Romantic and Casual Elopement in Victoria, BC

December 11, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Jesse Holland wedding photos

Amy and Eric’s casual elopement perfectly achieved their goal of keeping their wedding day focused on the love and relationship they share. The pair booked an elopement package with Laurel Point Inn in Victoria, British Columbia, which provided every detail and accommodation the couple envisioned. They asked photographer Jesse Holland to join them on their intimate day, as both their photographer and as a witness to their vows and commitment. Jesse Holland did an exceptional job of both roles, resulting in truly stunning wedding day portraits that Amy and Eric will cherish forever.

The Couple: Amy and Eric

The Wedding: Laurel Point Inn, Victoria, British Columbia

The Inspiration:Casual with a hint of tradition, in keeping with the elopement theme. Most of the clothes we wore were items we have owned for years already. We wanted the day to just truly be about us coming together and tried not to bring vanity in to it too much. Even the decision to have a photographer was more for the benefit of family and friends. We are SO happy the photos turned out as beautiful as they did.

The Moments: “After the ceremony and all of the photos were taken when we got to just sit for dinner with some champagne and bask in each others company as newlyweds! The table at our restaurant was ocean view, the night was clear and the moon was gigantic and orange in the sky. Couldn’t have been more romantic. The moment when we panicked and realized that we needed TWO witness! Our wonderful photographer Jesse was one witness and we ended up recruiting a nearby gardener as out second witness. It was hilarious and memorable.

The Couple Recommends: “We had the unique experience of purchasing an Elopement package from the Laurel Point Hotel in Victoria BC (which I highly recommend for any occasion, it is a wonderful place). For about $2000 they took care of everything from the wedding commissioner and bouquet to dinner, champagne and even a cake! We stayed in their penthouse suite for the weekend, they gave us each a robe that we could take home and complementary room-service breakfast. It was amazing to have it all taken care of and completely stress free. Literally the only things we needed to do were get the marriage license and hire a photographer. It was so great and I highly recommend it!

Finding wedding inspiration in your every day lives

We start by getting to know the couple that we are working with- their personal likes and dislikes, which designers they look towards in fashion (if that applies for them), what interior styles fit their lifestyle and anything that brought them together in the first place (perhaps a restaurant where they are regulars, for example). When one of my recent couples was planning their wedding they were also in the midst of building their first home. We wanted to take their sleek, yet cozy, warm and playful styles and bring them to life from the save-the-dates through to the day-of details. While it might sound trite, the best weddings and the ones that we are most proud of, we hear guests saying: “This was seamless,” “The band killed it and played all of our favorite songs,” “This was SO them!”. With sentiments like that we know these will be cherished memories.

What makes a wedding memorable

I always feel closest to the last wedding and couple. We had a great time, for instance, with our bride Sandra Echeverria. She’s a Latin Soap star and emerging crossover actress here in LA. Every interaction with her was sweet and kind. Nothing needed to be too serious but she wanted a layered warm feel from the ceremony through the reception design. It was a blast to connect with other pros and build just that! Working with linens, décor and standard rentals, floral and lighting brought Sandra’s generous personality to the forefront and everyone got a kick out of how we collaborated to welcome both her international and local friends and family together.

Small details can make a big impact

When hosting a special event, you want to think of your guests and their full experience. Many times couples think about key-parts and highlights but how those events and invitations relate to your guests will provide lasting impressions. It’s not just the wedding day -though the crescendo should be there- it’s the arrival and departure and the thoughtfulness of guests’ comfort and connection to one another that makes it all seamless and enjoyable.

We want to extend a huge thank you to Cassandra Santor for providing her expertise on wedding design, and for showcasing such dynamic wedding ideas. For more expert advice, learn how to plan your ceremony with the help of Seattle officiant Annemarie Juhlian.

Purple and Lavender Louisville Wedding

December 11, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

When a wedding comes together with the help of good friends, sale rack finds, and true love, you know it’s going to be one for the books. Lindsay and Chris’ purple and lavender Louisville wedding was made possible by two amazing friends of the couple, who provided the perfect venue and dreamy wedding styling. The lovely photographer Sarah Katherine Davis captured every bit of the charming wedding, from the perfectly purple accessories to the enchanting sunset portraits of the couple.

The Couple: Lindsay and Chris

The Wedding: Louisville, Kentucky

The Inspiration:We only had six months from our engagement to the wedding, so that helped up prioritize things as far as decor goes. Mostly we wanted to keep it simple and authentic to things that are important to us as a couple, which I guess meant there wasn’t a ‘theme’ per say. We just did things we liked and were available to us on our limited time frame and budget.

Our fashion was also cobbled together as we went along. My dress came from Topshop’s sale rack, my shoes were Rockports that are super comfortable and I plan on wearing again, my earrings I got ages ago at Joe Ley’s antique store, my sash and pin came from Etsy. Chris wore a button-down shirt he already had, sweater and jacket from Banana Republic, pants and shoes from Dillards — his outfit was put together literally the weekend before the wedding.

The Moments:

Lindsay: Our vows. We wrote our own and it was probably the most magical part of the day, standing in front of all our family and friends and saying why we loved each other, and that we wanted to be together forever. Plus, there wasn’t a dry eye in the place afterwards!

Chris: When we went outside by ourselves for a minute away from the craziness and took a couple breaths and realized that it was all worth it and really fun.

The Couple Recommends: “Melinda at the Pepin was amazing. And Lauren, who is a friend of Lindsay‘s, was basically given free reign with the ceremony decor and put together something that was more perfect than ever could have been requested!
