Indoor and Outdoor Citrus Inspired Wedding Decor

Bright, citrus-y wedding color palettes are an easy fit for outdoor weddings, but what about when you want to bring them inside? I love this inspiration photo shoot created by Urbane Montage Events because she and her amazing team of collaborators tackle just that question, and show us two versions of creative citrus wedding decor – perfect for day and for night! Check it out!

From the designer, Faith O. Folayan of Urbane Montage Events: What’s more fun than a fresh, modern, simple citrus-infused celebration in the city? We decided we wanted to showcase ways in which both an outdoor space and an indoor space can be transformed into the perfect modern wedding by incorporating two distinct looks: “day” and “evening.”

With all of this in mind, we gathered a team of talented artists for a modern citrus-styled shoot to inspire brides to embrace bold, bright, and fresh colors. This inspiration shoot includes the color palette of tangerine and chartreuse, accompanied by slate. The palette is complemented with a clean, crisp, elegant design with fresh oranges and limes incorporated into the shoot. The design elements of the “day” included milk glass pieces and white chiavari chairs while the “evening” included glass pieces and clear chiavari chairs: all in the heart of Minneapolis!

The Minneapolis Institute of Arts recently opened their doors to hosting weddings. We were thrilled at the opportunity to feature the museum in our shoot. The MIA’s Target Park was the perfect setting for our “day” look and the Reception Hall of the Target Wing fit the setting for our “evening” look.

And indoor, for a dramatic night time take on the citrus wedding decor look…

The shoot turned out to be more than we could have imagined and we are thankful to have worked with extremely talented individuals! With the stunning combination of the design elements from our wardrobe consultants, our calligrapher, our food design team, and our florist, we created a beautiful and cohesive look for the modern bride. From the flawless paper production of Gretchen Berry Designs to the effortless design of the dessert table by Cocoa & Fig, and the breathtaking blooms of Sadie’s Couture Floral & Event Styling, the shoot was a hit. To top it all off, RE:live Films did a wonderful job of capturing the shoot and telling a lovely story of the beautiful couple.

Lake Tahoe Wedding from Catherine Hall Studios in Deep Jewel Tones – John and Jillian

John and Jillian’s wedding was outdoorsy, relaxed, AND elegant! They came up with this magic combination by focusing on what really mattered to them, and their brilliant planning advice is actually my favorite part of the wedding. Read on for some great insight, and beautiful photos from Catherine Hall Studios.

The Couple: John and Jillian

The Wedding: 8.6.11 – Baker Estate – Lake Tahoe, CA

What three adjectives best describe your wedding? Personal, beautiful, fun!

What was your wedding color palette? Very saturated colors: fuchsia, deep red, yellow, and purple.

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? I wanted our wedding to really reflect us and to have some beautiful statements with regards to the furniture rentals and set-up; but at the same time, I didnt want to fuss over too many details. I wanted it to look like a beautiful party rather than having it feel too “weddingy.” A gorgeous outdoor setting and flowers were the most important detail to me, so thats where I focused most of my planning energy. Flowers were the main area where I really pushed the budget. I also decided to forgo the traditional wedding furniture rental companies because I thought their offerings are often what make weddings feel generic. I found Blueprint Studios in San Francisco and got pretty wooden tables that didnt need tablecloths as well as some beautiful chandeliers to hang from the trees. They also had a great bar with a tall back that they would paint any color I wanted, and I went with a distressed white and decorated the bar back with flowers and candles – in addition to lots of bottles to choose your drink ingredients from!

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? I love that we decided to just focus on the big things that would make our wedding personal, and not fuss over every imaginable detail (which is easy to do). Because we only had a few months to plan, perfecting the bigger details helped give us a focus. We wanted to have a full dance floor until it was time to close down because our favorite weddings are those that are a huge dance party for guests of all ages. I think having a bar right next to the dance floor and great music were key to that! Seeing everything come together as I imagined, having the most important people from all parts of our lives in one place, and everyone just letting loose and having such a great time made the day even more special.

What piece of advice would you give to a bride planning her wedding today? Focus! Think about the few things that are the most important to you and devote 80% of your time and energy to doing those things really well. Its easy to obsess over every detail, but people wont remember all those details and youll just drive yourself (and your fiancé) crazy.

Bright Coastal California Barn Wedding – Liz and Mark

Now that the colder (and rainy here in Seattle!) days have set in, Liz and Mark’s bright, sunny, coastal California wedding feels like a much needed summer vacation today! And like all vacations, this one makes my heart light and puts a smile on my face. I’m not sure if it’s the ocean view, the blooming garden, sweet dog, rustic barn, or romantic moments, but it all feels good to me. The Couple: Liz and Mark

The Wedding: 8.4.12 – Cayucos Creek Barn – Cayucos, CA

What were the top priorities for you in planning your wedding? One of the main priorities were making sure that there would be amazing food and drinks for the big day, which was fun to manage. We also wanted to make sure that all of our friends and family from far and wide had places to stay and ways to get to Cayucos.

What wedding traditions or cultural traditions did you incorporate into your wedding and what did they mean to you? At the rehearsal dinner we had Mariachis – When Mark and I first met, we spent a year living in Mexico traveling with our dog. Plus, my mothers side is Mexican, so the Mariachis were very important to the family.

Were there any places where you broke the rules in your wedding planning? Why and how did you do that? I only had one bridesmaid, my sister, and my husband had his brother as a groomsman. We had our dog as the ring bearer – a dear friend escorted him down the aisle and gave us the rings during the ceremony. We had a very small wedding party! It was the best decision for us.

What was your biggest wedding planning success? The day of was out of this world fantastic – something that we will remember dearly when we are old and grey. You cant go wrong with that, and I consider that the best planning success – that all of the planning was worth it!

What was the most important thing that you learned through the wedding planning process and what would you tell other brides-to-be? When planning, remember what is really important – you and your soon-to-be-spouse! Dont let other peoples emotions get to you – this is your day! And if you start to sweat it, remember that your life will go back to normal shortly after the wedding.
