Adventurous New Zealand Helicopter Wedding

October 30, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Some couples plan weddings, while others plan adventures. Free spirits Jeni and James planned a one-of-a-kind helicopter wedding in New Zealand and brought along Golden Hour Studios to capture it all. The pair exchanged their vows in front of family and friends outside of Glendhu Station before being whisked away by Wakana Helicopters to the top of Mt. Roy. Jesse Pafundi of Golden Hour Studios photographed the couple’s tender moments atop the mountain in what are absolutely breathtaking portraits before the helicopter returned them to The Venue where they ate, danced, and enjoyed the company of their loved ones.

The Couple: Jeni and James

The Wedding: Glendhu Station and The Venue, Wanaka, New Zealand

The Inspiration: “Jeni always wanted a sense of adventure with their wedding, the helicopter certainly brought that factor in. Secondly outdoors was important as James and Jen are more often enjoying life in the sunshine. It was fall in Wanaka so the idea to create an aisle out of leaves created the perfect theme. Finally THE DRESS was of course the utmost important aspect and Jeni wanted whimsical yet elegant and Claire Pettibone is exactly that.

The Moment: “After saying ‘I DO’ the helicopter arrived and we were whisked off to the top of Mt. Roy overlooking the Wanaka Lake, Jeni took her shoes off and James and her walked along the mountain edge with a bottle of Veuve in tow.
Jesse was somewhere in the background snapping away whilst James and Jen reminicsed on the day so far and the excitement ahead of them for their future together!

The Couple Recommends: “Maxine from the Venue was the most amazing professional and caring woman you want behind the scenes at any wedding. From the first initial email to visiting the Venue twice before the wedding, Maxine had every last detail sorted in line with the bride’s theme.

Junebug Love Story – Brenna & Andrew’s New York Proposal

October 30, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

As we start to cozy into cooler fall weather, we’re looking back at Brenna and Andrew’s rustic mountain wedding for inspiration. We love their style so much, we had to know more about what brought them together before making their way to Junebug. We love a relationship with a little bit of healthy competition, and this couple has the cutest story behind their first date. After being together for many years, Andrew planned to surprise Brenna with a New York proposal. His plans were almost foiled by high heels and a taxi cab, but in the end, this perfect pair were meant to be.

How They Met:

Brenna: We went to Vassar together, but met our freshman year when we ran against each other in a student council election. Andrew won (by three votes), but we went on our first date right after.

The Moment They Knew:

Brenna: Honestly, we’ve loved each other a long time, almost 10 years, but looking back, there’s a photo our very dear friend Jeremy took of the two of us when we were both 18. We are both lying outside on the quad in the sunshine laughing together and while we didn’t in that moment realize the significance, that photo captured something very special. When I look at it, I know it was the first days of us being in love, not even realizing it, but just basking in being together and so happy.

The Proposal:

Brenna: We live in New York and had spent the morning wandering around the city. For some reason, Andrew kept trying to get me to take a helicopter tour but I was in heels and not remotely interested. We were down in Battery Park, overlooking the harbor, and I had no idea what was happening and kept trying to get in a cab. Andrew kept trying to drag me to more and more picturesque locations. When he finally pulled out a ring on the top of this staircase over looking the Statue of Liberty and the beautiful harbor, I started to panic. But he just laughed and kept going. I finally pulled myself together enough to say yes, only to find some tourist woman had filmed the whole thing from below. She sent it to us after.

I Always Think of My Partner When:

Brenna: Oh gosh, all the time. We’ve been together so long and shared so much. But honestly I also think of him when it’s dinner time because he’s the best cook on the planet and I would starve to death without him.

Thank you so much to Brenna and Andrew for sharing your story with us, and to Chowen Photography for capturing their special day. For another sweet love story, check out Veronique and Glen’s Christmas proposal.

Another trending food this season is homemade marmalade, which makes a sweet favor for your wedding guests. Lisa was so kind as to share her recipe for citrus marmalade, which we think would be delicious with the cheese and cider as well!

Three-Citrus Marmalade Recipe:

Ingredients –
4 large grapefruit
8 oranges
6 lemons
6 cups of orange juice
Sugar (quantity depends on citrus juice volume)

Method –
Carefully section (supreme) all of your citrus fruits, saving the rinds. Grind the rinds together.
Add orange juice to the rinds and allow this to sit overnight.
Measure the volume of the rinds and juice combined. Measure twice the amount of sugar as juice and rinds combined, then add it to the rinds and cook for 30-45 minutes until the marmalade rises to the top of the pan.
Turn down until bubbles cease.
Repeat this three times, being careful that the liquid doesn’t run over.
Fill into canning cars with heat sealed lids. Use canning instructions.
Personalize with label, ribbon, fabric square, etc.
