The Couple: Maya and Josh

The Wedding: 8.25.10 Glenview Mansion, Rockville, MD

What three adjectives best describe your wedding? Warm, romantic, whimsical

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how were your personalities incorporated into your big day?
I love the store Anthropologie, and wanted to convey a similar garden charm and whimsical atmosphere with a warm and inviting reception tent. One of my most favorite pieces of decor was a simple chandelier hanging from an old tree blowing in the wind. Below it lay two shutters with the placards tucked inside. Mason jars lined both the ceremony aisles as well as the walkways throughout the property, filled with candle votives at night. I also wanted to incorporate a lounge area for guests to sneak away from the dance floor. In the lounge, separated by white shear linens, were low tables and chairs, as well as the main bar and our candy bar (filled with blue and green goodies!). Also, in the lounge was our amazing photo-booth, which everyone loved!

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions, or memories that you love the most about your wedding? Oh my goodness, how do I choose? One aspect that I knew I must incorporate was a jazz theme. My father, a lover of jazz as well as a musician, inspired us to have a jazzy ceremony, which was wonderful. I will never forget him walking me down the aisle to a saxophone version of “Here Comes the Bride.” He was so happy, and it fit perfectly into our warm and romantic garden setting. Our “first look” is something Josh and I will never forget, everything was simply perfect. Along with that, it was such a special moment when Josh and I had a peak at the tent before any of our guests. I remember him saying, “Wow, this is for us!” He couldn’t believe it. Jamie Sears of A Simply Chic Event, Jayne Haven, of Occasions Caterers, and Anne and Bill Holland of Holland Photo Arts were magical. Many of these moments wouldnt have been possible without them. The photo-booth was a decision that we knew we had to have, and are so thrilled we did! One of Josh’s oldest friends, Dan Nakamura, owns Booth-o-Rama, so that made it even more special to have him there. Lastly, one fun moment came near the end when all of a sudden, mini ice cream cones were passed around the dance floor to each guest. What a way to end a fabulous evening!

Color palette: Sage green and pale blue with hints of gold and pops of yellow!

Las Vegas Wedding Fashion Photo Shoot to Benefit Thirst Relief International

March 28, 2011 | editorial team

Thirst Relief International

The wedding community, being made up of so many creative artists and small business owners, is a generous and innovative bunch when it comes to giving back, and the organization Thirst Relief International is a great example of this. Founded by photographer Jim Davis Hicks, Thirst Relief works to provide safe, clean drinking water for those in need around the world, and wedding photographers are currently their biggest group of donors. They travel to countries to document the work being done, they donate their time and money, and they participate in events like the one we’re showcasing today.

The Thirst Relief WPPI Benefit Shoot was an event photographers bid on during the Thirst Relief Mentor Auction annual fundraiser. The idea was to hold an educational event where photographers could get instruction from educators within the industry, while at the same time shooting some fun wedding style images and meeting one another. The shoot took place in Las Vegas during WPPI (the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International convention) and Junebug was excited to get involved and help the cause by publishing some of the final images.

So today we have some of the wedding fashion photos captured by the instructors and the participants – it’s so interesting to see the various ways that different photographers captured each model and moment!
