Vintage and Natural Nordic Wedding

Ragnhild and Mike’s Nordic wedding in Ålesund was filled with vintage details, natural elements, and, of course, lots of love. The pair exchanged vows in a small Skodje church before heading out into the sunset for romantic portraits with Michaela Nichole Photography. Ragnhild and Mike’s whimsical reception style was born out of their love for literature and vintage pieces.

The Couple:

Ragnhild and Mike

The Wedding:

Nedreskodje Gard, Ålesund, Norway

The Inspiration:

For our Nordic wedding the key words were food and nature. We wanted to show off the best of what Norway has to offer, and chose to get married in Ålesund, where the bride grew up. This is the most beautiful place on earth in our opinion, but sadly not known for good weather. Well, we got a whole week of sunshine, and consider it a wedding miracle.

I have always loved redesign and vintage, so it was natural to incorporate that in our wedding as well. When we had found the barn at Skodje, a lot of things fell into place. The venue is so special that we didn´t need much extra decor. That fit both us and the budget well, since we live in another part of the country, and it was not an option to make or buy large decorations and then transport them far.

The style was simple and rustic, with a recurring book theme, since we both love to read. I already owned some books, but found the rest for a good price in second hand shops. I had not planned the flowers, apart from deciding on a color scheme, and ended up with mostly flowers from the garden of the house we stayed at!

The Moments:

The whole wedding week was such an amazing experience, it is impossible to pick one moment. Being surrounded by our family and friends for several days was very special to us, especially since some had to travel really far.

There were definitely some highlights during our ceremony in Skodje church. Walking up the aisle was a very emotional experience, full of tears of joy. That joy continued to follow us the whole day, so our jaws were sore from smiles and laughter. A moment we will never forget is from the very end of the ceremony, when my dad surprised us and everyone there by bursting into a song he had written for us!

We loved being able to enjoy good food and relax with our guests. We served a buffet dinner with traditional Norwegian food, and for dessert we had popsicles and a coffee cart in the farmyard. Everyone had to move around and there was plenty of time to talk, which ensured the light and informal atmosphere that was so important to us.

The Couple Recommends:

Almost everyone that contributed to our wedding were people we knew. It was such a great feeling to be surrounded by people we care about, and who are great at what they do!

We are thrilled with the pictures of the day, and couldn’t have had better people document our day. We had so much fun taking pictures with Irene and Michaela, and now we have so many amazing reminders of the start of our life together.

Joelle and Tom’s English garden wedding at Braisty Estate in North Yorkshire, England was covered in a just-rained, radiant glow. Cream florals, light-blue bridesmaid’s gowns, and a vintage car contributed to the overall enchanting atmosphere. Amazing photographer Helen Abraham captured the precious new moments the couple shared as husband and wife — including an incredible shot in front of a rainbow.

The Moments:

Our favorite moment was the drive from the church to the venue because it was the first moment we were alone as a married couple. Also, our double rainbow was truly magical and the speeches were very moving!

The Couple Recommends:

Our photographer, Helen Abraham, was amazing and an absolute pleasure to have around. The contacts at Braisty Estate were so helpful, patient and supportive, they really went above and beyond. Our food, by Taste Cuisine, was delicious and was complimented by all of our guests, their staff were also truly wonderful. The NightJars Band was brilliant and at times we didn’t know whether it was them singing live or the original version of the song!

Coral and Gray Wedding at Laurel Creek Manor

April 18, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Coral-and-Gray-Wedding-at-Laurel-Creek-Manor (7 of 30)

Creating a truly special day, Annie and Chris made a $50 donation to 18 different charities, representing the 18 different guest-tables at their wedding. Their beautiful, bright wedding at Laurel Creek Manor was illuminated with fresh coral colors in the bouquets and gradient themed bridesmaids’ gowns. Bright florals in glass jars hung from the trees creating an intimate setting for the couple to exchange vows. Talented photographer Meredith McKee captured Annie and Chris’ big day perfectly.

The Couple:

Annie and Chris

The Wedding:

Laurel Creek Manor, Sumner, Washington

The Inspiration:

We based most of décor around our colors – corals, silver, grey, and white. We wanted the day to be a big happy celebration and not too formal. Our venue had a beautiful tent and gorgeous landscaping, but still felt relaxed. The bridesmaid dresses were 3 different shades of coral that had an ombre effect.

It was also important to us to include as many friends as possible as well as to source as much as we could locally for the wedding. Our flowers were purchased at the Seattle Wholesale Growers Market and arranged by friends and family. Chris’s best man is a brewer at Black Raven and made us several special wedding beers. In lieu of favors, we made a $50 donation for each of our 18 guest tables, each to a different charity with significance to us, our family, or our friends. Our welcome gifts for guests staying in hotels were filled with some of our favorite Seattle goodies – Seattle Chocolates, Tim’s Cascade Chips, Talking Rain sparkling water, etc…

The Moments:

Annie: Our entire wedding day exceeded my expectations! But, I think my favorite moment was after the ceremony and before the reception when Chris and I had a quiet 5 minutes together. The day had already been a flurry of activity, and that brief window of time together spent sipping champagne and laughing about a pre-ceremony mishap was priceless.

Chris: My favorite moment from the wedding was the balloon send-off. Though we spent the last 4 hours partying with all of our friends and loved ones, walking through the sea of glowing orbs and clapping to our vintage Bentley was so fun and so emotional. The love and happiness is impossible to describe.

The Couple Recommends:

We were pleased with all of our vendors. I know we’ll work with our photographer, Meredith, again in the future. But the vendor that surprised us the most with their overall positive impact on our wedding was Rebecca Lefebvre with Avec La Vie. Our invitations were a low priority for us in terms of what we had budgeted, and we were going to go the online route. Rebecca persuaded us to give it a shot with her, and she completely blew us away! She was able to take some very vague direction from me on what I liked and turn it into exactly what I didn’t even know I wanted! We were so in love with her invitations, that we hired her to also do all of our wedding day signage and more. We received so many compliments on what Rebecca created for us, I can’t imagine that we almost didn’t work with a professional designer!
