Malibu Garden Wedding at Stone Manor Private Estate – Details Event Planning

April 24, 2012 | editorial team

Today’s Malibu wedding is the epitome of garden elegance! When Catherine and Cédric asked planner extraordinaire Lisa Gorjestani of Details Event Planning to help create an amazing day at the stunning Stone Manor in Malibu, they’d struck gold. I love all of the unique touches, floral designs with fresh succulents, and fancy signature cocktails inspired by the setting that were captured by Katie Robertson Photography.

What three adjectives best describe your wedding day? Elegant, relaxed and fun.

Was there a decor theme that ran through your wedding? What was the inspiration for that particular idea and how did it reflect you as a couple? We wanted to keep everything simple and elegant with the main focus on the food and good company. Birdcages were central pieces of our decor theme. We featured them as centerpieces at the dining tables and also scattered them throughout the grounds for decoration. Our favorite way to display them was to suspend them up in the trees and light them up at night by candle. They really provided a gorgeous backdrop for our reception.

What were some of the different ways you used decor elements to create the beautiful, cohesive event you were envisioning? A lot of the decor elements stemmed from the location itself. Our color palette was a combination of white and grey with hints of green and purple.

Where did you choose to hold your wedding, and how did the location influence your decor decisions? The location of our wedding was at Stone Manor, which is a beautiful private estate tucked away in the hills of Malibu. It has such a wonderful majestic feel that we let dictate everything else. The owners do a wonderful job of maintaining the grounds and gardens, so we didn’t feel the need to add much decor. We were inspired by the many succulent plants all over the property and incorporated them into our floral design.

Looking back, do you have a favorite project or successful decor idea from your wedding? During our cocktail hour we featured signature cocktails for which we still receive compliments. The greatest hit was the St. Germain Champagne Cocktail, which is champagne topped with a splash of Elderflower liqueur. The cocktail was garnished with a gardenia flower and a few specks of gold, it smelled and tasted like heaven!
