Rustic Swedish Wedding at Blase Kalkbruksmuseum

October 24, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Rustic-Swedish-Wedding-at-Bläse-Kalkbruksmuseum (25 of 27)

After the sweetest proposal on Gotland Island, where Oskar spelled out the question with sticks and stones from the rocky beach, Linnea and Oskar knew there would be no place more special to tie the knot. The stone walls and historic architecture of Bläse Kalkbruksmuseum in Lärbro, Sweden offered an enchanting atmosphere for this fairy tale wedding. Talented photographer Loke Roos documented the moments and details beautifully.

The Couple:

Linnea and Oskar

The Wedding:

Bläse Kalkbruksmuseum, Lärbro, Sweden

The Inspiration:

We wanted the theme of the wedding to mirror the landscape, architecture and environments on Gotland, which has a very barren feel with muted cool colors, but also lots of flowers and a very rustic feel. The decorations and our clothes was designed to match and meld into these remote places, and old storage house for the ceremony and a large lime stone barn for the dinner. Most importantly was that we recognized ourselves and didn’t feel like we were dressing up in costumes.

The Moments:

We loved all the small moments we got for ourselves between all the events. Our favorite one of these is just before the ceremony. We were hiding behind some trees out of sight from the arriving guests, feeling a bit jittery with anticipation for every thing to start as well as waiting for the wedding bouquet that we had forgotten at the house where we got prepared (whoops!). We both felt a “pinch me in the arm” moment and reminded each other that now was the moment.

The Couple Recommends:

Our photographer Loke was great. We hardly notice him during the day, still pictures turned out fantastic. The moments we did engaged with him, he was very easy going and made us feel comfortable. Our floral supplier Christoffers blommor satisfied us with quick response, understanding for our ideas and needs and good advices.

Vintage Los Angeles Wedding at the Carondelet House

October 24, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Vintage-Los-Angeles-Wedding-at-the-Carondelet-House (21 of 34)

After selecting the Carondelet House in Los Angeles, California, Andrew and Patricia, with the help of their amazing planners at Splendor and Bliss, chose décor pieces that would only accentuate the cozy atmosphere of the venue. Weathered red brick walls, lush ivory florals, and rustic wooden tables created a romantic, close-nit design that was perfect for their intimate wedding. Studio Castillero photographed the big day beautifully!

The Couple:

Andrew and Patricia

The Wedding:

Carondelet House, Los Angeles, California

The Inspiration:

Andrew and I knew we wanted a intimate and simple wedding, to celebrate with our closest family and friends. I have always loved everything vintage, so I made sure to thrift for my own vintage trunks, love poems and books, and décor pieces. Carondelet was just the perfect venue, since it felt like we were celebrating in our own home! I also wanted to make sure that my bridesmaids picked their own dresses. Each of them are so unique and special in their own way, and it was important for me to let them express that. The main colors were different hues of blues, gold, grey with light touches of pink to soften it all. As far as my dress, I just knew since I was a girl that my gowns needed to be lace. It all tied together to have a very romantic-vintage theme.

The Moments:

Patricia: EVERY SECOND OF IT! I was just overwhelmed with such love and happiness the whole time. To be able to share such a big part of your life with your closest family and friends, meant the world to me. But a huge, special moment for me, was being able to surprise my mom with her birthday cake. Her birthday was the day after our wedding, and I wanted her to know that through it all, she is my best friend and I wanted to thank her for being such an amazing mother. She has taught me so much in life, and I am eternally grateful.

Andrew: Our wedding vows. It wouldn’t be a wedding without our vows, and those are the words we will live by until the end.

The Couple Recommends:

A BIG shout out to our photographers, Megan and Brent. We couldn’t have asked for a better pair to document our day. Not only are they so talented, but such great people to be around. They did such an amazing job of capturing all the special moments during our engagement session, and the wedding day. Probably two of the nicest people I have ever met in my life, and such a darling couple themselves! They embody so much love and fun, it felt like they were guests partying right next to us. Also want to say a BIG THANKS to our wedding planners, Kelly and Judith! They made sure that we were on track during the planning process, and provided such great advice and suggestions. Couldn’t have done this without them!

