Sophisticated Wedding in Doonbeg, Ireland

Blaire and Gordon’s Irish wedding at Trump International Doonbeg was positively sophisticated with subtle elements reminiscent of 1960s style. Aislinn Events organized the ivory and sage green wedding of the couple’s dreams, which was artistically captured by Aspect Photography. After saying “I do,” the newlyweds ventured out into the venue grounds, the impossibly green Doonbeg countryside, for portraits as the sun set.

The Couple:

Blaire and Gordon

The Wedding:

Trump International Doonbeg, Clare, Ireland

The Inspiration:

The wedding was held in Doonbeg, Ireland, so among other things the weather came into play. We originally wanted to hold the ceremony outside, in the courtyard. But with the threat of rain, and cool temperatures, we moved to an indoor location. It worked well since it created a very intimate atmosphere, in a room full of friends and family. We also used the location as inspiration using lots of greens trying to bring the outdoors inside in a very clean way. It is such a beautiful location that really we just wanted to echo that in our decor. Gordon did not want formal dress, so we also needed to create a relaxed atmosphere while also adhering to our wishes for a formal event. We both like modern takes on early 1960s fashion, so we were also inspired by that when choosing our clothes.

The Moments:

Gordon: My favourite moment was when the guests were passing the rings among one another, to bless them, in the ring warming ceremony, and everyone was doing it so seriously and thoughtfully that it was taking far too long, and the officiant had to ask them to hurry up.

Blaire: My favorite moments have to be having our parents at the ceremony performing the handfasting ceremony and our first dance. I could go on and on about favorite moments actually.

The Couple Recommends:

I have to say that everyone was really fantastic. I was really grateful to have Annie from Aislinn Events keeping me on track and suggesting vendors — I shudder to think what it would have been like without her. Shane was an amazing photographer as neither Gordon nor I like posing for photographs, so we really loved his documentary style and beautiful artistic shots. Sylvia from Doonbeg was really accommodating and knowledgable about what works and doesn’t work (both equally important) at the venue. Jill turned my lack of floral knowledge into fantastically creative work. Both Kathryn and Laura listened to what I wanted for hair and make-up and made me look so very beautiful. Jim played great vinyl records and let us dance the night away to music from the ’50s to the 80’s (our choice). And my wonderful husband contacted Liane Carroll on a whim to ask her to play at our wedding as I have listened to her at Jazz venues in Brighton and London and am a big fan.

  1. I absolutely loved the style of this wedding. Having a photographer taking photos in a “documentary style” rather than stills is a great idea, I’d love to do that in my future wedding. Are their recommendations of any good photographers in the states that do this? Everything looks beautiful.

    • Hey Melanie,

Yes, we’ve got our favorite US photographers listed right here!

  2. Wonderful wedding photo shoot . Thanks for sharing.
