A Surprise Anniversary Shoot from Holly-Kate & Company and Laurel McConnell Photography

March 4, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

When Seattle invitation designer Kerri Efendi decided to surprise her husband, Eldad, with a styled wedding anniversary photo shoot, who better to join forces with than local friends and wedding pros Laurel McConnell Photography and Holly-Kate and Company? The result was playful, stylish, imaginative and super sweet!

Here are a few words from Holly-Kate about the inspiration for the shoot: I am so lucky to get to work with such talented people! When Kerri approached Laurel and I a few years ago about helping her style an anniversary shoot for she and her husband, I was beyond thrilled! This past fall, we decided to make it happen and surprise Eldad with the photo shoot. We talked about incorporating a couch with some black and white elements – then she trusted the rest of the details to us! I knew that I wanted to pull together the color palette with touches of turquoise, gold and fuchsia.

If you have met either Kerri or Eldad before, then you know they are a stylish couple – always ahead of the trends! I love bringing a couples true style out when designing their shoot or event. They stayed the night at the Hotel Ballard for their anniversary – little did Eldad know what was about to happen. In the morning they decided to go for a walk in the park, they rounded the corner and there we were with a full surprise set up! We worked with some of our favorite professionals in the area to find the perfect items for the shoot –  The Dress Theory (dress by Sarah Seven), Vintage Ambiance for the furniture, Floressence for our gorgeous flowers, The SweetSide for our lovely desserts and the rest of the details came from Holly-Kate and Company

Wedding Photographed with a Cell Phone by Joy Marie Photography

March 3, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

At most weddings today, you can expect to see guests capturing meaningful moments on their cell phones, but what would happen if a professional wedding photographer captured all the moments of the wedding day using only her cell phone? When Nokia released their new Lumia 1020 cell phone, they got in touch with LA wedding photographer Joy Marie to see if she was up for the challenge. Joy jumped right in, as did the adventurous Crista and Chris, who were to be married in a romantic beach wedding at Capella Resort. The results were nothing short of magical so prepare to be blown away by beautiful landscapes and romantic wedding photos you won’t believe were captured on a cell phone.

The Couple: Crista and Chris

The Wedding: 11.8.13 – Capella Resort, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

The Goals: Our main goals was to be organized, and focused but at the same time to stay relaxed and let people do their jobs. We wanted to keep the guest list to our closest friends to keep the wedding intimate.

The Design: My vision/inspiration for our wedding day was vintage, romantic elegance. We included lots of twinkle lights, tea-lights and candles to create a glow. The colors were blush, champagne, light golds and shimmer. I had a cute sign made for our son to walk down the aisle before me. It says “Daddy, here comes your bride!” We wrote our own vows which was special. We also had a sparkler lighting entrance for when we were introduced as Mr.and Mrs after the ceremony.

The Moments: Seeing our son walk down the aisle was very emotional and another favorite part was the dancing, when all the men took their shirts off for the whole night! Lighting the wish lanterns was really nice as well.

The Photographer: We really felt like Joy and David were part of the family. The were like close friends and that made it very easy for us to feel comfortable and relaxed while they were taking photos. Joy is so easy to relate to and very giving.

The Advice: My best advice is to try and stay realistic. Remember the moment that you are in and just relax.

Favorite Bridal Beauty Products from Los Angeles Makeup Artist Tammy Yi

February 27, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

We hope you enjoyed Tuesday’s article on beauty advice for brides – we had so much fun putting it together with Los Angeles makeup artist Tammy Yi. Today, in part 2 of her guest post series, Tammy is sharing some of her all-time favorite, must-have bridal beauty products, not to mention more fabulous advice for getting a glowing complexion and a radiant wedding look.

Tammy‘s decade of experience in the bridal beauty realm prove one thing beyond a shadow of a doubt – she knows her beauty products! Let’s hear from her why she never leaves her brides without these beauty essentials…

In the Primer of Life: Hydration and skin balance is key to how your makeup is going to wear. If your skin is too dry, it will eat up your makeup and if your skin is too oily, it will break up your makeup. There are so many great primers and moisturizers out there, so find what works best with your skin type. My suggestion is if you are oily try Hourglass – Veil Mineral Primer from Barneys New York, and if you are dry try Laura Mercier ‘Hydrating’ Foundation Primer from Nordstrom.

A Solid Foundation: Your foundation is so crucial to the overall look of your makeup. To look flawless, yet not over done, foundation plays a big part. I love Dior ‘Diorskin Airflash’ Spray Foundation from Nordstrom.

Beauty in the Blend: BeautyBlender ‘Pure’ Makeup Sponge Applicator & Cleanser from Nordstrom is a great tool for applying foundation and blending.

Matters of Contour: For a light contour you can use powder bronzers, but for serious contour you will need to use foundation sticks or concealer sticks. Pick one that is at least three shades darker then your skin tone and one that is at least three shades lighter than your skin tone for highlighting. I suggest Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick from Nordstrom.

Hitting the Highlights: A highlighting concealer is your best friend in your makeup bag. Use one that is light weight so it doesn’t crease around the eyes. It works as an eraser around the eyes and lips. I suggest Yves Saint Laurent ‘Touche Éclat’ Radiant Touch from Nordstrom.

We’re All Set: Use a setting powder that is light weight. You need to set your makeup before applying any pigment or color on your face to ensure wear power and blendability. I suggest NARS ‘Light Reflecting’ Loose Setting Powder or NARS ‘Light Reflecting’ Pressed Setting Powder both from Nordstrom. It is talc free and doesn’t matte you out too much.

Draw the Line: Make sure to use a waterproof eyeliner. MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack from Nordstrom is a good go to.

Hey There Bright Eyes: A nude or flesh tone eyeliner in the inner rim of your eye will give a more open look to your eye. Try Chanel Le Crayon Khôl Intense Eye Pencil from Nordstrom.

Raising a Few Brows: When filling in your brow, use a tone that matches the lightest tone in your hair. That will give a natural effect to your brows. Anastasia Beverly Hills ‘Brow Wiz’ Mechanical Brow Pencil from Nordstrom has a good variety of colors.

Walk the Tight Line: Tight lining the eye is one of my favorite eye tricks. Fill in the liner at the root of the lashes – it will give you a natural line and a full lash look. Laura Mercier ‘Tightline’ Cake Eyeliner from Nordstrom works great for this.