Family Style Wedding on the Beach at Andaz Maui

October 23, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Family-Style-Wedding-on-the-Beach-at-Andaz-Maui-Anna-Kim-Photography-421

Palm trees swaying in the breeze, island music playing in the distance, tying the knot in an emotional waterfront ceremony; Zach and Nik’s Andaz Maui wedding was everything they dreamed. The grooms were inspired by a farm-to-table style dinner, which resulting in a family style reception organized by Opihi Love with long, wooden tables adorned in gold, green, and blue. We love that the grooms decided on a subtle Hawaiian flair for their wedding day fashion, wearing linen blazers and floral ties. Before joining their guests for dinner, Anna Kim Photography captured sunset portraits of the newlyweds embracing on the shore.

The Couple:

Zach and Nik

The Wedding:

Andaz Maui, Maui, Hawaii

The Inspiration:

One of our biggest inspirations was a farm dinner that the two of us attended a few years ago, which was hosted by an incredible organization called Outstanding in the Field. In addition to advocating for hyper local, farm-to-table fare (as well as the farmers who grow it), one of the ideas for which OITF has become known is their long, communal dining tables, which are amazingly picturesque and often set in the middle of a field, among the trees in an orchard, or even right on the beach. We knew we had to borrow this idea for our wedding reception, as it was really important to us that we foster a sense of community as we celebrated with all of our friends and family. We wanted our guests to feel almost like they were sitting at our dining table in our home — just with a better view. For that reason, we also served dinner family style, which was a really fun touch.

Design-wise, we were looking to do something that celebrated our beautiful Hawaiian setting, while also incorporating the sensibility of our hometown in Santa Monica, CA. One of the first concepts we ever threw around with our designer, Melissa Padilla of Opihi Love, was “Venice Beach meets Maui.” Melissa was the perfect designer to implement this vision. Even before talking with her, we were struck by her portfolio of weddings, all of which managed to seamlessly combine vintage elements with more modern touches. We think she nailed the motif we were looking for.

The Moments:

Although the entire wedding was truly memorable, the best moment was the exchange of vows, which we wrote ourselves. There was not a dry eye to be found anywhere.

The Couple Recommends:

We are indebted to all of our phenomenal vendors. Of course we can’t say enough about Melissa Padilla of Opihi Love, who is hands down one of the best and most creative designers anywhere. She made our dream wedding a reality (and became a close friend in the process).

Our incredible flowers were done by Bella Bloom. Nicole, the owner, completely understood what we were going for — something more masculine and understated — and she and her team absolutely nailed our aesthetic. We loved everything they did — from the tropical greenery on our driftwood chuppah, to the unique succulent arrangements on our dining table, to the individual thistles at every place setting.

Barbara Vanderpool of Miss B. Calligraphy was, as we mentioned above, simply spectacular; we are still receiving compliments from our guests about her work!

Anna and Jessica of Anna Kim Photography were an absolute delight to work with, and our photos are friggin’ amazing! We still can’t believe they are real.

Our venue — the Andaz Maui at Wailea — was the perfect setting for our event (the design aesthetic there is awesome and totally in line with what we were going for), and we are very grateful to Melissa Woodley and her team for their assistance throughout the whole process. The food was also superb (seriously, best wedding food we’ve ever had!), as were the drinks. And, as a couple who LOVES cake, we couldn’t have been happier with our wedding cakes, which were all made in house by the Andaz pasty chef, Erin Preston.

The Wedding Team:

Photography – Anna Kim Photography
Event Planning – Opihi Love
Venue – Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort
Floral Design – Bella Bloom
Grooms’ Apparel – Ted Baker, Banana Republic
Grooms’ Accessories – SuitedMan
Rings – David Yurman

Congratulations to Nik and Zach on their destination wedding in Hawaii, and thanks to Anna Kim Photography for sharing! If you love Zach and Nik’s venue, be sure to check out Michelle and Kenny’s pastel beach wedding at Andaz Maui!
