Earthy Nevada Wedding in the Woods

Having both grown up in Reno, Nevada, and spending countless days in the mountains by Lake Tahoe, Vanessa and Aaron knew that a wedding in the woods would be perfect for their Nevada wedding. They also wanted to utilize their friends and families’ talent on their big day. Lucky for them, their family friend let them transform his home, which has views of the Washoe Valley, into their dream wedding venue. Sticking with an earthy vibe, the couple incorporated as much moss, pine cones, and wooden decor as possible. Vanessa and Aaron were also fortunate to have photographer friends, Anna and Andrew of Deer Lovers, who captured all the sweet moments from their wedding.

My favorite moment was definitely the ceremony. Last minute we decided to have a candle ceremony so we could include our moms and it was such a sweet touch. Both moms lit a candle and then Aaron and I took those candles and lit one big candle as a symbol of our families joining together.

We knew a wedding in the woods surrounded by nature and the giant pines was completely “us.” We got incredibly lucky when a family friend said we could use his house for our wedding. It was perfectly nestled deep in the woods on the edge of a mountain outside of Tahoe and had a huge balcony where we could host all of our guests with a view of Washoe Valley. It was perfect!

Since we knew having a wedding in the woods was what we were after we worked on incorporating a lot of pine cones, moss and hand drawn signage on stained wood pieces. As a centerpiece on each of the tables we had birch wood and copper candle holders with succulents and to add some fun we put Polaroid cameras on each table so we could get photos from our guests perspective.

The most important part in planning our wedding was utilizing a lot our of friends and family and letting them do their thing for our big day. Almost all of the vendors we used were our friends which made it all the more intimate and amazing!

Exceptionally Elegant Pennsylvania Wedding at Crossing Vineyards

May 7, 2016 | editorial team

Thomas and David wanted their Crossing Vineyards wedding to tell a story – they wanted the designs and decorations to be romantic and flowing. Heart & Dash helped bring their dream summer garden party to life. After saying “I do” outside just before the rain began, the couple’s guests were treated to a reception decorated with twinkling lights, navy taper candles in gold vintage holders, vintage books, plush couches, and even a custom scent station telling Thomas and David’s love story. They also gave out handmade, custom designed fragrances as favors for their family and friends.

We were first inspired by the intimate effect of lighting in the movie ‘A Walk in the Clouds’. We wanted to capture the candlelit conversations and sunlit fields in that movie at our vineyard wedding. We were very specific about all floral arrangements feeling natural in structure and color (green and white only) – nothing that couldn’t have grown in the area.

“Breaking the glass” is a Jewish tradition at the end of the wedding to symbolize the fragility of love and how we must nurture it every day. David broke the glass in Portugal, so it was my turn in Pennsylvania. When I finally broke the glass, we kissed and everyone yelled Mazel Tov! Literally at that very moment the first drop of rain came down. The rain waited for us to get through the entire ceremony. It was unbelievable.

The intimate photo shoot after the ceremony in the rain was the most memorable part because it felt like a release. The planning was over and now it was just the two of us and our love.

We actually had two weddings: one in Portugal and one in the US. We got married in a castle in Portugal in August. One month later in September, we wanted our Pennsylvania wedding to act as an intimate end of summer garden party.

We dreamed of huge room with twinkling, romantic lights. The room was ultimately lit with market string lights from above and navy taper candles in gold vintage holders on the tables. It was important for us to add surprise and delight wherever our guests might land. We found little trinkets, vintage books and magnifying glasses to add additional personality and warmth.

We decided to surprise our guests by changing before the reception. We wore show-stopping, complementary Tom Ford Evening Jackets and black Tom Ford Bow Ties. Putting on those jackets made us feel like stars and we knew we were ready to party the night away.

Our first dance was to our song: Bloodstream by Stateless. It was always fitting and emotional for us. The song is raw, intimate and romantic. We both get chills every time we hear it and stop to kiss each other regardless of what we are doing.

Enchanting DIY Wedding at Malibu Phoenix

May 7, 2016 | editorial team

Enchanting-DIY-Wedding-Malibu-Phoenix-17

Kelle and Weston said “I do” at Malibu Phoenix, a beautiful hidden estate in Latigo Canyon, well hidden in the hills of Malibu. Their main goal when planning their wedding was to focus on the lasting commitment they were making to one another. Their ceremony was small and intimate, but they opted for larger reception with all their family and friends. With the help of their families, Kelle and Weston transformed Kelle’s Uncle’s backyard into their dream venue: a DIY bar, wooden initial decorations, strands of white lights, and everyone that they love together in one place. Photographer Richard Cao was on-scene capturing all the fun and love from their big day.

The Couple:

Kelle and Weston

The Wedding:

Malibu Phoenix, Malibu, California

From the Groom: The most memorable part of the wedding for me was seeing Kelle come down the aisle. I didn’t expect to be so transfixed but with her walking toward me and the music playing, I was overwhelmed with happiness.

From the Bride: For me, the most memorable part of the wedding day was hearing the vows Weston had written for me! He put so much care and thought into every word. I will cherish those sentiments and the way he looked at me while he was saying them for the rest of my life.

Our main goal throughout the planning process was to keep things stress free. We dated for almost eight years before getting married, so we wanted our wedding day to be focused on our relationship and the commitment we were making, not necessarily on lots of guests, or the details of the party.

Our whole reception was pretty much a giant DIY project since we pieced the whole thing together in the backyard. Kelle’s mom made our incredible cake. Her dad made our entire bar out of pallets! He also made our wooden initials, hung the lights, made our table numbers, and he and Kelle worked together on the hanging, wooden seating chart. It was definitely a family affair.

We had our reception in Kelle’s uncle’s backyard. The house was formerly owned by her grandparents. It’s the home where her mom grew up and where Kelle spent many afternoons as a child, playing with cousins and spending time with her grandparents. It was super cool to be able to make one of life’s greatest memories in a place that already means so much.
