As the bride puts it, it was “a formal affair against a rustic backdrop.” Jon and Chrissy’s elegant wedding at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens in Charleston, South Carolina exemplified the perfect Southern wedding. Fields of live oak trees draped in Spanish moss offered a romantic setting for the couple to exchange vows. We love how the couple incorporated a string quartet, mac & cheese bar, and s’more station into their fun wedding. We know photographer Paige Jones must of had a blast shooting this gorgeous Southern wedding in South Carolina!
Jon and Chrissy
Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, Charleston, South Carolina
Our wedding day was inspired by the simplistic beauty of the lowcountry and our love of all things Southern. This influenced everything from our choice of venue (a plantation filled with live oaks draped in Spanish moss) to our food selections (buttermilk fried chicken, BBQ pulled pork, mac & cheese bar) to the musicians we chose for the ceremony and reception (a three-piece string band). I also loved the idea of a formal affair against a rustic backdrop. Since our venue offered an abundance of rustic elements, I focused on pulling together details to add a formal flair. The details included dramatic draping highlighting wagon wheel chandeliers, rows of long tables lined with tall baby’s breath displays, mirror table runners, gold mercury glass, lots of candlelight, and varied floral arrangements. The touches of calligraphy, handlettering and swirly type throughout the details added an intimate, romantic feel. The result is what I would call Southern classic glam.
Our favorite moment from the wedding was having nearly all of our guests pack the dance floor to dance to ‘Stand By Me’. As Jon and I danced, we couldn’t stop looking around at all of our favorite people surrounding us, and we just kept saying how incredibly cool it felt.
The Couple Recommends:
Stephanie Wellings-Kresch of A Southern Ceremony did a fabulous job executing our wedding day. In the months leading up to our wedding, she spent countless hours on the phone with me listening to my vision and offering advice (and words of encouragement!). She kept me calm as things started to get crazy and I had full confidence in her throughout our wedding weekend. I received many compliments on her work after the wedding from family members and the wedding party. She was incredible. I also really loved working with Janie McGuire of Charleston Cakes Etc. Although the cake design I had in mind was simple, she nailed it and it was delicious! Working with her was a breeze. She was so sweet and accommodating, even when our final head count was higher than I had expected and we needed to increase our order. She made everything very easy.
