Truly capturing the “laissez les bon temps rouler” New Orleans spirit, Erin and Patrick got married at Pavilion of the Two Sisters in City Park. Both Erin and Patrick grew up in New Orleans, and they even got engaged in the City Park gardens. Their wedding came complete with an authentic, horn-powered dance band, classic taffy sticks for wedding favors, and a second line to end the night. Photographer Maile Lani captured every sweet moment from Erin and Patrick’s big day, from their first look in the gardens to the couple dancing the night away with all their family and friends.

My friend had a heart charm made that was engraved with my mother’s handwriting recycled from old cards. One side had my name and the other had “Mom.” I pinned it on my bouquet and carried it with me all day. I now wear it as a necklace.

My mother died when I was young so I really wanted to carry her with me on one of the most important days of my life. I originally wanted to wear her dress but it did not age well. Instead, my stepmother sewed my veil from her veil. It was beautiful. I also wore my mom’s pearls that my dad gave her on their wedding day.

There were several memorable parts of the day: reading the letter from my now husband while getting ready, our first look in the gardens, our ring bearer sprinting down the aisle, saying our vows, and the second line ending the reception. The day truly exceeded our expectations.

Growing up in New Orleans, City Park was a large and warm part of our childhoods. My husband knew that I had always wanted to get married there, and he proposed in the gardens. I love the beauty of the park with the gorgeous gardens, oak trees, and happy memories. We lucked out with perfect weather so our guests could enjoy the beauty of the grounds as well.

We really wanted everyone to have as much fun as we knew we would and embody the New Orleans “laissez les bon temps rouler” spirit. A band was one of our top priorities and the Boogie Men did not disappoint. From song one until the second line, everyone stayed on their feet.

Intimate California Coast Wedding at Point Lobos State Natural Reserve

April 13, 2016 | editorial team

Opting out of a grand and luxurious wedding, Kara and Reed announced to their family that they were going to get married on the coast of California on Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. Kara and Reed spent the morning of their wedding sipping coffee and going over their vows while getting ready together, and they wouldn’t have had it any other way. The couple’s friend, photographer Keely Montoya, took pictures of the small, intimate ceremony, and though it was cloudy and a little bit rainy, the coast of California never looked so bright.

Reed made breakfast at our Airbnb, we got ready together, drove to the spot in the same car, and walked up the stairs, hand-in-hand, to the cliffside where our immediate family was waiting. We are best friends and enjoy spending time together – we wouldn’t have spent our wedding day any differently. We will always treasure the peaceful morning we had, sipping coffee and going over our vows, as long as we live.

Our photographer and friend, Keely Montoya, was with us every step of the way. She made us feel comfortable and was such a calming presence; she seamlessly became part of the experience. Keely really captured the beauty of the scenery and we completely trusted her vision.

Embrace the day any way it comes. It was cold and foggy on the day of our wedding, but I threw on my leather jacket and ended up feeling even more like myself with it on. Hiccups will happen, but they ultimately don’t matter. You’re marrying the person you love!

We landed on Point Lobos after a day of site scouting; it was exactly the spot we had imagined. The perfect balance of land, sea, and sky.

We wrote our own vows and chose to ask our family for support versus asking for a traditional blessing or giving away of the bride. Hearing our family all say “We do” with such joy when asked for their support was overwhelming and a moment we’ll never forget.

Rose Gold and Burgundy Italian Wedding at Villa Silvana

April 13, 2016 | editorial team

Because of her Italian heritage, getting married in Italy was always Noelle’s dream, and thanks to a talented team of wedding planners, she and her husband Mark were able to have their destination wedding at Villa Silvana. The wedding was nothing short of classic and elegant, but managed to maintain every bit of the intimate and personal tone that Noelle and Mark wanted for their big day. Italian Wedding Photographer Jules Bower captured the couple as they said “I do” overlooking the Bay of Naples.

The Couple:

Noelle & Mark

The Wedding:

Villa Silvana, Sorrento, Italy

We really wanted the feeling of intimacy. We did destination so that we could keep the wedding small. We also really wanted the coast of Italy to play a significant role in the wedding. We kept our budget small and wanted to stick to it, we used the gorgeous Italian Coast as the backdrop and main decoration for both the ceremony and the reception.

I purchased a Monique Lhuillier past season wedding gown at a sample sale in Downtown Los Angeles. After that I took the dress and had the bottom of the dress redone to reflect the newer layered princess style that has shown up in recent seasons.

Our ceremony was very personal. We had one of our very best friends officiate, and he wrote a very personal ceremony. Mark and I also wrote our own vows. I always loved ceremonies that make the guests laugh, so I tried to incorporate funny antidotes in mine.

During our wedding, the string trio was playing beautiful music and I looked over at Mark who was looking at the ocean, then at me. He had tears in his eyes and he said, “This is like a movie. This is so beautiful. I can’t believe we are here getting married.” It was pure magic!

I gave my bridesmaids the colors they could choose from and let them select their own dresses. Each girl had such a unique body type and skin tone, one dress would not have worked for them all. It was so important to me that they felt comfortable and beautiful as well.

Jules is a true artist and consummate professional. I come from a creative background so it was very important to me to find a photographer who did not need creative direction. A photographer either has it or they don’t. Jules just has it. I did my research when making my selection. At the end of the day pictures are all you have left and I am in LOVE with mine.
