Real Weddings- Suzanne and Brent

February 1, 2008 | editorial team

Today’s Real Wedding is as sweet as can be. It was a cozy and charming summertime celebration, photographed by Cheri Pearl Photography and filled to the brim with personal touches. Suzanne and Brent wanted a small wedding, so they chose to include only their closest friends and family for their sunny garden ceremony at Parson’s Gardens and their waterfront reception at the classic Seattle restaurant, Palisade.

To make it their own, Suzanne and Brent were super creative in involving their loved ones and incorporated some of their favorite things. Their officiant was a good friend, each guest at the small ceremony signed their marriage certificate, the best man supplied their get-away car (a brown 1965 Triumph convertible- cool!), the invitations were a DIY project, and instead of a traditional wedding cake, they chose their favorite dessert, a coconut cream pie from the Dahlia Bakery.

Not wanting a traditional wedding, they also opted for alternative wedding fashion. Brent bought a rich chocolate brown suit from Nordstrom, and paired it with a brown, bronze and periwinkle striped tie. Suzanne found a stunning bronze silk dress with delicate periwinkle lace trim and inserts at Mario’s. Their style fit perfectly with their overall color palette, and they couldn’t have looked more glowing and in love! Get the full scoop on all of the professionals they worked with in our Real Weddings section.

Alternative wedding dresses can be a fabulous way to add your own style to your wedding, or to make your event a non-traditional affair. I love the rich colors and beautiful detailing of these long evening dresses for an dramatic night time wedding.

Canlis Restaurant’s Romantic Valentine’s Day Treat for the Troops

January 30, 2008 | editorial team

Canlis Restaurant is legendary in Seattle, and has a reputation for excellence the world over. It is still run by the warm and welcoming Canlis family after nearly 60 years, and is an absolute treat to experience! I’ve been lucky enough to attend a few events at Canlis (including photographing a chic wedding in their Penthouse– fab!) and have loved every minute of my time there. Today I love Canlis even more after learning about their special Valentine’s Day mission. They are partnering with the American Legion to auction off a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner in their amazing tree-top private room, the Cache, and using the money to fly a local area soldier home to their spouse for a well deserved Valentine’s Day dinner of their own. Wow! How great is that? Bidding starts at $2000 and is open until February 11th. Call 206-283-3313 or visit www.Canlis.com. Looks like love is in the Seattle air. Thanks Canlis!

Wedding Cake, Wedding Cake, Wedding Cake!

January 28, 2008 | editorial team

Today’s post is all about one of my very favorite things…cake! It’s delicious, it’s beautiful, it warms your heart with just one bite, and it’s all I can think about, because today, well, it’s my birthday! Hooray! To celebrate, I will be staring endlessly at these stunning wedding cake creations and daydreaming about the glorious weddings that could be designed around each and every one. (And probably also about the yummy cupcakes I ate on Saturday, and which flavor of cake I will order tonight after dinner. Yum!) Enjoy this fabulous wedding cake inspiration, and have a fantastic January 28th!
