Sophia and Nathan had an ultimate garden wedding with breathtaking views of the water at Cedar Lodge in Canada. Sunny bright florals and calming, muted natural elements offered a contrasting atmosphere for the romantic day. The bride wore an elegant and simple, top embroidered gown, which blew effortlessly in the wind. Wolf willow, rosemary, and green grasses were just some of the plants adding to the coziness of the day. Josh Dookhie Photography expertly photographed stunning moments of the couple at their lovely wedding!

The Couple:

Sophia and Nathan

The Wedding:

Cedar Lodge, Saskatchewan, Canada

The Inspiration:

We wanted our wedding to be an extension of us and the things we love and value. For both of us, the best and most beautiful things in our lives have always happened outdoors, and we wanted to include many elements that honoured our prairie home. We gathered wolf willow from our parents’ acreages, grew rosemary, planted flowers. As well, we wanted to invite our incredibly talented family and friends to contribute their unique gifts; ceremony benches, archway, soap favours, floral displays, backdrops–everyone offered so much of their time and creativity. I also happened to be managing a thrift shop that year, so we were not short of great finds there. In short, our decor theme was inspired by the wild prairies around us, the resourceful “we-can-definitely-do-this-ourselves” creativity of our loved ones, and whatever treasures we could reuse around us. Natural, collective, thrifty.

As far as our fashion choices went, I knew from the start that I wanted a dress that wasn’t completely white, and one that was so comfortably that I didn’t have to think about again after I put it on. As a wedding party, we wanted to keep things simple and classic, with lots of neutrals and pops of gentle peach and coral throughout.

The Moments:

I would have to say my favourite moment was the exchanging of our vows. With all of the busyness and stress of the million little details that inevitably make up the last days before the wedding, it was a happy surprise to find ourselves able to be fully present to the gift of that sacred moment, sharing our hopes for our future in the presence of the best family and friends. For Nate, it was the part where we snuck away with our photographer after the reception to catch the sunset. We paused to take in the whirlwind of beautiful moments that was this day, with a perfect prairie sunset in the background, and were infinitely grateful.

The Couple Recommends:

Our photographer was amazing. Not only did he make us feel so comfortable in front of the camera, he did an incredible job with our photos. Very professional, incredibly talented, and such a warm and friendly person to work with and spend our wedding day with. We couldn’t say enough positive things about all of our vendors, really. We highly recommend each and every one of them.

Swedish Inspired Wedding at Scampston Hall

August 22, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Swedish-Inspired-Wedding-at-Scampston-Hall (29 of 40)

Wishing to create a wedding that incorporated their different heritages, Fina and Max decided on an English wedding with Swedish influences. The grand, historic architecture of Scampston Hall, vintage cars, and tons of greenery created a romantic atmosphere for this couple to tie the knot. Natural light spread throughout the outdoor reception, allowing guests to marvel at the beautiful surroundings. Neil Jackson Photographic perfectly captured this exquisite wedding in England.

The Couple:

Fina and Max

The Wedding:

Scampston Hall, Malton, England

The Inspiration:

It was important to us to get married in a location that meant something to us. Since we come from different countries, me being Swedish and Max being brought up in North Yorkshire, it was a little difficult to decide on the location at first. I always had a wish to get married outside, in a beautiful garden, but this isn’t very easy in England. Max‘s wish was for a homemade, relaxed countryside wedding. We decided that a quaint rustic English wedding with Swedish influences would be ideal. The colour theme of mint and brown came from Max‘s favourite ice cream, mint chocolate chip and my love for mint green shades.

The Moments:

My favourite part of the day was when I walked down the aisle with Max and his eyes said it all. They were full of love and a calm came over me. I was overwhelmed with emotions and Max‘s vows made me cry. I loved every minute of our day, it was unforgettable and almost surreal. All the planning had come together into such a spectacular party with all our friends and family and we felt so blessed to be able to celebrate our marriage this way. I didn’t want the day to end. If I were to do it all again, I wouldn’t do a single thing differently!

The Couple Recommends:

For us, I think the rings were the most important part of our whole wedding and the one thing that was given the most thought and attention. We felt that the rings are what you mark the vows and the promises you make to each other with, and is the most cherished item you keep after the wedding. We wanted them to be really personal and thoughtful, so we had them custom made. All three rings were made by the lovely Jo Lavelle. We had endless discussions about shape, cuts, type of metal, size and thickness and the meaning behind the rings. Both me and Max loved the idea of using old family jewellery and had the idea of symbolising the union of two families by combining our parents old wedding rings. Jo captured our philosophy and thoughts perfectly, and is a lovely artist to work with.

Our photographer was Neil Jackson from Neil Jackson Photographic. Neil was great and everything we could have wished for. The style and lighting of his photos were just what we were after and he captured every little detail of our day perfectly. He was everywhere without being seen and was extremely professional. We were so lucky to have found him.

Stunning and Timeless Wilkes-Barre Wedding

August 21, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Stunning-and-Timeless-Wilkes-Barre-Wedding (33 of 42)

Probably one of the sweetest first looks we’ve ever seen, when Stephanie met Kanayo at the alter, he was overwhelmed with emotion. The bride wore a classically white, strapless gown that resembled the classic feel of the historic courthouse. White linen and ivory rose petals dressed the venue creating an elegant and simple design that was timeless and romantic. Photographer Douglas Polle did an amazing job of capturing the authentic moments shared by the couple. After the ceremony, the couple headed to Ruth’s Chris to celebrate the exciting new journey to come!

The Couple:

Stephanie and Kanayo

The Wedding:

Ruth’s Chris, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania

The Inspiration:

Ultimately we wanted something classic and timeless that would be complimented by the style of our wedding photographer.
