DIY Brazilian Wedding

DIY-Garden-Party-Wedding-Gustavo-Marialva-32

When couples start planning their weddings, they often describe their vision as being very personal or representative of their personalities as a couple. Luana and Aruanã couldn’t have done a better job creating a day that reflected their fun, offbeat style. The Brazilian wedding came together with multiple DIY projects completed by the bride and groom, as well as their talented loved ones. To ensure that every carefully crafted detail was captured, Luana and Aruanã hired the extraordinarily talented Gustavo Marialva to photograph and Oui Films to film the day.

The Couple:

Luana & Aruanã

The Wedding:

Recanto do Barão, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The Inspiration:

We were going for a vintage backyard alternative shabby chic wedding. We wanted to have a wedding that looks personal and had a lot of our lives and personality in it. A couple of days before the wedding our cats destroyed half of the wedding favors succulents that we prepared. So we had to get more, and wrap them all over again! Also we underestimated the work of opening 25 pompons the day before the wedding. Sure takes patience, but they ended up awesome! Our own fluffy clouds! We also painted 150 gold bottles for the flowers, did ceremony bells, pompoms, brownies, finished the invitations with sealing wax and tags, and painted golden frames to hang on the tree. My mom sewed many felt hearts and she also did crochet towels for the main ceremony table and other tables. My grandmother sewed the ring bearer pillow.

As if Gustavo Marialva‘s images weren’t enough, here’s the exceedingly romantic wedding film created by Oui Films:

The Moments:

Our favorite moment was the wedding vowels. It was a lot of joy and emotion. We wrote our own and it was probably the most magical part of the day! The photocabine also gave the garden a cool environment because it was inside a vintage VW Kombi car.

The Couple Recommends:

All of our vendors were exceptional! Viviane Gratz was outstanding in helping our wedding vision come to life. She helped at every step of the giving ideas and executed everything beautifully on our wedding day. Our photographer Gustavo Marialva captured countless great photos. His photos are completely beautiful and capture the feel, love and spirit of the day!

Chic Wedding in France

January 30, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Nautical-French-Wedding-Sebastien-Boudot-21

France is positively synonymous with chic styling, and so is Jessica and Vincent’s wedding in Marseillan. The couple chose a courthouse ceremony followed by a nautical-inspired celebration at La Singuliére, complete with handmade origami sailboats. Photographer Sebastien Boudot captured the ease and romance of the intimate wedding beautifully, and we can tell Jessica and Vincent are as in love with these images as they are with each other.

The Couple:

Jessica and Vincent

The Wedding:

La Singuliére, Marseillan, France

The Inspiration:

A vintage nautical and cool wedding! The décor of the chambre was already white with hues of blues, and so I decided to go with a navy palette with vintage accents. Chevron table runners and hundred of handmade paper boat garlands were hung to set the mood and it worked!

A Delphine Manivert short dress and Yves Saint-Laurent blue shoes kept my look contemporary, edgy but with that special touch, and I really wanted a small hat made by a wonderful lady around, that will add a touch of vintage. My husband Vincent looked so handsome in his handmade suit from a wonderful atelier in Paris, we chose a deep blue suit with “Pied de Poule” patterns for his bow tie.

The Moments:

Impossible to choose! Our wedding was so emotional and magical that I cried the whole time. And we had an amazing party till early hours on the morning. If I had to choose the very best moments: our first look, the moment we said “yes,” the special song of my sister that she wrote especially for us, and my mother’s speech.

The Couple Recommends:

As part of the wedding world, I knew and trusted all the vendors. All of them did an amazing work! A special mention to Sebastien, our photographer and my friend for more than 10 years now. It was so good to be with him for that special moment. The other Sebastien, our videographer did also an amazing, original and teardrop movie.

Colorful Toronto Wedding at Mildred’s Temple Kitchen

January 29, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Colorful-Toronto-Wedding-Celine-Kim-13

Floral design can be such a defining aspect of wedding decor. The level of color and volume of flowers in a wedding help to set the mood, while choosing polished or wild arrangements show more personality of the couple and how they want to be represented on their wedding day. Cheryl and Fabio’s colorful Toronto wedding was charming and modern, with an array of bright petals and a modern venue choice in Mildred’s Temple Kitchen. We can’t take our eyes off the sweet style of the bride and groom, in shades of pink, blue, and yellow for their big day. Photographer Celine Kim masterfully captured the colors and emotions that defined Cheryl and Fabio’s perfectly personal wedding day.

The Couple:

Cheryl and Fabio

The Wedding:

Mildred’s Temple Kitchen, Toronto, Ontario

The Inspiration:

We didn’t have a theme or any grand vision of what we wanted the wedding to look like. We just had no idea and had never really thought about it. We also procrastinated a great deal in our wedding planning and were very relieved that everything looked somewhat cohesive at the end. The venue itself was selected for its bright modern and neutral look, so really, anything would have looked wonderful in there. We just decided that we wanted everything to look colourful and happy!

I spent a lot of time looking for a very modern, simple “un-wedding” dress, but none looked quite right on me. Vintage dresses are my tried and true and I don’t know why i even bothered to look at other types of dresses in the first place. I feel that once you put on a vintage gown, nothing else even compares. Vintage dresses are so special without even trying and are often so figure-flattering. Mine was a fairly simple dress from the 1940s but it had the prettiest soutache lace and a super dreamy diaphanous layer of silk organza. It was a dream dress, for sure.

The Moments:

Fabio and I spent a quiet day getting ready together. My best friend Carolyn came over to hang out with me and my brother came by to bring me my bouquet, and the four of us just hung out and chatted and had a super peaceful morning. Then went out with our photographers and to have our photos taken at a ravine near our house, and that was peaceful and lovely too. After that we drove to our venue and we wait at the entrance with our parents, a little bit nervous, just before we walk down the aisle. But at that moment when the music started and Fabio and his parents took their first steps down the aisle, the whole place erupted in applause! Like, they were applauding us while we were walking down the aisle! It was sort of crazy and joyous, and I just kind of woke up and realized, oh my god, this is really happening! And I loved seeing all of our nearest and dearest crammed into that room! I totally spent most of the time saying excited hellos to everyone and forgetting to look at Fabio until the very end!

The Couple Recommends:

Our photographer Celine was amazing to work with. She’s this totally lovely and unobtrusive person who makes you feel totally at ease. And she’s amazingly talented, to boot!

I loved our flowers by Flower 597. I thrifted all of the brass and glass vessels, brought them to the florist and sort of vaguely asked for flowers that looked hand-picked, wild and colourful. They were better than I could have imagined. Every arrangement was different and so many lovely types of flowers were used.

The lady who altered and restored my 1940s dress was fantastic. She has a vast knowledge of antique and vintage clothing. My dress originally had a ginormous hoop skirt and big poufy shoulders (I was told that the original owner had the dress made for a debutante ball after she saw Gone with the Wind), with lots of stains and tears and she did such a lovely job restoring the dress. She really made it a special dress.

The Wedding Team:

Photography – Celine Kim
Venue – Midred’s Temple Kitchen
Floral Design – Flower 597
Cake – Sugar Tiers
Officiant – Toni Ellwand
DJ – Lucie Tic
Invitations – Ello There
Makeup Artist – Sonya Ho

Wedding Dress – Gababout Vintage, altered by Vintage Bride
Groom’s Apparel – Massimo Dutti
