Botanical Belfast Wedding at Deanes at Queens

August 1, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

Maura and Paddy’s Irish wedding was full of gorgeous florals and stunning bridal style! Maura’s Rime Arodaky flowing tulle gown had contemporary lace cut-outs that balanced her timelessly romantic flower crown. From the pew markers to the huge flower wall at Deanes at Queens, we love how every inch of this Ireland wedding was decked out in showstopping botanicals. Chris Copeland Photography captured the couple’s special day beautifully, including amazing shots of the sophisticated reception hall décor!

We wanted a relaxed day with all our friends and family, making sure we had time to spend with everyone. We didn’t want to be away from all the fun for the photos which Chris our photographer managed perfectly. We ended up with a fabulous party, great music, a packed dancefloor and enough happy memories to last a lifetime.

I really enjoyed the whole process of finding the dress, it was such a fab excuse to have lovely days out with my mum & bridesmaids. I loved the elegance of my Rime Arodaky dress and the silhouette created by the flowing tulle fabric. The lace appliqued detail really made the dress.

I knew I wanted a flower crown – probably inspired by the fact that I loved wearing one so much on my first holy communion day! Every girl should get to wear a flower crown, I never wanted to take it off – it was just so beautiful.

From Paddy: There are so many favorite moments. From being at the church to greet everyone, to Maura walking up the aisle, to the evening when all formalities were done and the last order of the day was to party! The dance floor was packed from the minute our first dance ended.

botanical-belfast-wedding-deanes-queens-17

I always envisioned my wedding day being full of beautiful flowers and thankfully Janet from the flower room made this come true. Walking into the church and seeing our church filled with the most incredible flowers was really a wow moment!

From Maura: I absolutely loved the whole day. I’ll always remember that feeling I had when walking up the aisle with my dad, I was just so excited to be seeing all our friends & family and of course Paddy. It is really so lovely to see everyone that you love so happy for us both.

Deanes at Queens was the only place we looked at and we absolutely loved it- the food, the light, the space – it was perfect! We were able to have the most relaxed day as the staff looked after every little detail. The food was incredible, the service impeccable and the mojitos seemed never ending!

All it took was a coffee with Chris for him to understand the sort of couple we are and what sort of vibe we had planned for the wedding day. He was able to fade into the background snapping away the magic of the day but always at hand if we wanted a particular shot. We loved that he was able to capture the emotion of the day. His photos allow us to relive the memories and feelings of the day, so we will always be able to remember how we felt on the day.

This Georgia Garden Party Wedding is a Vintage-Lover’s Dream Come True

July 31, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

this-georgia-garden-party-wedding-is-a-vintage-lovers-dream-come-true-36

We can not get enough of the vintage details in Clare and Alex’s garden party wedding! The couple honored their Australian, New Zealand, and Martha’s Vineyard roots by incorporating florals, décor, and dinner items native to all three locales in their Georgia wedding. After the wedding guests attended two spectacular ceremonies to represent the families’ two faiths, they were treated to a vintage garden reception complete with amazing DIY projects and personalized signature scents for each guest. Jason Hales Photography beautifully captured every detail of the couple’s special day, including Clare’s John Singer Sargeant inspired bridal look!

The Couple:

Clare and Alex

The Wedding:

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart & Private Residence, Atlanta, Georgia

this-georgia-garden-party-wedding-is-a-vintage-lovers-dream-come-true-1

The most important thing about our wedding was that it reflected who we are and where we came from. I’m of an Australian & New Zealand background through my mum and dad, and Alex‘s family home is on Martha’s Vineyard, so we wanted the decor and stationery to reflect those places. We incorporated lots of eucalyptus (from Australia) and green fern (from New Zealand) and blueberries & hummingbirds, which are all over the Vineyard.

The bridesmaids wore mismatched floral dresses, which they picked the pattern of, and the bridesmates (my 2 male bridal party members) found lovely floral bowties with matching pocket squares! They also all ended up wearing different gemstone necklaces & cufflinks that were gifts from me the day before.

this-georgia-garden-party-wedding-is-a-vintage-lovers-dream-come-true-18

I wanted my dress to be elegant & romantic, but whimsical and a little unpredictable. I think I tried on just about every dress ever made trying to find the one! I ended up going bespoke, with a sand-washed silk satin dress with a corset base. The draping and sashes on it were just heavenly, I felt like a John Singer Sargent painting. The satin was so lusciously soft too–it was so comfortable! We also dip-dyed the end of the sashes and end of my train a blush pink, for that bit of whimsy.

