The Brooklyn Winery was the Perfect Canvas for This Folksy Jewish Wedding

September 22, 2017 | emy

Nikki and Malcolm reclaimed every aspect of the traditional wedding to create and unique and special ceremony all their own with fully functioning The Brooklyn Winery as the understated backdrop. This uniquely chic space created the perfect canvas for an intimate and ambient celebration in which the bride and groom walked down the aisle as equal partners, wrote their own vows and put an individual twist on Jewish wedding traditions. Brave Floral created the warm and rustic bridal bouquet and stylishly simple centerpieces that perfectly accented the raw and romantic feel of this real wedding. We love the tender realism of the couple’s downtown Brooklyn first look captured by Jean-Laurent Gaudy.

The Couple:

Nikki and Malcolm

The Wedding:

The Brooklyn Winery, Brooklyn, New York

The most important thing was that it felt true to who we are as a couple. We were passionate about creating an intimate ambiance with our closest friends and family.

We are both design savvy and passionate about creating sophisticated and elevated environments. Needless to say picking the perfect venue was very important to us. We wanted a space that felt intimate, real, and raw, without the hassle of building it ourselves in an actual raw space. The Brooklyn Winery was the perfect canvas for what we inevitably wanted to create. Additionally, the food was great, so it was a win win.

We were hiding away in a lofted area as our guests were entering the venue… we could see and hear the excitement. Before our walk down the aisle. We sat down and meditated together. This time alone but together before this big step was calming, special and memorable.

The most important thing was that it felt true to who we are as a couple. We were passionate about creating an intimate ambience with our closest friends and family.

We dissected each and every aspect to see where the ceremonial tradition came from, what it meant, and if it was important to us to include. We decided to walk down the aisle together to symbolize walking into a marriage as equal partners, we wrote our own vows, and designed matching wedding bands. We worked with our florist to crest a unique and special ceremonial circle in lieu of a tradiontal Chuppah and together we wrote and made our own Ketubah.
