Pink dinosaurs, hand-bleached tablecloths, and a circus-inspired reception tent filled from floor to ceiling with kitschy candy-colored details were just the beginning of the whimsical goodness that was Inga and Martin’s quirky Cornwall wedding. The laid-back couple opted for a DIY celebration to create a day that represented their relationship better than a traditional English countryside wedding. Fortunately, Millie Benbow Photography was there to document every adorable element and endearing moment from the YHA Treyarnon wedding.

The Couple:

Inga and Martin

The Wedding:

YHA Treyarnon, Cornwall, England

The Inspiration:

We always knew we were going to get married by the sea in Cornwall where Martin is from. We’re both pretty relaxed and outdoorsy, so a big country manor (as beautiful as they can be) was never going to be our cup of tea. The whole decor really started with the marquee which we absolutely adored. It had that kind of circus feel to it and I instantly knew I wanted lots of bright colours to create a really fun and playful feel. I’m not sure where the pink theme really came from, I’m not really much of a pink girl but I absolutely loved the look of everything in the end, so I think it somehow magically ended up turning out alright. The slight dinosaur theme emerged firstly from Martin and his BFF Richard’s never-ending love for dinosaurs and secondly the dinosaur fabric we found for the bow ties, and we went from there. Most of our decorations were made by ourselves and I love the way they all turned out. I spent countless hours bleaching dust sheets, then dying and cutting them to create cheap pink table cloths. 20 of us spent a whole afternoon of my hen do working on those incredible tissue paper tassel garlands, thank you a million ladies!

The Moments:

The hymns in the church were pretty fun as unfortunately I had completely messed up the order of services. The lyrics were all over the place and there were lots of giggles and very awkward singing. I panicked at first but everyone thought it was hilarious in the end. The two little ‘photo shoots’ Millie and Jo took us on were lovely, too, a fantastic way to just relax and take it all in for a minute. Finally, the fact that the dance floor was never once empty from our first dance until about 3 AM was pretty amazing. We danced on hay bales and tables and simply had the most amazing time, I just didn’t want it all to end.

The Couple Recommends:

Millie Benbow deserves ALL of the praise, she (and Jo) have been absolute stars and I couldn’t imagine having picked anyone else to take our photos. They have both been the absolutely loveliest and we feel we not only gained stunning photos but also two amazing friends. Love you guys!

Our rings and therefore our personal family jeweller (who also happens to be Martin‘s best man) Richard Stevens from Canary Blue deserves a huge shout out. Richard made everything from our wedding rings to the majority of the jewellery I wore on the day and the necklaces I gave to my lovely bridesmaids as little thank you gifts. Richard is incredibly talented and has been an absolute legend in the lead up to our wedding (and obviously also in general life), thank you, thank you, thank you!

A big thank you also to Simon and his crew from Ashley Events, he was so so helpful in the lead up to the wedding and never once got annoyed with me for the millions of questions I asked.

Jon from the Cornish Pizza Company has also been an absolute legend and we’re both super sad to have ended up having only about a slice of pizza each on our big day (just too busy to eat!). We’ll be back to eat more pizza soon!

Finally, a big shout out to Gemma and Sam our lovely sisterships! Their house was turned into our wedding HQ for months and months and they have been incredible in supporting us in so many different ways. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without you guys!
