Picturesque Tuscany Elopement with Photography by Roberto Panciatici – Katie and Dallas

March 12, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Effortlessly stylish and epically romantic, Katie and Dallas’ Tuscany elopement was inspired by the expansive natural beauty of the Italian countryside, and the unbelievable food, wine and atmosphere that goes with it. From the sunset ceremony to the candlelit dinner, Roberto Panciatici captured every magnificent moment – if his images don’t make you want to jet off to Italy, like right this second, I don’t know what will. Enjoy!

The Goals: As an event floral designer in Los Angeles, my job is to plan elaborate events and dive into endless details. For our wedding, because it was just going to be us and two of our closest friends, we wanted zero stress and to really embrace beginning our lives together as husband and wife in the overwhelming beauty of the Tuscan countryside where we had always dreamed of traveling together. Incredibly delicious fresh food, copious amounts of Prosecco and red wine, and crazy romance was everything we wanted! Our décor was no-fuss and completely influenced by the land. I made my bouquet from the loveliest lavender we had picked up in a little village while wine tasting earlier that week, and I arranged vases of loose, lush fresh olive branches from the trees on the property for our dinner table along with lots of white candles. Simplicity is so often the best and is “us” as a couple at our core.

The Planning: We knew from the very beginning that we wanted to elope in Italy and have a trip of a lifetime instead of having a traditional wedding. Our friends Megan and Bryan had recently honeymooned at Podere Finerri in Tuscany and instantly convinced us it was the perfect place for us to get married. Dallas completely took the reins and planned our travel itinerary through Paris, Venice, Tuscany and Rome, and Daniela at Podere Finerri graciously handled the day-of details.

The Moments: The entire day truly was magic and ridiculously romantic! We soaked up every second of the beauty at Podere Finerri, but one moment will stay forever closest to my heart…  Just after I finished final makeup touches and slipped into my dress, I stepped outside to take in the view and some fresh air. A large beautiful butterfly floated toward me, landed on my belly, and literally stayed looking at me for several minutes before floating back off into the olive grove. This moment was so special because we had chosen our date in honor of my late grandmother Yvonne’s birthday who I was incredibly close with, and ever since she passed several years ago, I believe she shows up in my life from time to time as a black and gold butterfly. It was such an emotional moment! And we are STILL reminiscing about our insanely delizioso seven-course meal prepared for us by Malcolm, the owner of Podere Finerri and chef extraordinaire.

The Photographer: We were looking for a super artistic photographer that had obvious taste and style, in addition to being very professional and responsive. We could not have been more pleased with Roberto Panciatici and his comfortable, fun demeanor on the day of our wedding, as well as his follow-up and our incredible photos!

The Advice: Plan the wedding of YOUR dreams together, not what you feel pressured to plan! If you’re going all out with a traditional wedding, hire a planner and the best possible vendors to ensure all of the details are completely covered!

Blush, Gold and Ivory California Wedding – Cora and Deron

March 10, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

To dine al fresco in warm Southern California is a dream in itself, but when you add in gorgeous blush and gold decor and two beautiful newlyweds, then you’ve got a night to remember! Cora and Deron celebrated their wedding at the incredible Hummingbird Nest Ranch, in Santa Susana, with a day that was sweet as could be! Duke Photography captured everything from the darling dessert table and twinkling lights to the joyful ceremony with warmth and elegance.

The Inspiration: Our wedding was inspired by my (Cora) love for all things rustic and modern vintage, as well as by my interest in DIY projects. A lot of the decor, from the table settings to the favors, I envisioned and made with help from Deron’s mom and from my bridesmaids.

The Moments: The most memorable part of the day was when we exchanged the vows we wrote for each other. Although we exchanged them in front of all of our guests, it felt like it was just the two of us in that moment. The sentiments reflected the life we shared for the past 8 years prior to getting married and the future we were about to embark on.

The Design: The modern vintage theme was reflected throughout the wedding, ranging from the color scheme to all the DIY touches. DIY elements include the table numbers made of ceramic floor tiles covered with vintage-inspired scrapbook paper, tea-stained doily menus, burlap and lace honey jar favors, escort card table display, and the wedding signs. Deron added his touch to the overall decor by including both a scotch tasting and cigar bar, which were a big hit with the guests.

