Navy and Pink Farm Wedding in South Africa

September 8, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

greenhouse couple's portrait

Rozanne and Theuns’ navy and pink farm wedding, filled with charming details, chic wedding party fashion, and a rustic venue, was a sweet and stylish success.  Christopher Smith‘s marvelous photography captured everything from the romantic portraits of the beautiful couple to the wedding’s inspiring vintage decor.

The Couple: Rozanne and Theuns

The Wedding: Rosenary Hill Farm, Pretoria, South Africa

The Inspiration: We both love the color navy and because we held our wedding at an organic farm surrounded with flowers and herbs in a barn, we went for the rustic vintage country style wedding. We also wanted to put focus on good food and good company.

Pretty Vineyard Wedding at Sunstone Winery, Santa Ynez, California by Ashleigh Taylor Photography

September 6, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

It was love at first sight when Katie and Scott found their wedding venue; the Sunstone Winery in St Ynez, California. Drawing inspiration from the romantic vineyards, the couple planned a wedding that was both elegant and personal, combining classic fashion and pretty coral and pink blossoms with family photos and heirlooms. All the gorgeousness, including an outdoor ceremony beneath a sparkling chandelier, was captured by Ashleigh Taylor Photography. Beautiful!

The Goals: First and foremost, we wanted to create a memorable experience for ourselves and our loved ones. Of course we wanted our guests to have fun (Translation: good food, tasty drinks, and plenty of dancing), but we also took a lot of time carefully planning our ceremony. Needless to say, we wanted to treasure the memories from our wedding day for the rest of forever, so photos and video were a top priority as well.

The Design: The design really centered around the venue. When we first came to Santa Ynez to look at wineries for possible venues we saw a lot of the same. The moment we entered the Sunstone Winery the whole feeling was different; it was like we were at a villa in Europe but in our own backyard. We were enchanted and knew we had to get married there.

We wanted our guests to be just as swept away as we were and feel like they were in the French countryside. I was inspired by decor that was rustic with vintage details. This theme translated into all areas of the design: simple, classic, elegant, and of course romantic. My favorite design element was the chandelier that hung in the tree above us as we exchanged vows. I am also very sentimental, and made sure to include personal details where I could. Our welcome table was decorated with family wedding portraits from both sides and I made sure to include a cross stitch saying about marriage my grandmother made for us, especially because she couldn’t physically be with us that day.

The Look: I wanted my bridal style to be timeless, so that looking back years from now you wouldn’t be able to say, “Oh, that was 2013.” I love lace and knew that I wanted a sleek silhouette for my dress that would compliment the rustic setting, and also be easy to move, dance, and run in.

As far as jewelry goes, I found this amazing pair of Miriam Haskell earrings while vintage shopping and knew they would make a perfect “something old.” My mother let me borrow a pearl bracelet of hers for something borrowed. My flowers were soft and round in shape, many were local to the area like the lavender in my bouquet.

The groomsmen wore navy blue suits and coral ties. My girls were dressed in strapless blush long chiffon gowns which blew in the wind and were very romantic, their bouquets were little pops of color in orange and pink.

The Moments: There are so many special moments of our day. Scott and I chose to write our own vows (which we highly recommend) and reading them to each other was the most touching thing – words cannot express. We also took about ten minutes to ourselves after the ceremony to talk to each other as husband and wife. One of my favorite moments was dancing with my dad. He is such a great dancer and twirled me around the dance floor to “The Way You Look Tonight” by Randy Lyght. He also gave a toast that didn’t leave a dry eye. The funniest part of the evening was when the ring bearers (six and four), parted the dance floor as they enthusiastically and accurately danced to Gangham Style. It was adorable, they were having so much fun.

The Advice: Biggest piece of advice: like your vendors. If it’s not a good fit, don’t hire them – keep looking. Honestly, by the time my wedding was over, half of my vendors felt like my friends. It makes the whole process easier. You get better service when there is easy communication and it keeps everyone on the same page. Also, (and everyone will tell you this) don’t sweat the small stuff. Make a list of your top priorities and make sure those things get done, and let the rest GO. At the end of the day, you get to marry the man of your dreams, and that’s what makes it the best day ever.
