July 12, 2014 | editorial team

We just love this fashionable coral, gold, teal and charcoal grey wedding in Orlando photographed by Kristen Weaver Photography. Tiffany and Adam’s wedding remained unique and memorable while still honoring the traditions of a classic wedding. Don’t you just adore the fresh take on their bridesmaids’ attire?

The Goals: We wanted to have a small, intimate wedding that was full of sweet sentiment and celebration. We also wanted it to be beautiful and fun for our guests.

The Design: We wanted an elegant wedding that had original ideas, but still remained timeless. During the planning process I kept both of our taste in mind. I used soft feminine colors complimented with masculine metallics and charcoal gray. We chose coral and gold with splashes of teal and gray.

Since this was a celebration of our relationship, we added personal touches that were special to us. The willow branches used in the ceremony were a nod to the flower bouquets he would bring me. They always had willow branches in them. He also introduced me to Lorina sparkling lemonades so I was excited to include them in the cocktail hour for our guests.

The Look: We had a lot of fun with our wedding day look. The bridesmaids look started with a gorgeous gold sequin pencil skirt and developed from there. I wanted there to be splashes of coral in the wedding but I didnt want it to be overwhelming. I was able to break up the color palette by pairing a coral top with a gold metallic skirt and a rustic teal necklace. It was important to us that the groomsmen maintained their masculinity so they wore fitted charcoal gray suits with gray ties.

We had Adam stand out wearing a lighter gray suit from Hugo Boss. He looked very polished with his brown Allen Edmond shoes. He also wore a different tie from the groomsmen. I was happy how well put together they looked while he still stood out as the groom.

For my look I have to say I was really inspired by my mothers own wedding day look. I can remember looking at one picture of my parents’ wedding that sits on her dresser and always thinking about how beautiful she was. She wore a stunning gown that was adorned with lace details and a long train. Her hair was worn down with a fingertip length veil. I kept her dress in mind while searching for mine. When I found my dress I was struck by the intricate detail of the lace that sparkled with hand sewn sequins. The most beautiful parts were the train and the sweetheart neckline. I also chose to wear my hair down with a fingertip length veil. I accessorized with my great grandmothers engagement ring, chandelier rose gold earrings that had a freshwater pearl hanging in the center, and sparkly Jimmy Choo shoes.

The Moments: We chose to be traditional and not see each other until I walked down the aisle. The first time we made eye contact had to be one of the best parts of the day.

My father hand crafted a time capsule wine box that we used during the ceremony. He kept it hidden until until after I walked down the aisle. It was so special to see it for the first time as we were enclosing our letters. He had put so much love a work into it and I was blown away by his craftsmanship.

After the ceremony it was really nice to take a few moments away for our formal portraits together. That was really the most intimate time during the wedding. It gave us time to talk and enjoy each other before the reception. I am so stunned by the pictures that Kristen Weaver was able to get during this time. I think she really captured that moment beautifully.

I absolutely loved every minute of our reception. We had so much fun letting loose and dancing with all of our family and friends. The service Arthur’s Catering provided was unbelievable and AJ, our DJ from A-List Entertainment, did an amazing job getting everyone on the dance floor and keeping us entertained for the entire reception. It flew by so fast!

I think the biggest success for the wedding was planning a beautiful wedding that we were able to enjoy. We had so much fun and it was so special to be surrounded by our friends and family.

The Goals: As a couple, our main priority was that the wedding be intimate and simple. We did not want there to be a lot of fuss over things we did not consider essential to a wedding. We tried to keep the decor simple while adding little touches of homemade items.

The Design: I wanted my guests to feel like they were at an intimate garden party. We achieved this by choosing a venue that was literally a working flower garden, but was also a family home which gave it that intimate air. All our decor added up to a not so formal, but oh so pleasant wedding with a cohesive and organic feel, and that was the point!

The Look: My fashion inspiration was romantic, simple, pre-raphaelite. I wanted everything to look soft and natural and a bit timeless. After the ceremony, someone said I reminded them of Shakespeare’s Juliet which made me feel like I achieved what I went after! I originally wanted a couture designer gown, but instead I worked with “Project Runway” winner Leanne Marshall who created a custom altered gown based off one of her wedding dresses. Leanne was great to work with! The funny thing is I found accessorizing to be much much harder than designing my wedding dress! There are so many great wedding sashes and jewelry out there for brides that it’s very difficult to choose from. In the end, I decided to wear simple jewelry from my paternal and maternal grandmothers, and let my flower crown and dress be the stars of the outfit.

