Gold and Cream Wedding in Johannesburg, South Africa with Photos by Adam Alex – Ashleigh and Stasi

July 7, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Today we are happy to share Ashleigh and Stasi’s wedding in Johannesburg, South Africa from destination photographer Adam Alex! Being in the fashion industry, both the bride and groom wanted a stylish and unique wedding. They settled on a glamorous vintage decor theme and ran with it, playing with layers of glittery gold, cream feathers and vintage details. Completed to perfection with a stunning gown handmade by the grandmother of the bride, Ashleigh and Stasi’s wedding is a dream come true!

The Goals: As we live in London and our families live in South Africa we were looking forward to spending time with loved ones. We wanted a warm friendly wedding to allow us to enjoy spending time with friends and family. As we are both in the fashion industry, decor and and an attention to detail was important. Stasi is Greek and I am English so we had to incorporate both families’ traditions and culture. We included elements such as the stefana in the church and Greek dancing and breaking of the plates at the reception.

The Design: We kept the ceremony very simple as the Greek church already had lots of detail. Originally we were inspired by “The Great Gatsby” but after the movie came out it became such a huge trend we decided to go for a more classic elegant vintage feel but still bring in 1920s details such as feathers, gold and tassels. Our pre-reception cocktails were in the gardens of the Shepstone venue so we had to create interesting decor details such as the champagne fountain, throughout the large venue for our guests. Garden games kept everyone entertained while we had photographs taken. Our dinner reception was underneath a large glass marquee with lots of small details, sequin table runners and trinkets on long tables that really created a lovely united atmosphere over dinner.

The Look: My Gran made all of the bridal party attire for my mom’s wedding as well as all of my aunts’. We spent a year putting together my wedding dress and completing the heavy beading on chantilly lace. It was a stressful process as I didn’t know what the end result would look like but it was wonderful spending so much time with my Gran creating a unique one of a kind dress and upheld the tradition in our family. She is an expert at beadwork and it showed on the dress, most of the bodice was covered in fine freshwater pearls offset with Swarovski montes. I carried the elegant vintage theme through with my headpiece and chose a simple style of shoes from  Jimmy Choo as the dress was so detailed. The bridesmaids dresses were made by my gran too in a soft champagne colour chiffon that draped beautifully. It was accented with Swarovski beadwork on lace applique which was designed differently for each to create four unique dresses.

The Moments: My favourite moment of the day was meeting Stasi at the altar after my dad walked me down the aisle. It was an emotional moment for my dad and Stasi was beaming in his suit. He looked so handsome!

The Advice: Work with people you love from the beginning as it is a long process and if it isn’t working in the beginning it will probably become more difficult as time goes on. Professionals that are happy to go above and beyond will relieve a lot of stress from the couple.

Gold, Silver, and White Destination Wedding Weekend in Cabo San Lucas, Photos by Chris+Lynn

July 6, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

We are so excited to share Piper and Matt’s three day destination wedding beginning with a welcome dinner featuring a little taste of México, then a sparkling gold and white rehearsal dinner and ending with a shimmering silvery dream wedding celebration. These three magical days at the Capella Pedregal Resort in Cabo San Lucas were all captured by Chris+Lynn Photographers

The Couple: Piper and Matt

The Wedding: 6.22.13 – Capella Pedregal, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

The Goals: One of our main priorities was picking a venue that was special and meaningful to us where the management team at the venue was willing and excited to work closely with us on every detail while being flexible and accommodating and making it fun along the way. We also wanted to secure a fantastic band that would play the music we selected since our friends and family love to dance! The most important goal was ensuring our friends and family were willing and able to travel to Cabo because we werent going to get married out of the country without our closest friends and family in attendance; that number included about 120 people. We didn’t want the typical tiny destination wedding. This was so important to us because our friends and family live all over the country, from Vegas to New York, Chicago to Oklahoma, and we dont get to see them as much as we would like. This was our chance to have everyone we love all together and a chance for all of our friends to meet and get to know one another.

Welcome to Cabo! For Thursday night, we had a traditional Mexican theme, welcoming everyone to Cabo with yummy Mexican cuisine! The decor included lanterns, mini cactuses, tons of candles, coral napkins, a mariachi band, and fireworks over the ocean to end the evening!

Rehearsal Dinner: Friday night was the gold night. We had a sit down dinner hosted by the grooms parents. The decor included gold shimmer runners, gold mercury candle holders with lots of candlelight creating a very romantic feel, and a single white orchid on each guests napkin.

The Design: Elegant, sophisticated, contemporary, intimate, unique, matchless and fun! We used these adjectives to describe our vision of what we wanted our wedding weekend to look and feel like for our guests and us. It was three glorious nights of celebration with each night having its own decor. The color white was predominant during all three nights especially for the bride! I wore a special white dress each night.

