Whimsical West Yorkshire Wedding on a Farm

If Gael and Pete’s wedding looks familiar, it may be because the whimsical affair won Best Ceremony in our 2014 Choice Awards. The farm fête in West Yorkshire was a personal and emotional celebration of love, punctuated by elements from both the bride and groom’s cultures. Sansom Photography had the wonderful fortune of capturing these two on their wedding day, and we can’t get enough of the fun couple portraits in the sunset!

The Couple:

Gael and Pete

The Wedding:

Great Edge Woodland, West Yorkshire, England

The Inspiration:

Our priority was to bring the people we love together and keep things down-to-earth. Gael‘s family have a farm in Yorkshire and we both agreed that the farms barn and surrounding landscape was the perfect setting for our rustic wedding. The farm set the inspiration for the overall wedding and the nearby woodland was the perfect spot to hold the ceremony. We wanted everything in close proximity and even have our guests camping on the farm so that the celebrations had no curfew! Gael also has family from Brittany, France and much of the wedding decor had Breton influence, from the blue hydrangeas in the bouquets which are typical for the region her family are from, as is lace so this was an obvious choice for the wedding dress. Pete put his graphic design skills to use hand making all the signs using reclaimed bits of wood from the farm yard. We also cut log discs and wrote all of our wedding guests names on them. There was plenty of influence from Pete’s side of the family too, his family made Devon cream tea and we made favour bags filled with Devon fudge & Breton caramels — a mix of both cultures!

The Moments:

There are so many moments that were really special it’s hard to pick one but I guess the ceremony in the wood tops our favourite moment! It had been raining just before the ceremony but as we arrived the sun came out to greet us. We planted a tree in the wood to mark the start of our married life and a few guests played music or read poems. After the ceremony finished the entire wedding party was led out of the wood back to the farm by our friends playing a procession of folk music and percussion! I remember looking back at all our wedding guests following us down the road dancing and cheering, it was a surreal moment and we were both ridiculously happy.

The Couple Recommends:

We would like to say a special thank you to Sansom Photography for capturing our wedding day so well & also the team at Eat Me Drink Me. They made the entire event run smoothly and the staff were so professional, not to mention how incredible the food was!

Rustic Industrial Wedding at Monteagle Sunday School Assembly

June 28, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Nyk + Cali, Wedding Photographers

Dark red, ivory, and blush florals, Edison lights dangling from wooden pillars, and burlap table runners came together to create the rustic decor at Joe and Lacy’s casual and fun wedding at the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly in Tennessee. Light-lavender bridesmaid gowns added an elegant touch to the laid-back design. The guest enjoyed a scrumptious pie table before participating in a sparkler send-off. We’re so glad Nyk + Cali captured amazing photos of this lovely wedding!

The Couple:

Joe and Lacy

The Wedding:

Monteagle Sunday School Assembly, Monteagle, Tennessee

The Inspiration:

I would describe our wedding decor as rustic and industrial. We had iron marquee signs with exposed lightbulbs and Edison lights dangling over the bar. We used burlap as table cloths and lace for table runners. Beer was served in mason jars and cokes were enjoyed from glass bottles. It was perfectly shabby chic.

The Moments:

Hmm, that’s a tough one! There was one moment during the reception when I stepped back from all the merriment and just watched for a minute. Everyone that I loved dearly was all together in one place, joy and music were exploding from the building, everyone (and I seriously mean everyone) was dancing with complete abandon, there was a September breeze coming through the door and I remember thinking that this, right here, is heaven meeting earth.

The Couple Recommends:

Nyk and Cali were just incredible. When we met for the initial interview, the four of us ended us staying for an hour just chatting about life. They didn’t just take our pictures, they really invested in a relationship with us. Evelyn Rains and Melanie Smith from A Village of Flowers were perfect. I had a pretty obscure vision of what I wanted for the bouquets (think decorative kale, pomegranates, and artichokes) and the two of them were right on track with everything that I was wanting and made the most unique and beautiful arrangements I had ever seen! Also, Ashlee Stephenson from The White Room, I swear she was a fairy godmother sent to me from heaven! She’s bubbly and energetic and made me feel like a rock star!

Lovely Natural Wedding at Spruce Mountain Ranch

June 28, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Lovely-Natural-Wedding-at-Spruce-Mountain-Ranch (28 of 40)

Bailey and Ben have a love for fishing, birdwatching, and everything nature has to offer. Their passion for a timeless botanical aesthetic drove all their creative decisions for their wedding at Spruce Mountain Ranch in Colorado. Wood cabins, pine trees, and wide open views marked the perfect setting for the couple to exchange vows. We love how the tables were covered in lush, unique florals, creating a cozy atmosphere at this gorgeous wedding. The Mullers brilliantly captured beautiful moments between the couple on their big day.

The Couple:

Bailey and Ben

The Wedding:

Spruce Mountain Ranch, Larkspur, Colorado

The Inspiration:

Because we both love to be in the outdoors, I knew that we needed something to reflect our love of nature that was low-key and classic. We also enjoy birdwatching and both work in creative fields, so I eventually decided to use the artwork of John James Audubon, a naturalist and artist in his own right, for our overall inspiration. My grandmother was also a huge birdwatcher, so we thought it would be a nice tribute to her. Audubon’s rich, jewel-toned palette, his timeless botanical aesthetic, and nature itself informed all our creative decisions. I tried to do as much of the decor/stationary myself as I could so the whole event would feel truly personal (though I almost went crazy). We ultimately wanted our guests to feel as if they had just walked into an intimate, cozy cabin in the woods for a laid-back, elegant family get-together.

The Moments:

Bailey: Ben pulled me aside halfway through the reception up to a little field overlooking the whole party. It was the first time I had a moment to take a breath and look up at the stars and appreciate how magical everything felt that night.

Ben: Our first dance (“Into the Mystic” by Van Morrison). It was the part of the wedding that I was most looking forward to because we had practiced a few times in our kitchen, and I knew the real thing would be great.

The Couple Recommends:

The MULLERS!!!! They were amazing. From our first meeting and engagement photo session right up through the wedding, they were nothing but easy and fun to work with. Plus, they are both unbelievably talented. Ben is a photographer, so he was super picky about our wedding photographs. When I showed him their work he immediately signed off, and I can’t recommend them enough.
