Washington Wedding Getaways at Get Hitched Give Hope!

This Thursday night, November 8th, is the annual Get Hitched Give Hope charitable gala event in Seattle (woo-hoo!) and as Presenting Sponsors we’ve partnered up with some fantastic local hotels and resorts to create donations of romantic Washington getaways that will be available during the auction. The first of our two awesome getaways is all about the San Juan Islands. You’ll start with two nights at Lakedale Resort at Three Lakes, followed by two nights at Friday Harbor House.

Lakedale Resort is one of a kind – sitting on 82-acres, with three spring water lakes, it lets you take advantage of everything that’s special about this region. You can even go “glamping” from May through September! It’s an ideal San Juan Island spot.

Friday Harbor House sits atop a bluff overlooking the scenic harbor and gives you perfect access to both the island’s beautiful natural scenery and the activities of Friday Harbor. Check out the charming art galleries, antique shops, bookstores, and boutiques in town one day, and do some whale watching, hiking or kayaking the next!

Our other Washington getaway is a one-night stay in a Lakefront Guest Room at The Woodmark Hotel with a $100 dining credit to the binn on the lake or The Beach Cafe. Yum! I’ve stayed at The Woodmark and have eaten at both restaurants, so I can personally vouch for what an awesome experience this will be! (This package is not available on holidays or in August.)

Joyous, Colorful Hindu Wedding Celebration – Kaitlin and Vaibhav

What a way to start the week! Kaitlin and Vaibhav’s gorgeous Hindu wedding was a breathtaking celebration! I love their photos by Cathy and David Photographers. There is just so much joy, color, and light in these images that they make feel so happy, even on a Monday morning!

What three adjectives best describe your wedding day? Warm, vibrant, and blessed

Was there a decor theme that ran through your wedding? What was the inspiration for that particular idea and how did it reflect you as a couple? Our goal was to have a traditional wedding that honored both of our families and heritages, so we kept it simple. We chose a beautiful venue and worked with a great design studio to highlight the garden where we had our Hindu ceremony. We carried the bright colors of the garden into the reception arrangements and used highlights of gold.

What were some of the different ways you used decor elements to create the beautiful, cohesive event you were envisioning? We wanted a traditional garden feel with an Indian twist. I chose to wear Indian style clothing for the Hindu ceremony and to my surprise, my family followed suit (and had great fun doing it). Overall, we used gold and pink/red to keep with traditional Hindu wedding colors.

Where did you choose to hold your wedding, and how did the location influence your decor decisions? We chose an amazing old mansion with a beautiful garden. The venue had a lot of character – from the blooming flowers in the garden to the marble hall where the reception was held. We tried to set off the venue by choosing bright flowers and antique-style accents.

Looking back, do you have a favorite project or successful decor idea from your wedding? Tell us what you loved about it! We needed customized programs for our Hindu ceremony so I made them myself. The finished product was a Zine — one page on which I formatted doodles and explanations of the ceremony parts. I then folded the page into a mini-booklet. It was useful, cute and environmentally friendly too.

Elegant Music-Themed Los Angeles Wedding at Vibiana – Callaway Gable Photography

Tina and Jonathan’s stunning Los Angeles wedding at Vibiana was absolutely amazing! They used their combined love of music as a tasteful, classic design element that ran throughout the event to create a personal celebration that told their story in a beautiful way. Callaway Gable (we’re big fans here at Junebug) captured all of the details and sweet moments of the day.

The Goals: Our main priority during our wedding planning process was to make sure it was an easy and pleasant process. We both had hectic work schedules at the time – I commuted over 3 hrs a day to and from work so it was important that we had someone help us. Having a helpful, knowledgeable wedding planner was critical for us. We needed help translating our ideas into the dream wedding we wanted! Another priority for us was to have an amazing photographer that would help us capture every single detail for our wedding. Wedding pictures last beyond a lifetime, so we placed high importance on finding the right person/team to do that for us. And Callaway Gable was perfect!

The Vision: My husband Jon is a very talented violinist and actually majored in music in college. Music, piano specifically, was also a huge part of my life growing up. Because both families have a deep love for music, we wanted to incorporate it into our wedding as a design element. We incorporated a music stand for our guests to sign. Our sign-in book was a leather-bound musical notes journal. Family members helped put together the DIY musical note flowers that were placed on the reception tables. The guest escort cards also were music themed and were hanging off of golden vintage gate doors.

The Look: Originally, I was planning to rent a wedding gown from a boutique in downtown Los Angeles but stumbled across the beautiful Paloma Blanca dress during my visit home to Portland for Thanksgiving. I couldnt pass the dress up. I did make a couple tweaks to the dress to make it more my style. I removed layers of tulle underneath the dress to make it less ballgown-like, added a sweetheart neckline and crystal sash. For the reception, I found the amazing Adrianna Papell dress on Nordstrom’s website. The look of the dress was perfect for our reception vision.

Jon wore a BOSS Black suit, which was very special because it was a gift from my mom. My husband loves this suit because its the first suit that fits him to a tee. The bridesmaids wore a purple (my favorite color!) Donna Morgan dress from Nordstrom.

The Moments: My favorite part of our wedding day was actually the moment that Jon and I had our first look. I was not expecting him to be emotional or cry but it was a very intimate and special moment that we shared together, before the wedding ceremony. The best part was that our wonderful wedding photographers were able to capture that moment so now we have it forever.

Our biggest wedding planning success was hiring Katie Lee from Bella Destinee. Seriously, we would not have been able to pull off our wedding without her. She was our lifesaver.
