Naturally Beautiful Pioneer Farms Wedding in Warwick, New York

May 30, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

There’s nothing quite as fresh as farm weddings, and this gorgeous Pioneer Farms wedding in Warwick, New York is no exception! Jessica and Bill said “I do” among the farm’s rustic grounds, complete with bales of hay and free-roaming chickens. The couple made sure they felt extremely comfortable the whole day, which meant that they got ready together and included their dog in the festivities. We absolutely love how Jessica and Bill stayed true to their venue by emphasizing the farm’s natural color schemes and offering yummy local foods at their reception!

My dress was custom-made of faint gray chiffon with a pleated and twisted bodice and beaded cap sleeves. In my pocket (yes, it had pockets!) I carried a handkerchief my mom originally used to make my christening bonnet.

I did my own makeup as Bill showered and shaved. He helped me into my dress and I helped him fix his jacket and collar—it was just like any other time we’ve prepared for a party together. The familiarity and comfort of those rituals helped make the day stress-free and felt very true to us.

We were especially impressed by our photographer’s commitment to getting great shots for us. Since we were married at a venue he’d never visited before, he arrived early, scouted all of the grounds, and knew exactly where he wanted to get shots. Pat had a better handle on the grounds than even we did.

When we thought about our ideal wedding day we kept coming back to the same ideas—a relaxing day not tied to someone else’s schedule, an all-night party, the best food ever. And our dog, Otto, had to be there.

We found our venue, Pioneer Farm, while searching Airbnb for places to stay near my parents’ home in Warwick, New York. The juxtaposition of rustic and modern styling set on an idyllic property with rolling hills, beautiful gardens, and wooded trails was right up our alley.

We did not have a bridal party, but special guests wore either origami leaf boutonnieres in shades of green (for the men) or dried flowers that matched my bouquet (for the women).

Bill’s college roommate officiated the ceremony, reading a script we’d all written together, which made it incredibly special and specific to us and our relationship. Often the ceremony gets overlooked, but to us it was important to be wed with words that held meaning to us as individuals and a couple.

Our ceremony took place in a small section of Pioneer Farm encircled by trees. A mulberry tree, in which we’d hung a variety of Turkish lanterns, served as our ceremony backdrop.

Because we held our wedding away from our home of Wilmington, Delaware (and because pickles are one of my favorite foods!), we chose jars of craft pickles by Wilmington Pickling Company as our favors and a taste of home.

For the style of our wedding, we made a decision to forego creating too many vignettes or décor elements. Instead we kept everything understated and neutral so nothing would detract from the natural beauty of Pioneer Farm.

We didn’t hire a florist, but had friends and family cut fresh flowers—ivory and green hydrangeas, lilies, and pale purple butterfly bush sprigs—from the grounds of Pioneer Farm and place them in vases on dinner and cocktail tables.

Refusing to get caught up in unnecessary details and avoiding the need to overdo anything was one of the best things we did throughout planning. Instead, we focused on the things we and our guests would truly enjoy and remember—good food and an even better party.

Modern Cozy North Carolina Wedding at Yesterday Spaces

May 29, 2016 | editorial team

Modern-Cozy-North-Carolina-Wedding-Yesterday-Spaces-38

Amelia and Steve tied the knot at Yesterday Spaces, a 70-acre working family farm just outside of Asheville, North Carolina. The couple wanted their wedding to be something true to the nature of their relationship, so they designed a weekend experience that they knew their guests would enjoy. Photographers Brett & Jessica captured all the magic from Amelia and Steve’s big day, and Lucky Penny Creative helped to plan an evening that was equal parts modern, sophisticated, cozy, and straight up fun!

I told everyone that asked about my wedding fashion that I wanted to look like ‘Cate Blanchett going camping’. That was as close as we got to ‘style inspiration’. I chose a white Vionnet dress instead of a traditional wedding gown. Because it’s not a traditional wedding dress, I feel like I can wear it again.

We wanted something true to the nature of our relationship. Our backgrounds are in design and engineering (Amelia is an Experience Designer and Steve is a Software Engineer), so it was really important to us to design an experience that would be pleasant and enjoyable to our guests, while making sure every decision was an accurate reflection of who we are as a couple.

During the ceremony, we created a ‘plant ceremony’ where we planted two different plants into one pot. Similar to a ‘unity candle’ type ritual, but it was completely ours. We wrote our vows together and read them to each other. It was ours, and that made all the difference.

We wanted a beautiful outdoor space with the practicality of a backup plan and appropriate accommodations for our elderly family members. Yesterday Spaces provided these things and also guest housing for our wedding party.

The entire weekend was memorable — we provided housing for our wedding party, so it was really a dream come true to ‘live’ with all of our best friends for a few days! The day of the wedding was wonderful — and the most memorable parts came accompanied to music!

DIY Downtown Chicago Wedding at City View Loft

May 29, 2016 | editorial team

DIY-Downtown-Chicago-Wedding-City-View-Loft-44

When Bridget and Dan said “I do” at City View Loft in downtown Chicago, the most important thing to them was to make sure that their loved ones felt welcomed and ready to laugh. They wanted to truly celebrate the community of friends and family they felt so blessed to have, so they included as many people as possible in the ceremony planning as well as the decorating of the loft. During the ceremony, both Bridget and Dan said there was so much positive energy, and the whole room erupted into cheers when they were pronounced husband and wife. Megan Saul Photography got in on all the fun, and she captured every sweet moment from Bridget and Dan’s big day – starting with their first look and ending with a big group dance to Beyoncé during the final song of the night.

We tried to plan the day so our loved ones felt welcomed and ready to laugh. Our dear friend officiated the ceremony, two friends performed a reading, friends sang us down the aisle, our invitations, table numbers, welcome sign and hanging menu for the reception were all made with love by friends and family.

We wrote our ceremony with our dear friend, Chris who officiated the wedding. We took inspiration from readings we loved, advice on the internet, and always trying to keep a sense of humor. Two of our friends read an excerpt from the children’s book “I Like You” by Sandol Stoddard Warburg. We had a ring warming during the ceremony where we passed our rings through the rows of our guests so they can take a moment to send us some good vibes or prayers for our marriage. It was a time for us to step back and see all the people who helped get us to this place in our relationship.

From the Groom: Right before Chris announced us as married, everyone erupted into cheers and started using the noisemakers we placed on their seats. They were intended for after the kiss, but everyone just went for it. Plus, I got to marry B, that was pretty memorable.

Almost all of the decor was DIY made by myself or made by talented friends and family. My favorite piece was what held the rings during the ring warming ceremony. It was made from a cigar box, fabric scraps, and ribbon. The cigar box was my father’s who passed away unexpectedly a few months before we were engaged.

The ceremony was filled with so much energy. I’ve never experienced all that love in one room before. Everyone was so happy! Also, during the last dance we ending up being engulfed in a big group hug by everyone on the dance floor while we sang along to Beyonce. It was perfect!
