Scenic British Columbia Wedding at God’s Mountain Estate

Melissa and Rob had previously stayed at God’s Mountain Estate, an upscale B&B that sits on the edge of Skaha Lake, so they knew it would be the perfect place for their British Columbia Wedding. They especially loved the estate’s European-infused style and the acres of plus green land surrounding it. They aimed to keep their wedding as much like a big family dinner in Europe as possible, with their guests seated at long tables during the family-style dinner while enjoying great food and wine. Tomasz Wagner Photo & Films captured every moment from Melissa and Rob’s elegant and timeless affair, and he captured some great portraits of the couple just as the sun began to set.

We stayed at God’s Mountain the summer previous for my other company, The Perfect Hideaway, and fell in love. It had the European feel we adore and it also has 14 bedrooms, which meant that our closest friends and family could stay there with us.

I left the dress until the month before, deciding to have something custom made from Cache Atelier, drawing inspiration from a French designer I loved. I wanted it to be simple, but it also had to be somewhat practical, as I had a 6 month old son! I wanted my overall look to be special, but I also wanted to feel like me, so I kept the makeup light and my hair simple.

Having photographed at least a hundred weddings, I was quite specific about what I wanted (and didn’t want). Luckily, Rob was in agreement with it all. Essentially, we wanted a celebration that felt like a big family dinner in Europe. We wanted a long table, family style dinner with great food and wine. We wanted it to be elegant and timeless, yet fun and casual.

We added a lot of slightly unconventional elements to our ceremony. Rob walked down the aisle with our son, Max, and handed him to my mother to hold. I had my both my father and step-father walk me down the aisle. We had a friend of ours, Mark, officiate the wedding. We also re-wrote most of the ceremony with our personal vows.

We didn’t have a particular wedding color, we just wanted everything neutral to highlight the spectacular setting. For the tabletops, we used tan/grey linens with white pillar candles and silvery green foliage with white loose blooms laid on the tabletops. The venue is so spectacular, we wanted to keep it as simple as possible.

Being a really dry summer, there were lots of fires burning, and an especially large one just south of Penticton. The morning of the wedding was clear, and it wasn’t until just after the ceremony that the winds shifted and the smoke arrived in full force. Luckily everyone got to enjoy the spectacular lake and vineyard views during the ceremony and cocktail hour, because during the dinner, it was completely socked in.

This West Palm Beach Engagement Has Stars, Stripes, and Lots of Love

This West Palm Beach engagement shoot is sweet for so many reasons. Abbey and Charlie certainly have a lot to celebrate these days – they just got engaged, and Abbey just became a US citizen. Right after her citizenship became official, the couple took to the streets of West Palm Beach to pose for some fun and full of love engagement photos taken by Concept Photography! Being completely patriotic and adorable, they brought along some flag balloons and wandered around the coolest artsy neighborhood, making sure to get portraits in front of all the colorful murals lining the buildings.

Colorful Festival-Inspired Wedding in Portugal

May 26, 2016 | editorial team

Colorful-Festival-Inspired-Wedding-Portugal-48

Kristal and Dish wanted their wedding in Portugal to be the perfect party for all their family and friends, because they knew that moments where everyone they love is together in one place are few and far between. So when planning, they made sure to think about every single detail to give their loved ones a celebration worth remembering. They gave themselves the couple name “Dishtal,” and they also came up with a festival/ wedding hybrid called a Wedstival. André of Brancoprata captured all the sweet moments from Kristal and Dish’s big day, and it was definitely a Wedstival unlike any other!

The Wedding:

I wanted to add something of my culture to my look and wore my stunning earrings that my Mum gave me which are traditional jewelry from the north of Portugal. My hair was tamed from it’s usual fuzz ball and crowned with the most incredible flower crown. Sofia excelled with my massive flower crown. I was not expecting such a huge piece, but I loved it and wish I could wear it every day.

It was in the last boutique on my wedding dress hunt around London that I by chance came across Rue de Seine and immediately fell in love with my dress. It had that bohemian, relaxed fit that I love in clothes and it wasn’t your traditional wedding dress. It was me!

My inspirational and amazing friend Luke the Petit Prance, read the first reading at our wedding. There was a part of the reading which said the words ‘I do’. All of our Scottish friends from university and several of our other friends in the crowd shouted ‘I do’ together. Dish and I just looked at each other and at our mates with tears of happiness in our eyes. It was such a moving moment filled with smiles all round.

Every detail no matter how big or small was important to us. I kept saying to Dish if we are going to do this we are going to have a party to remember or else let’s just go and elope somewhere away from everything and one we know.

Being half Portuguese, family dinners were a big part of my childhood, so for me, the food at the wedding was a big deal. Dish being half Australian had his mind set on a BBQ. Finding a caterer in northern Portugal happy to include a BBQ as part of a wedding menu proved to be a lot more challenging than we thought, but Boketé Catering created the perfect menu for us! There were a lot of food comas and friends unable to dance because they had over indulged, but that for us was our perfect family meal.

We had the most amazing wedding stationery made by Lucy Says I Do. She accidentally made the kaleidoscope pattern on our invitations, which we ended up having printed on stubby coolers and a tea towel that we handed out to guests at the end of the evening. We had the date and Portugal printed in a Hand of Fatima which was the main image of our wedding stationery.

We had our perfect day! The Wedstival we had dreamt of! My biggest advice is to take a few minutes out of the day and to go with your partner somewhere in the venue where you don’t have a camera in your face, a relative or a guest. Spend some time together to reflect on the day because it goes by so fast and sometimes you just need to get away for a few minutes and take a deep breath and soak it all in.