The ceremony was at sunset in the lobby on Saturday. We draped the pillars with white fabric, hanging white orchids and white lanterns. We used white calla lilies and peonies for the boutonnières and bridesmaids bouquets. The view of Pacific Ocean as the backdrop was incredible! We had one song sung, a duet singing The Prayer.

The reception was the silver night. The food was served all night long. The decor featured white charmeuse linens, fun lounge furniture, an all white chandelier over the dance floor, a lit up bar, white peonies and orchids with silver accents including the table runners, votives and pillows.

The Look: For all three nights, the look was white, clean, sophisticated, and kind of sassy. My Thursday night dress and headpiece had a hint of bohemian long, flowy, and fun! My Friday night dress was short, strapless, and a bit roaring ’20s flair. My Saturday night wedding dress was more high fashion with a birdcage veil that gathered on the side of my head with a hint of the ’20s accented with a broach.

I had a handkerchief that was given to me by our closest family friend, Ann Clancy. It was her husbands, Kevin Clancy, who passed away a month before the wedding. He was Irish through and through, so we had Kevins initials embroidered on the white hankie in green. I carried that with me down the aisle and both Matt and I used it a lot during the tearful ceremony. It was my most special accessory.

Matt wanted to be James Bond (literally) with the white dinner jacket and white suspenders very clean and sharp looking.

The bridesmaid dresses were a goldish taupe – very sophisticated and flirty, but also a tad sexy with a v-neck plunge. I loved the overlay fabric the dress had that gave it a romantic feel as they walked in the wind.

The Moments: Our most special moments included: saying our personal wedding vows to each other, listening to the song, The Prayer, at our ceremony and of course, our wedding kiss! The most fun part of the evening though was at the end of the reception, when the band had everyone come in around us to dance to one of our favorite songs Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” the dancing was such fun!

Glamorous Black, White and Gold Wedding with Sequin Bridesmaid Dresses at Southern California’s Resort at Pelican Hill

July 5, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Our bride Meghan is a cofounder of Intertwined Events, one of the most highly sought after wedding planning companies in Orange County. Needless to say, we were curious how she would plan her own wedding after planning so many for others. Let me tell you, we weren’t disappointed in the least bit! Meghan and Aaron’s wedding has all the glam of Hollywood and they even chose the talented APictureLife Photography to capture all the glitter and gold.

What three adjectives best describe your wedding? Modern, shiny, and glam

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? Shiny and new with a nod to the classic. There is nothing more dramatic than black and white but to give it a modern, glam twist we added in gold, strong prints and sequin bridesmaid dresses. We wanted the style to be something bold but something we would love for years to come. As well, I sign every email, every letter, every text or tweet with XOXO and that was the inspiration for all of the paper good designs. Loved it!

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? I loved our ceremony. Both of them! Our first ceremony was a private church ceremony the day before the wedding. We invited all the campers and volunteers from the camp that Katie and I have volunteered at for 15 years and directed for 6 – www.ReCreationCampOC.com (camps for adults and children with developmental disabilities). To have our Camp Family as part of our wedding was so special and so important. Hearing everyone singing and praying in church with us will forever be one of the best memories of my life.

For the ceremony at Pelican Hill, we asked our best friends who have been married for about 5 years to talk about the commitment of marriage. Then we asked our family’s best friends who have been married for 35 years to also speak of what love and marriage are about. It was amazing to really focus together on the commitment we were making to one another with the support of our family and friends around us.

We loved all the small details that made up the rest of the day from the heart guest book that Aaron built, to my Nonna’s cannolis served as a dessert in her memory, to each guest receiving a small handwritten note at their seat telling them how much they mean to us! And the event planner in me absolutely LOVED the decor – the large gold bar, the black and white dance floor, the striped linens, the gold lamps on tables, the white lounge furniture – it was better than I could have imagined!!!

But the very best part – besides marrying the best guy ever – was we laughed, ate, drank and danced the night away with our favorite people in the whole world that night and it was truly magical. We have never felt so happy and so blessed!

What piece of advice would you give to a bride planning her wedding today? Of course I am biased, but my first piece of advice is hire a professional! Your wedding is sooooo important to you, your fiance and your families, and it deserves an expert. Not to mention a great wedding planner will take the stress off of you, bring your dreams to life in the best way possible and will end up saving you money too!

As well, make decisions that are important and unique to you and your future husband, as a couple. Let the wedding shine as the beginning of your marriage – your love story! Don’t get caught up in fads or pretty things on Pinterest and feel you have to include them all if they don’t make sense. Keep the wedding genuine and true to who you both are and the guests will rave about how the wedding is “so you two! There is no better compliment.
