers Ranch, a venue that offered all the scenery they dreamed about while still being accessible for friends and family flying in from out of town. The moment they arrived, the decision felt easy. “As soon as we stepped onto the Blackstone Rivers Ranch property we just knew this was it. It’s so stunningly, naturally beautiful. The huge trees, aspens, creek and cliffsides are breathtaking.”

Beyond the views, they loved imagining their guests enjoying every corner of the property, from the fire pit to the outdoor seating areas nestled throughout. “We knew our guests would enjoy the fire pit, creek and outdoor seating areas throughout the venue as well. The venue just felt like all the best parts of Colorado bundled up!”

A Creekside Ceremony Full of Unexpected Tears

One of the most memorable moments came from someone they least expected. “The most memorable part of our ceremony was our minister crying while marrying us.” Afterward, he explained why. “I just love love!”

Jordan also remembers how peaceful the setting felt during their vows. “Hearing the creek flowing in the background of our ceremony was so peaceful.” It became one of those unexpected moments that helped everything else fade into the background for a minute. “I really felt like it centered us in that moment together.”

How Social Media Unexpectedly Helped Build Their Vendor Team

Jordan describes herself as someone who happily fell down the Pinterest, Instagram, and TikTok rabbit hole during planning. “After that I stalked Pinterest boards, Instagram and TikTok for ideas on how I wanted the wedding day to look and feel.”

Having a planner helped turn all those saved ideas into a cohesive celebration. “Having a planner really helped nail down the details of the day, and get a vendor team together that could help nail the vision and vibe we were going for.”

Some vendors came through their venue’s preferred list, while others arrived in more unexpected ways. They had already discovered Junebug vendor Katie Fletcher before getting engaged and even won a free engagement session through one of her giveaways. “We enjoyed working with Katie and knew we wanted her as our wedding photographer.”

Katie later connected them with their videographer, while Jordan found their invitation designer Brea from The Lettery Co. on Etsy, only to discover she was a local Colorado artist too.

One of Jordan’s favorite finds came thanks to TikTok. “I found Gingerly Baked after looking at TikToks of my wedding venue, and they had a post with crème brûlée at our venue, which was something Kevin really wanted since it’s his favorite dessert. Gingerly Baked was such a good find!”

Bringing Family History Into the Details

Although Jordan says she’s “not creative at all” and skipped DIY projects altogether, they still found meaningful ways to personalize the day. Her parents gifted her a Tiffany pearl bracelet, with each pearl representing a member of her immediate family.

She also carried pieces of family history with her throughout the day. A piece of her mother’s dress was wrapped around her bouquet and Kevin’s boutonniere. And perhaps most touching of all, her grandfather gifted her the same sixpence her grandmother wore on her own wedding day for good luck.

Using Bright Florals Without Competing With the View

“I was really inspired by images of wildflowers in the Colorado mountains during the summer, and we wanted our wedding to encapsulate that imagery and be a good time for our guests, so our theme was a Colorado Mountain Garden Party.”

The goal wasn’t to cover every inch of the venue with decor. “We wanted to have mountain vibes with beautiful bright flowers that also complimented the natural beauty of our venue, and we felt a day in the mountains full of color reflected the happiness and joy we felt getting to marry each other surrounded by our favorite people!”

They focused on flowers and let the landscape do what it already does best. “We wanted the florals to be the focal point of the day, and we didn’t want to distract from the overwhelming natural beauty of the venue – the cliffside, massive trees, aspens and creek really did all the heavy lifting!”

Deciding Early What Was Actually Worth Spending On

Jordan and Kevin knew exactly what mattered most to them. “Our priorities were good food, a beautiful mountain venue, florals and guest satisfaction!” Everything else flowed from there.

“We wanted our guests to have a good event to attend, so we made sure they were fed with good food and drinks, and we even provided transportation via party bus to and from the venue/hotel.”

Their caterer was a huge hit, but one of the most personality-filled decisions was choosing a pizza truck for the reception. “Kevin and I are pretty casual people, so we felt the food being a pizza truck reflected our personalities really well.

A Tradition They’re Starting for Themselves

Once the formalities were over, the reception turned into a full-on celebration. “Definitely the light up dance floor, glow wands and heart shaped glasses!” For Jordan and Kevin, simply being surrounded by their people was the best part. “Celebrating with our friends and family was the best!”

The morning came with some surprises too. Jordan was much more nervous than she anticipated, but having her mom nearby and a great vendor team helped tremendously. “My Sister in Law is an RN and she hooked me up with an IV the morning of!”

When they returned to the hotel, they sat down together and filmed what they call a “post-game interview.” “Kevin and I spent time together recapping the day, and we filmed it. We plan to watch this video for the first time on our 1 year anniversary.” They wanted to capture all the little details while they were still fresh. “I think it will be so cool to see us recap the day with all the details so fresh. And it’s something we’ll hopefully enjoy having for years to come!”

It’s such a simple idea, but also one that’s easy to imagine becoming part of their relationship for years to come. Rather than relying on memory alone, Jordan and Kevin created a way to revisit the day exactly as they experienced it, while all the little details were still fresh.