The Moments: My favorite part of the day was the first look, which was surprising because in the beginning I was not keen on doing a first look! It was actually one of the few things my husband really wanted to do (he felt that seeing me before the ceremony would calm his nerves) and it turned out to be really special! In that moment, I really felt like it was just Jeremy and I and I think it shows in the photos! I will treasure that sequence of photography forever I think.

The Advice: My biggest advice for brides would be to try and carve out some reflection time before the wedding. This is a big day and chances are a lot of people put a lot of work into making it special. Make sure you have time to really savor that and take it all in!

How to Choose Your Signature Cocktail – Expert Advice and Recipes from Oregon Bartending Service Mint and Mirth

July 11, 2014 | lexi

Choosing the perfect libations to celebrate your big day can be daunting, especially if you’re trying to please a big crowd. Luckily, we spoke with Joni Whitworth from the award-winning Portland, Oregon bartending service, Mint & Mirth, who gave us some insider tips as well as yummy recipes for trendy and tasty cocktails. These summery drinks are all twists on classics and are sure to start your reception off with a kick!

“The Early Picnic” Signature Cocktail:

  • 2 oz tequila
  • 3/4 oz meyer lemon shrub
  • 1/4 oz lime juice

how to choose your signature cocktail - expert advice from Oregon bartending service Mint and Mirth | via junebugweddings.com

What advice do you have for couples selecting their signature cocktails?

Joni: If your budget is relatively tight, consider selecting just one light (vodka, rum, gin) and one dark (whiskey, bourbon, etc.). You’re sure to please nearly everyone! If you have kids and teen guests, remember that most cocktails can be made into mocktails by substituting juice or soda for alcohol. That way kids and teens can still feel like they are part of the action. Also, check out distilleries in your local area. Tell them you are getting married and want to design cocktails for your wedding, you may be able to get a free tour and tasting!

“Change Your Clocks” Signature Cocktail:

  • 1 1/2 oz Hendricks gin
  • 3/4 oz mint shrub
  • topped with sparkling limeade
  • add a lime wheel garnish

“Fresh Cut” Signature Cocktail

  • 1 1/2 oz gin
  • 1/4 oz green chartreuse
  • 3/4 oz lemon juice
  • dash of rhubarb bitters
  • tonic
  • add a lemon peel garnish

What are some of the trendiest ingredients in wedding cocktails this season?

Joni: Last summer I made variations on Meyer lemon drinks, such as Meyer lemon margaritas, Meyer lemon gin and tonics, and Bee’s Knees. This summer, I’m crafting my clients’ wedding menus around herbs, such as our tangerine thyme margarita.

“Miss Margarita” Signature Cocktail:

  • 1 1/2 oz tequila
  • 1/2 oz cointreau
  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1/2 oz peach shrub
  • add a salt rim or dash of jacobsen salt

“Cherry Blossom” Signature Cocktail:

  • 3/4 oz Luxardo
  • 1 oz brandy
  • 1/2 oz green chartreuse
  • garnish with cherry

What advice do you have for couples who are trying to find a wedding bartending service as professional and unique as Mint and Mirth?

Joni: I would advise them to spend an extra 10-20 minutes of up-front research. Reading up about potential cocktail catering companies will answer common questions and give you some insight as to that company’s style and process. The person you work with should have excellent manners, be prompt, communicate clearly, and have a list of references you can contact. Lastly, always put everything in writing!

“Northern Fjord” Signature Cocktail:

  • 1 oz brandy
  • 1/2 oz aquavit
  • 1/2 oz orange juice
  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1/4 oz grenadine
  • add an orange peel garnish

What is a go-to drink that is always a crowd-pleaser at weddings?

Joni: I love to make a nice Rhubarb Gin and Tonic or a Kentucky Mule. These are simple, fast drinks that are exceptionally easy to make, yet have a big aesthetic impact!
