Captured by the dynamic duo at Dmitri and Sandra Photography, Lynn and George’s wedding was at the Regis Princeville Resort in Princeville, Hawaii. With a pink ombre color palette set against the tranquil backdrop of the Kamani Cove overlooking  Hanalei Bay and the Makana Mountains, this event had everything you could dream of for a destination wedding in Kauai. The Wedding: 7.24.2013 – St. Regis Princeville Resort, Princeville, Hawaii

The Goals: Location, food, and music were our top three priorities. We really wanted a destination wedding with a tropical backdrop. We have some big eaters and drinkers in our group and wanted to make sure the food was plenty and delicious, so we decided on an open bar and buffet style dinner. We felt it was important to set the mood and ambiance with music, so we spent a lot of time planning the right music for each occasion, carefully selecting each song to make sure it was meaningful to not only us, but to our guests as well.

The Process: The planning experience was fun for most of the time. George used so many excel spreadsheets for various wedding items like the budget, guest list, music, destinations, and flowers. We started off with a flexible budget that depended on the number of guests that could attend. We were able to do more fun things like a fire dance show and hula dancing with a relatively small group that was able to attend the wedding. We wanted a fun, entertaining and memorable experience for our close friends and family especially since they traveled from far away. We picked a Hawaiian resort because we could easily plan from afar and incorporate the casual, but elegant wedding theme using Hawaiian style food, decor, and tropical backdrop. It was a place that we knew our guests would enjoy.

The Design: We were aiming for a casual, yet elegant tropical theme. We picked a more laid-back luau rather than a formal plated dinner. We set the dress code to be dressy casual, no suits or fancy dresses required. We had an outdoor ceremony with orchid garlands hanging from a large Kamani tree over looking the mountains and the water. It was absolutely beautiful. The decor was partially Hawaiian themed, but simple.

The Moments: I loved the beautiful outdoor ceremony with the orchid garland and the orchid aisle. Our first dance was also quite memorable. We were so happy that we paid for private dance lessons. Totally worth it! I personally appreciated our awesome hair and makeup stylist, Pakalana Dorma, who was actually a great person to talk to about wedding jitters let me focus on decompressing. One of the best decisions that we made though was selecting a really great husband-wife photography team, Dmitri and Sandra.

The Advice: Plan ahead and try your best to stick to the budget. Details really do matter. We really loved the little details of our wedding and so did our guests.
