Los Angeles Indoor Garden Wedding at Millwick

March 15, 2017 | gabby

Liz and Jonathan’s LA wedding at Millwick combined a sophisticated industrial venue with vintage botanical vibes! The couple was initially on the fence about having a wedding at all, so when they decided to take the plunge, they wanted every detail to personally reflect their own interests – and it totally shows! From the music soundtrack down to the very personalized menus, Liz and Jonathan’s wedding was a perfect reflection of their classic yet modern styles. Krista Ashley Photography captured every moment of the couple’s wedding beautifully, including their breathtaking reception décor and emotional ceremony.

The Couple:

Liz and Jonathan

The Wedding:

Millwick, Los Angeles, California

I was on the fence about having an actual wedding ceremony and reception in the first place, so it was crucial to keep both as true to “us” as possible. This meant keeping things low-impact, pretty minimalist, and making sure all of the details reflected our tastes and not someone else’s.

The ceremony was the most memorable part for both of us. We didn’t have a “first look” so the look on both of our faces as we saw each other for the first time was pretty magical. Jonathan teared up (he’s not a crier) and I didn’t think I’d ever be able to stop smiling after that moment.

Krista was incredible to work with on the day, we couldn’t have asked for a better photographer. She was patient and flexible (we definitely didn’t adhere well to our timeline) We loved that she got the classic and posed shots in such a dynamic way without them looking stiff or boring. And, her ability to document the emotion and candid moments made our photos perfectly special.

If there’s anything we had to learn the hard way, the best advice we have for any couple is to stick to their guns. Don’t let the pressure from family, friends, venue staff, planners, etc steer you into making decisions that you’ll come to regret later. I think every couple is overrun and overwhelmed by outside input at some point during the planning process, but there’s a gracious way to accept advice without changing direction or vision.

We created the dinner menu together, it was a combination of dishes fromB.S. Taqueria and Broken Spanish – both restaurants are located in downtown LA and owned by chef Ray Garcia. It was important for us to serve everything family-style and not have a coursed-out meal. Ray and his team are dear friends and made the experience a dream. Our guests still rave about the food to this day.

For the dessert bar another wonderful friend, chef Mei Lin, made a variety of tartlets (makrut lime, dark chocolate, passionfruit) and we got our favorite chocolate chip cookies and s’mores from fundamental LA in Westwood.

I surprised Jonathan with these songs. He had no idea:
Processional – Back In The Tall Grass, Future Islands
Recessional – Here Comes The Night Time, Arcade Fire
First Dance – PrimeTime, Janelle Monae