We decided early on that friends and family members wanting to be involved could take care of one aspect of the wedding that was important to them, and it was important to us that everyone felt apart of this day, which was also about them. My dad did the invitation suite, for example, as his background is in branding & advertising, and he’s an incredibly creative & visual person–everyone was totally blown away by how beautiful the invites were!

this-georgia-garden-party-wedding-is-a-vintage-lovers-dream-come-true-4

this-georgia-garden-party-wedding-is-a-vintage-lovers-dream-come-true-21

We wanted both our families to feel this day was also about them coming together as one family. We also come from families of two faiths–Catholic & Jewish–and we wanted our marriage to be officiated in both religions. So we had a Catholic ceremony in the Basilica in Atlanta where I was baptized, and then had a Jewish ceremony under a chuppah built into a tree in the garden of our reception venue.

Before our Jewish Ceremony outside in the garden, where all the guests were uncovered, the sky suddenly went from sunny to dark grey with rolling thunder. It lasted for the first 10 minutes of the ceremony–Alex, the Rabbi, and I were pretty nervous it would pour at any second! But in the middle of our Rabbi’s speech about the two of us, the clouds parted and the most beautiful sunshine came down. Everybody laughed with relief, and it was this incredible moment, it felt like a real blessing.

Originally we wanted to have the reception in the garden of my family home, but it wasn’t quite structurally sound to host a dance floor and tables. So family friends of ours with this stunning Italian-style garden & courtyard offered to have it at theirs! It was so generous and amazing of them, and it was the perfect setting for the kind of romantic & natural feel we wanted to create.

garden party wedding

We worked with Arylessence, a brilliant fragrance company my dad works with, to create two signature scents that reflected Alex and I individually. The ‘Alex‘ male fragrance was spicy, with ginger and sandalwood–like a Vineyard beach bonfire. The ‘Clare‘ female fragrance was heavy magnolia, with peach & neroli–nicknamed ‘Georgia Secret Garden’. The guests each had one waiting for them at their seat. We have guests asking us months later how they can get some more!

We are both actors with big imaginations and love being outside, so we knew we wanted to create a magical, natural, and lush environment. Sort of A Midsummer Night’s Dream meets Big Fish meets Secret Garden (with a little Anthropologie catalogue thrown in).

Find the Height of Woodland Elegance in this Robinswood House Wedding

July 31, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

find-the-height-of-woodland-elegance-in-this-robinswood-house-wedding-43

Having just moved from Texas to Seattle, Christina and Paul fully embraced their new Pacific Northwest digs in this lovely woodland wedding! The couple incorporated whimsical wedding details like hand-foraged ferns, scattered framed images of forest animals, and a working typewriter for their guests to document their well wishes for the newlyweds. Christina wore a sequined Sarah Seven top with a billowing tulle skirt from BHLDN for a perfectly contemporary bridal look, and Paul kept it cool and casual with a patterned button-up and brown leather boots. We love how photographer Jess Hunter captured the couple’s gorgeous day at Robinswood House and all of its forested details!

We wanted the substance of our wedding to be reflected through the style. Our wedding marked a significant period of transition. We had just moved from Texas to Seattle and were eager to move from engagement to a forever promise. We wanted our guests to enjoy the breathtaking ambience of the Pacific Northwest and have a fun, laid back night with friends, food, and dancing! Paul and I decidedly wanted to be involved in the details to reflect our personalities and make the wedding our own.

find-the-height-of-woodland-elegance-in-this-robinswood-house-wedding-22

We wanted our wedding to have a whimsical, forest theme. The nature of the Pacific Northwest is distinct and non-uniform, which led us to incorporate unique details involving elements of nature (ie mismatched wooden chairs). We also wanted people to feel relaxed since we enjoy watching our family and friends feast.

We unanimously agree that the communion portion of our ceremony was the most memorable moment of the day. We had dedicated a small space under a tree for our close friends to set up a small wooden table with a cup of juice and a loaf of Macrina bread (our local favorite). While our friends and family sang gospel hymns behind us, we celebrated the interweaving narratives in our marriage by taking communion together. There was a moment where the weight of forever promise beautifully weighed on us. We tearfully embraced each other and prayed a prayer of deep dependence for grace.

Keeping perspective throughout the process was key for us. Wedding planning was a fun process, but at times stressful. Budget is a practical constraint, so we picked out aspects of the wedding that were a priority for us. Ultimately, the wedding is one day to celebrate with your closest people, but marriage is the life-team deal – so enjoy the planning experience together (both delicious food samplings and vendor emails…) and don’t get too caught up in managing every detail!
