Real Weddings- Mary and Gregoire

April 11, 2008 | editorial team

Today’s Real Wedding comes courtesy of our dear friends Scott and Jennifer over at Red Fish Blue Fish Photography. As two of the most fun people I know, they always seem to attract creative, whimsical, fun-loving clients, and this couple is no different!

From beginning to end, Mary and Gregoire’s wedding was all about combining their cultures, families and traditions. The two weeks leading up to the wedding were an ongoing celebration as all of Gregoire’s friends and relatives arrived from France, and there were picnics, BBQs and parties galore, including the highlight of them all, a rehearsal dinner baseball game! The first annual “Franco-American Classic” was held the night before the wedding, complete with silk screened uniforms designed by Mary’s mother, and all the baseball essentials: hotdogs, beer, peanuts and cracker jacks. What a  fantastic idea!

The wedding itself carried on the fun as well as the incorporation of traditions they loved. They started in the late afternoon with large jars of lemonade and salted butter cookies that Grégoires mother brought with her from Quiberon, France, and gave the guests time to enjoy the gorgeous private Northwest gardens where the wedding was taking place. During the ceremony Mary’s brother Alistair acted as the officiant, Gregoire’s Aunt and Uncle sang a traditional song and Mary’s sister-in-law read a poem on friendship. As the happy couple walked back up the aisle as husband and wife their guests showered them in confetti of dried French lavender.

Their lovely color palette of celery green, coral, ivory, chocolate brown and touches of lavender gave a warm and joyous feel to the reception decor which included a tent decorated with strings of lights and tissue paper flowers, 100 different antique dinner plates with various flower designs, and tables filled with Walla Walla wine and platters of food for a big family style feast.

Mary wore a white Siri bridesmaid’s dress from Cicada Bridal (great idea!) and two different feather hairpieces that she purchased while traveling through the South of France, one of which she fashioned into a birdcage veil. Her bridesmaids wore custom made skirts from Trish Jens and various crisp white button-down shirts from Anthropologie, and Gregoire and his groomsmen wore matching suits from Banana Republic. So lovely!
