This amber-lit forest in Granville, Ohio might just be our new favorite spot for couples with an affinity for all things alternative to say “I do.” Photographers The Portos designed this alternative Ohio wedding inspiration shoot to prove that edgy can be totally pretty, and from the fresh bouquet by Village Flower Basket to the bride’s soft pink hair, we couldn’t agree more. If you’re seeking rock and roll bride and groom style inspiration for your own wedding celebration, you won’t need to look any further than this well-dressed couple!
A big thanks to The Portos for sharing this alternative Ohio wedding inspiration with Junebug! For more alternative wedding inspiration, check out Julia and Kirill’s offbeat Brooklyn Bridge Park wedding.
Paige was the bohemian bride of Blake’s dreams on their wedding day at The Rustic Rose Barn in Iowa, wearing an elegant Stella York gown and sweet floral crown. After saying “I do,” the newlyweds enjoyed their first moments as husband and wife accompanied by a herd of horses, who we’re sure wished them a happily ever after! Photographer Amanda Basteen documented every detail around the farm wedding, including a delicious dessert bar, natural wood elements, and a lantern send-off into the dark night sky.
Our wedding day fashion was more casual, but still elegant and pretty. I let my hair down, loose and curly with a flower crown instead of a veil. My dress was a blush color with ivory lace details and a beautiful train. I loved how different it was, but simple. It didn’t need a thousand sparkles or sash or anything, I just loved it right away. Since I was wearing a flower crown already, I just did little diamond earrings and a necklace that Blake gave me that day as a gift.
We definitely chose our photographer first before planning anything really, because that was what was most important to us. We wanted someone different and unique. So many wedding photographers have similar styles and they look great, but we liked the more artistic style that Amanda Basteen uses. She really tells a story of the day, and captured the little intimate moments that were special. I think picking the right photographer is most important in planning your wedding because those are the things you can look back on years from now and remember.
We chose to go with a mixture of boho and romantic style. I wanted the loose, natural, earthy feel of the Bohemian style juxtaposed with our romantic barn venue. We had cascading flowers, lighted trees, tree slab centerpieces, and lots of little things like that. Which made an amazing vibe when paired with romantic twinkle lights everywhere, candles, and of course a beautiful chandelier over the dance floor!
For our favors we made painted rocks. They were super cute and fun to make; everyone loved them!
There were so many, the day really does go by so fast! Our most memorable moment though was our first dance. Our cocktail hour was outside the barn; Being that it was October, nearly everyone was inside keeping warm though. So Blake and I just went with it! We had our first dance alone outside as the sun was setting. It was beautiful, magical, and by far the best, unexpected memory. Our singer, Zach Freedom, sang us our first song. He had written it for us, about how we met and fell in love, which made it even more special.
Mónica and Martje, who live in Germany, chose to have a destination wedding in sunny Portugal. Since they were inviting friends and family who would travel a long way, they planned a 3-day wedding event. Palácio de Estoi in Faro, Portugal offered a beautiful location with enough space for all their guests. Elegant fixtures, white and lavender florals, and a balloon send-off made Mónica and Martje’s wedding in Portugal one to remember. Passionate Wedding perfectly captured the extravagant setting and beautiful moments.
From the couple: We wanted a romantic and chic venue, where different areas were available to be used during the three days. So we have decided for a neo-Baroque and neo-Rococo palace which is now a boutique hotel, with two tea pavilions and wonderful French-inspired gardens adorned with many statues.
