This Malibu, California real wedding of Christine and Chris was at one of our very favorite Southern California wedding locations – The Saddlerock Ranch. With the expertise of wedding producer and designer Laurel Szeto of Laurel & Party Events, Christine and Chris made the most of this stunning venue and hosted the celebration of a lifetime. One look at these images from photographer Cat Benner of Next Exit Photography and you’ll see just what I mean!

The Goals: Christine and Chris were determined to host their wedding at a location where their guests’ experience would be unique, enjoyable and simply unforgettable. With its 1,000 acre working vineyard, multiple garden areas, spectacular views and even beautiful horses, zebras, peacocks and other animals that live right there on the grounds, Malibu Canyon’s Saddlerock Ranch provided just that. “Our best decision was having our wedding at Saddlerock Ranch. There are no words to describe the magnificent setting they offer! All of our guests were stunned!”

The Design: Christine loves (really, really loves) all things purple, so a color palette of purple, white and silver was used throughout the wedding to create an elegant look in the outdoor setting. Gorgeous purple, plum, lavender and blue floral arrangements from Fiore Designs perfectly decorated the tabletops, twinkling lights and paper lanterns were strung from the trees above the outdoor dance floor, and a photo booth complete with props was set up to give guests fun take-home wedding favors.

The Look: Christine’s Pnina Tornai wedding dress from Kleinfeld Bridal helped inspire the elegant and romantic look of the wedding day, and fit her like an absolute dream. “The dress was incredible. Nothing has ever fit my body so well!” Chris and his groomsmen all wore classic tuxedos and the bridesmaids wore deep purple cocktail dresses from The Dessy Group.

The Moments: Christine vividly remembers seeing Chris for the first time at the altar as her parents gave her away, and the moment of comic relief right before that when the peacocks decided they needed to be part of the wedding day too! “While I was walking down the aisle, the peacocks on the ranch began squawking really loudly….causing everyone, including me, to start laughing and ease the tense moment!”

At the end of the night, after they had danced for hours, the most romantic moment of the day arrived when she and Chris collapsed in their town car, finally alone for the first time.

The Pros: For more information about all of the wedding professionals that contributed their time and talents to this wedding day, be sure to visit our Real Wedding section.

Quilled Marriage Certificates

January 12, 2011 | editorial team

quilled mariage certificates by Ann Martin of All Things Paper, rolled paper art for weddings

If you’re a lover of paper and paper art, then you’ve probably heard of quilling (a rolled paper art technique that creates the beautiful and intricate designs you see here), and if you’re anything like me, you’re probably mildly (or wildly) obsessed with it. Since I’ve always got my eyes open for more inspirational examples of quilling, I was thrilled when these images arrived in my inbox! Ann Martin is a quiller who creates lovely alternative marriage certificates custom decorated with paper designs that correspond with your wedding colors and personal wedding style…

For the wedding of Kristyn and John, Ann worked with calligrapher Living Letters Studio to create the quilled marriage certificate seen here. It matched the colors and chandelier design from the couple’s wedding invitation, and she even added quilling to a paper flower from The Crimson Poppy for the bride to wear in her hair. So cool! For more information about Ann’s marriage certificate designs and lots of quilling tutorials be sure to check out her blog All Things Paper. Are you incorporating interesting crafts or paper art forms like this in your wedding?