The Location: Because we were having a summer wedding, we wanted to take advantage of the warm evenings in Southern California. When we toured Hummingbird Nest Ranch, we immediately knew it was the venue for us, with the gorgeous Spanish villa set against the Santa Susana mountains. It provided the perfect canvas to plan a rustic and vintage-inspired outdoor wedding.

The Advice: In hindsight, as much as I enjoyed the DIY projects, it did become a bit overwhelming coupled with all the other planning that was taking place. I would highly recommend that brides-to-be make a list of all potential DIY projects, prioritize them, and then focus on tackling the top 3-5 items while enlisting personal and/or professional help for the remaining projects. That way, you can relax and enjoy yourself and your partner before the big day!

Gray and White Wedding in Charleston, South Carolina – Becca and Taylor

March 7, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Becca and Taylor were married at the Historic Rice Mill Building, in Charleston, South Carolina, in a celebration that was simple and modern. The gray and white reception decor felt perfectly effortless – I love the single white blossoms in eclectic glass vases scattered along the geometric table runner and the place cards written in lovely calligraphy. Paige Winn Photo captured the day, as well as beautiful portraits of the couple looking completely, contentedly in love.

The Goals: Our main goal was to have fun! We knew going in that planning could be stressful (we are both planners by trade in advertising), so we were determined to keep the planning of our wedding fun and stress free. While we weren’t 100% successful at staying calm as cucumbers the entire time, we did have a lot of fun planning all the details that would make our wedding day so personal to us. We also knew that it can be very easy to get caught up and totally overwhelm ourselves with choice and detail. To help remedy that, Taylor and I each picked the top three aspects of the wedding that were most important to each of us, so we would remember to keep everything in perspective. My top 3 things were photography, decor and food while Taylor focused on transportation, music and drinks (and keeping me happy and sane!). Doing that really helped us keep our budget on track and kept us focused on the bigger picture.

The Look: Above all, I wanted to look like myself on my wedding day. I didn’t go overboard with makeup or hair. I usually rock a braid in my hair, which my husband loves, so I knew I wanted to incorporate that, but elevate it to an updo. I was so pleased with what Paper Dolls was able to come up with for both make-up and hair. My dress honestly took me quite by surprise. It was something I didn’t picture myself in at all on the hanger, but once I put it on, it was hard to take off. I loved the soft lace on the bodice, the sweetheart neckline and the buttons down the back. It seemed to be the perfect blend of romantic yet elegant, which was just the look I was after. For my bridesmaids, I let them choose their own vintage inspired dresses based on our wedding color palette. I loved that each girl was able to choose her own style and bring a bit of her personality to the day. It was also much easier for me to go this route, because all of my lovely ladies were scattered across the country so going to dress appointments would have proven very difficult! For the groomsmen, we went with a classic tux. They guys were my modern, clean lines element and the girls brought the vintage flair.

The Design: We wanted a classy but casual setting where our guests could relax and be themselves. Most importantly, we wanted our guests to have a good time, enjoy the incredible food and dance the night away (mission accomplished!). We picked Charleston because it is the epicenter of all of those things – a classy yet casual foodie’s dream. Our theme was vintage modern, which was inspired by the Historic Rice Mill building itself. We loved the history the building brought through the handscraped floors and tin ceilings and decided to contrast that with more modern design. We picked a mix of decor elements that brought either a modern or vintage feel to the room – from the vintage marquee “love” sign that lit the dance floor to the cool grey tablecloths and geometric runners – everything had a purpose to achieve that overall vintage modern look.

The Moments: My favorite moment was being announced as Mr. and Mrs. Grimes at the reception. It was such a rush to see all of our friends and family cheering us as we walked in. Throughout the reception, Taylor and I would steal away for a few minutes to tell each other our favorite things about the night and just watch all of our friends and family have a great time. It can be so easy to run around all night trying to say hello to everyone, so we made sure to have a few moments just to ourselves to enjoy the night together.

The Advice: Be present in every moment of the day! It all goes by so quickly – remember to see and hear everything in the moment as it happens and try not to worry or stress about what should happen next. Just be there in the moment with the ones you love – that’s what makes the day so special.
