Why book?

Vasilis Liappis is an Athens-based photographer who has spent over a decade shooting weddings and elopements across the Greek islands, from Santorini and Mykonos to lesser-known spots like Tinos and Karpathos. His images are classic and timeless, the kind that don't date themselves, and his documentary approach means the moments in them are real rather than reconstructed. What couples consistently mention beyond the photos themselves is how he shows up: genuinely invested, the kind of person who coordinates a jeep to a secluded spot for a sunrise shoot because it's the right call, not because anyone asked. He shoots both digital and film, and the experience tends to feel less like hiring a vendor and more like spending the day with a friend who happened to bring a camera.

Q&A

Couples hire you because…
They don't want to spend their wedding day posing. Most of the couples I work with have never stood in front of a camera before, and making them feel at ease is my superpower. Within the first few minutes they stop noticing me, and that's when the real photographs begin. They also hire me because I'm Greek and I know the islands well. I know where the light falls at sunset and how to work around the wind. I know which quiet corners stay empty even in August.
What is your specialty or personal style?
Weddings and elopements across the Greek islands, photographed as they actually happen. I don't direct couples through a list of poses. I stay close, watch, and give a little guidance only when it helps. The look is quiet and cinematic, with natural colour, and every gallery includes black-and-white edits for the moments where emotion matters more than the setting. For couples who love its texture, I also shoot 35mm film as an add-on.
What part of your business are you best at?
Being a calm presence on the day. Destination weddings come with long travel, wind, heat and tight timelines, and couples need someone who keeps things relaxed. I help plan the timeline around the best light, I suggest locations, and I work easily with planners and venues. On the day, my job is to make sure the two of you can simply be there, while I take care of the rest.
What is your communication style?
Warm, direct and honest. When you first get in touch, I'll send my pricing guide and a link to book a short video call, because a conversation tells us more than a long email chain. From there I keep things simple: clear answers, honest advice on locations and timing (even when it's not what you expected to hear), and no pressure. Before the wedding we plan the timeline together around the light, so on the day there are no surprises, just the two of you and a calm, familiar face.
