Ever since visiting Africa a few years back and getting to see the incredible natural beauty of Zambia and Botswana I’ve had a huge soft spot for anything related to Safaris! East Coast wedding photographer Kay English Photography recently joined forces with MDS Floral Design, dress designer Sarah Seven and a whole team of other creative wedding professionals for this Safari inspired wedding photo shoot at The Ashford Estate, and I love all the little details and colors ideas that could bring a little bit of the African wilderness to a glamorous wedding day!
Kim and John’s Tuscany wedding was truly amazing. As if getting married in a gorgeous Italian countryside villa, and having gorgeous photos by Rochelle Cheever amidst pretty Italian cobble streets weren’t enough, John – a professional chef – insisted on cooking their elaborate wedding dinner for their guests himself! What a treat!
What three adjectives best describe your wedding?Loving, warm, and joyful
What was your wedding color palette?Navy blue and neutrals (burlap, whites and cream)
What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? This was all about our family and being with our family. It truly was a family affair. My mom sewed the table runners, my friend handmade the cake topper and my husband and his Italian family were all in the kitchen preparing and cooking the meal we ate at our wedding. This was not only the trip of a lifetime for everyone involved, but it brought our family even closer together. It was all about the family that made the trip out to Italy to be with us!
Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? The morning of the wedding we were sitting in the dining room eating breakfast and watching the rain pour down outside. While I love the rain, its not always ideal when your plans are for an outdoor wedding ceremony and reception. I was completely at ease with the idea that we might have to make changes at the last minute, and I knew my family would be on board to help. As luck would have it, before our photographer arrived the skies cleared, the sun came out and we had a beautiful outdoor ceremony. We did decide to have the reception indoors because it was too chilly outside, which kept our family warm and cozy.
What piece of advice would you give to a bride planning her wedding today?Hire a wedding planner, hire a caterer – you dont want to work on your wedding day! Im a wedding planner at a venue in California and my husband is a chef, so we were ready to tackle the day ourselves; however, it would have been nice to have someone work for us on our special day. At the same time, we cant complain… we enjoy being able to say we planned our own wedding from start to finish!
