Colorful Vintage-Inspired Barn Wedding

Megan-and-Marcus-Jana-Marie (11 of 20)

Before summer wraps up for good, we’re excited to share another brightly colored wedding with you. Megan and Marcus planned a vintage-inspired barn wedding at Historic Taylor Barn and didn’t miss a single detail. The bride’s bohemian floral crown was elegantly draped in orange, pink, and ivory ribbon, which made for one gorgeous hair accessory. I love the consistency of the vintage fabric used throughout their day, from the streamer backdrop during their ceremony to the quirky napkins and place settings at the outdoor reception. The sky must have been jealous of all the color, because a rainbow made an appearance while photographer Jana Marie captured portraits of the newlyweds.

The Inspiration:We knew we would be relocating shortly after we got married, so it was important to us to make our wedding authentic and inspired by where we both grew up. Important touches from home were incorporated into every detail. The stone for the barn was cut from the hills outside Lawrence, KS. Megan wore her great-grandmother’s necklace. Nuns from the church where Megan‘s family volunteers donated the ribbon for our backdrop. The windmill blade is such a classic symbol of the Midwest we were really excited to incorporate.

The napkins were cut by hand by Marcus‘s mother, who also made the wedding cake! Megan‘s grandmother stitched the table numbers. Megan walked to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. We found our florist at the farmers market. Our photographer is a college friend of Megan‘s. The music was played by family friends. Dinner came from our favorite BBQ joint in KC (which happens to be in a gas station). The beer was local, including some that Marcus and one of his groomsmen made themselves. There were just so many intricate details that literally everywhere we looked we saw something that was important to us, reminded us of home and family, and just filled the whole environment with love and happiness. The whole celebration was meant to reflect each of us as individuals, our families, and our union.”

The Moment:Both of us remember how amazing it felt when the brief thunderstorm let up after it looked like things were going to get even worse and gave way to a huge beautiful rainbow and sunny skies. It was only fitting since Megan walked to Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
