Fashion Shoot to Benefit Thirst Relief International

March 22, 2012 | editorial team

Thirst Relief International

Today we are celebrating World Water Day with an incredible project that was born from the generous, giving spirit of someone in our own wedding community; photographer Jim Davis Hicks. He founded Thirst Relief International to tackle the crucial international shortage of clean, plentiful drinking water. Thirst Relief is able to do big things with even small donations, so everyone can help make a difference in someone else’s life. Five dollars provides someone with clean water for 25 years!

One of Thirst Relief’s projects is an annual benefit shoot that takes place every year at Wedding & Portrait Photographers International, WPPI. Before the event, wedding photographers bid on the chance to learn from and shoot alongside some of the world’s best talent, and 100% of the proceeds go directly to Thirst Relief water projects located around the world to help provide people with a long-term source of clean water.

This year’s shoot boasted an incredible line-up of instructors: Mike Colon, David and Luke Edmonson, Rocco Ancora, Roberto Valenzuela and CM Leung. The shoot took place at Ghost Town outside Las Vegas, and took on a Wild West-boudoir feel with the featured corsets by Glamtastik. Here are just of a few of our favorite shots from the day…

“It was a true honor and privilege to be involved in the Thirst Relief Charity shoot. It has been, without doubt, the most rewarding thing I have ever been involved in. The money that we raised will give 2000 people fresh drinking water for the next 25 years.–Rocco Ancora

I was attracted to the event because the images from previous years are exceptional and the instructors I would have an opportunity to shoot and learn and hangout with are all amazing. We travelled to Ghost Town outside Vegas, which has the most random of random stuff lying around and is such an amazing location for photography.–Donal Doherty

All proceeds will go to building four wells in India. You also can make a fast and easy donation right on the Thirst Relief website. Remember that $5? Imagine skipping your morning latte tomorrow, but having it matter for 25 years. Pretty awesome!

Today’s super sparkly wedding comes to us from the very talented STAK Photography Duo and is a veritable feast of bling! Barbara and Aash planned a sophisticated wedding and reception, and used the venue’s name–The Crystal Plaza–as inspiration for decor that literally dripped with twinkling crystals, accented by an elegant color palette.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? Getting to the wedding day was not easy; we planned made, and organized the event ourselves! Lucky for us, each person on our wedding team was amazing and gave us more then we could imagine.

After the ceremony we had High Tea for our guests at a place in Montclair called Tosca, which everyone raved about. We wanted to give our guests a break in between the ceremony and reception. Tosca closed down just for us, and catered every guest as if they were family. As for the reception, even though it takes months to plan, the night definitely goes by way too fast! But what we loved most was having all of our family and friends together, drink, eat, and have fun!

Elva Fields Spring 2012 Vintage Necklace Collection

March 20, 2012 | editorial team

white vintage bridal necklace from Elva Fields

I’m a long-time fan of creative jewelry designer Emily Wheat Maynard of Elva Fields, so seeing the color palettes and natural materials she’s been working with in her new spring 2012 collection has me giddy all over again! From textured white stones paired with vintage rhinestone brooches, to greens, pinks, corals and vibrant oranges, any of these one-of-a-kind pieces could add tons of fashion personality to a wedding day look. If you’re into this sweetly multi-layered style, remember that her pieces go fast, so check back with her website often. And for ideas on how you could have a custom bridal necklace created just for you, check out the fun collaborations that Emily has been doing with women she admires, in her Leading Lady Collection – our pal Vané from Brooklyn Bride was featured just this week!
