Timeless Rose and Ivory Nigerian Wedding Style in Mdina, Malta – Viva and Chike

The Couple: Viva and Chike

The Wedding: 10.10.10 – The Villa Brasserie, Mdina, Malta

What three adjectives best describe your wedding? Classic, soft, romantic.

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? My personal style is a mixture of my cultural background (Nigerian) as well as my world travels. I have lived in NYC and London for some time and am influenced by both very differing street styles. When it came to my wedding though, I knew I wanted something timeless and classic. I wanted to look back at photos like you do classic old movies and remember the timeless beauty and flow of the day.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? Having a destination wedding, although tougher to plan, was definitely worth it. Being able to spend several days with good friends and family made the whole experience so much more memorable. To me a wedding day is about strengthening not just the bond between you and your love but also between your friends and family as you all come together to celebrate real love. My favorite memory of the day was right after the ceremony we just went off on our own with the photographer and explored the ancient streets of Mdina. The light was soft and the walls were golden and it was just so romantic to spend time together soaking in the moment.

Wedding color palette: Ivory, lavender and rose.

Today’s destination real wedding of Kristin and Sean takes us across the waters of the Caribbean to Jamaica! With a laid-back atmosphere all around and a lovely hint of formality in the event’s design, this sun-drenched wedding weekend was the perfect get-away. Enjoy these beautiful images from photographer Sean Flanigan!

The Goals: Kristin and Sean wanted a wedding that was intimate and personal, and they were thrilled with their decision to have a small destination wedding. “It was our best decision. We were able to share one of our favorite places in the world with our family and friends and were able to spend lots of time with everyone over the 3 days of festivities.”

The Design: Because their Negril, Jamaica resort Tensing Pen was so naturally beautiful Kristin and Sean didn’t feel like they needed to introduce a lot of other colors or decor into the mix. They stayed with an all-white color palette for their flowers and reception design, using lots of white candles in their table settings. Their invitations and table numbers were simple and clean – a white square with black print and a small pink heart for a pop of color.  “Our wedding was casual and relaxed and we wanted our invitations to convey that feeling.” At each place setting they gave guests wedding favors of scratch-off lottery tickets inside a custom envelope with a lucky penny. The wedding cake was also a simple but lovely white-on-white design, topped with cute cake toppers from The Pretty Pixie on Etsy.com.

The Look: Kristin originally planned to find a very simple dress without any embellishments that would fit the tropical vibe of their celebration, but once she tried her Reem Acra dress at Kleinfeld Bridal in New York, she knew immediately it was the one! It had a lightly vintage feel to it with a grosgrain ribbon and rhinestone belt, and she accessorized it with rhinestone earrings, a vintage bracelet and hair flowers from Untamed Petals. The women in the wedding party (all of Kristin and Sean’s sisters) wore navy blue dresses from JCrew, and the groom and darling little best man both wore ties from Vineyard Vines.

The Moments: Kristin and Sean’s boutique resort Tensing Pen only sleeps 43 people so the whole resort was filled with their loved ones. “It was a really unique experience to have all of our closest friends and family in such a beautiful vacation setting, and to be able to top it all off with our wedding celebration was amazing!” Because it was such a once-in-a-lifetime event, they knew that capturing the trip in images would be all-important. “We really wanted to document it for ourselves and for those that couldn’t be there to celebrate with us. We are really happy that we chose to have such great photographers shoot the wedding as well as a fantastic videographer.  It is really fun to relive the weekend through the photos and video!”
