Garden Wedding at Inn at Windmill Lane, Amagansett, NY – Kim and Tenny

July 18, 2013 | editorial team

Everyone loves an elegant garden wedding and we can’t wait for you to see the amazing details photographed by Jonathan Young Weddings at Kimberly and Tenny’s Amagansett, New York nuptials. Under a beautiful tent dripping with chandeliers and a dreamy pink and blue color palette, this Hamptons inspired affair provided the perfect balance of a relaxed yet polished event.

The Goals: We wanted our friends and family to have fun with casual elegance, amazing music and great ambiance.

The Design: We wanted it to fit the vibe of the Inn at Windmill Lane and Amagansett with garden elegance. We wanted a garden ceremony with cocktails and the reception in the same location. The rustic blue calligraphy by Debi Zeinert of the Blooming Quill and Bella Figura reflected the style of the wedding. We wanted our guests to be showered with delicious food and drinks and surrounded by flowers, great music and love.

We started with lemonade in mason jars to greet the guests when they arrived on the shuttles for some social time. The flowers for the garden ceremony were vibrant with pinks and peaches – since the beautiful garden at the Inn at Windmill Lane is mostly green in the springtime. The chuppa, designed by Claire Bean Floral and Event Design, was filled with cherry blossoms and brought beautiful color to the ceremony in addition to the potted hydrangeas lining the aisle. The bridesmaid dresses and bouquets mixed it up with pinks, peaches and whites.

For cocktail hour, we continued the garden vibe with pear green and white striped cocktail tablecloths and terracotta pots with pinks and orange flowers. The escort cards sat in rows on a farm table mixed with green and white flowers and iron lanterns. Under the tent, we transitioned away from color to white and green flowers to create more of an elegant garden feel. Claire Bean Floral and Event Design placed these flowers and candles in various styles and colors of votives and vases. For the tables, we wanted an eclectic look mixing long rustic farm tables with ratan runners, with round tables with ratan tablecloths. We placed gold chargers on the table with our dinner menu on top, calligraphied with the same rustic blue from Bella Figura. The Hamptons themed table names were calligraphed by Gretchen Pittman, a calligrapher in my hometown of Greenwich, Connecticut. To continue the elegant garden feel, Matt Murphy Event Lighting stepped it up by hanging iron chandeliers throughout the tent, with one larger one in the middle over the dancefloor.

The Look: I found my dress designed by Anna Maier Ulla Maija at Gabriella New York Bridal Salon on the first day that my mom and I began our search. I loved the unique lace and color. It fit beautifully with a garden wedding. My parents got married in a garden with a tent so I always wanted to do the same. It was a couture dress and I went to the designers studio for a muslin fitting first, then a fitting a month later, and then the final fitting. I wore simple drop diamond earrings and my grandmothers diamond and pearl bracelet, and my hair twirled back with white flowers on one side. My bridesmaids wore long chiffon dresses by Amsale in various colors, in the style of their choice.

The Moments: Getting ready with my mom, best friends and family was very memorable. The ceremony and walk down the aisle was also quite memorable to me. Walking with my dad, seeing Tenny ahead and everyone we are closest to in one space with big smiles. Then walking into the tent, dancing with my dad and husband, Tenny dancing with his mom, and listening to the speeches all stand out to us. The hora was a funny memory seeing everyone looking up with huge grins…it was a bit scary but really funny. Our overall wedding planning success was watching all of the small details that we planned come together in one big event design, and hiring vendors who I loved and trusted would do an incredible job as the wedding weekend arrived.

What three adjectives best describe your wedding? Rustic, elegant, laid-back

What was your wedding color palette? The bridesmaids all wore different shades of grey dresses with light blue jewelry and brightly colored shoes in a warm shade. The groomsmen all wore grey suits with green and blue plaid ties.

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? I think our love of the outdoors played a huge part in our wedding style. We wanted to have a natural feel to the wedding design with nothing that felt too stuffy. Our planner, Felicia Events, incorporated a lot of natural elements into the ultimate design. My husband really wanted to make sure that the food was good (hes a chef!), so most of the menu design was left up to him. We both love wine, and spent a lot of time going to wineries in the region near our wedding venue. Two days prior to the wedding we took a wine tasting trip with most of the bridal party down to a couple of wineries and bought several cases of wine to drink at the wedding. The guests loved the wine, and really liked the fact that it was from little wineries they otherwise would have never known.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? I loved my entire wedding! It is a day that I will never forget and will always treasure. One of the things that made it so wonderful was that we decided to not sweat the small stuff and just focus on truly enjoying the day. A lot of our wedding felt spontaneous, but there were a couple of preplanned decisions we made that really helped make the wedding us.

I wanted to walk down the aisle with my soon to be husband. I felt that it was symbolic that we were both entering into the marriage. Our planner suggested I walk alone down part of the hill towards our ceremony site, and my husband was waiting at the bottom of the hill. Meeting him there was wonderful. We held hands all the way walking up the aisle!

We didnt really want to write our own vows, but we decided right before the ceremony that we each wanted to say a few words prior. Neither one of us had planned anything, but we each ended up speaking directly from heart.

What piece of advice would you give to a bride planning her wedding today? First, hire a wedding planner as early as possible. Our planner was the person responsible for making sure that everything came together for the wedding day. Second, dont get stressed with the planning. Remember that ultimately the only thing that really matters is who you end up with at the end!
