Blair and Emmanuel’s colorful wedding in Louisiana will have you thinking that nothing beats a backyard wedding. The couple enlisted the help of their family and friends to turn Blair’s parents’ home into an artsy and fun backyard celebration. They kept the atmosphere relaxed and playful for their guests, choosing a a lawn game theme. They DIYed all of the decorations and signs, a life-size Jenga game, a bottle cap checkers game, a photo booth frame wall, and so many other crafts and details. Though they loved every minute of their reception, they also wanted to remain focused on the sacrament of Holy Matrimony, and Jen Menard Photography was in attendence to snap a picture of the couple saying “I do” to one another.

What was most important for us when planning our wedding was being able, the day of, to focus on the Sacrament of Matrimony! We also wanted our wedding to be personalized and for the atmosphere to be relaxed, intimate, and fun! These different goals shaped virtually all of our planning!

For my processional song I asked our pianist to learn and play a song my husband wrote many years ago. It was a very special moment in our ceremony and I loved surprising him with it!

My sister and brother-in-law made a 20-foot-long garland of felt flowers and all of our signs, and my brother made amazing wooden crates from recycled pallet wood. We designed our invitations, programs, and maps. We made, with our families’ help, a life-sized Jenga game, a bottle cap Checkers game, a full size tee-pee, lace bunting flags, pew markers, a tree stump cake stand, as well as so many other crafts and details!

We wanted the day to be personal, artsy, and fun! We added personal touches by making and hand picking our decorations and we decided to have a lawn game theme for our reception to create a fun and relaxed atmosphere for all our guests!

  1. Simplicity wins! Beautiful couple, beautiful event, and the video of the wedding and the choice of music was especially moving. Bravo to the videographer and congratulations to the nice couple.
