You’ll Love Every Detail of This Tropical Eclectic Millwick Wedding

May 28, 2017 | juliette

Jessica and Vinny gave relaxed tropical vibes an eclectic, urban twist in their Millwick wedding in Los Angeles! Drawing inspiration from the vintage and tropical feel of the venue, as well as the groom’s Brazilian roots, the couple focused mainly on bold florals using protea, garden roses, and lemon leaf from Boulevard Florist. They also added creative personal touches, such as a pizza and donut menu and a music video compilation that was projected over the dance floor, to make their wedding feel like a true LA party! Carrie Baker Events did an incredible job tying every detail together into a cohesive theme, which photographer Katie Hoss brought to life with her artistic eye and attention to detail!

The Couple:

Jessica and Vinny

The Wedding:

Millwick, Los Angeles, California

Ever since I was a little girl, I knew a white wedding dress was not for me. Pink is always what I imagined for my special day. In contrast to the non-traditional color choice, I wanted a timeless and simple dress. I was inspired by the simplicity and beauty of Carolyn Bessette’s wedding dress when she married JFK, Jr. What made my wedding look even more special is I got to collaborate with my best friend and MOH, which made the whole experience even more special. She has a wonderful California brand called Cloud Hunter. They made my dress, the MOH dress, and the bridal robes.

We fell in love and moved in together in Downtown LA, so we wanted a DTLA venue. Millwick was the first venue, and really the only venue we considered. We loved the warehouse aesthetic mixed with the tropical eclectic theme and live plants. It was an easy choice! It looked liked our dream house basically!

Our close friend, and my best friend of over a decade, was our officiant. He opened up the ceremony with funny stories about the both of us to set the vibe and get people laughing before they cried when we exchanged our vows. It was an emotional rollercoaster of a ceremony!

Working with our photographer, Katie Hoss, was seamless. She had the perfect eye, and knew exactly how to create authentic, cool, and creative images.

We wanted our menu to feel like a real party! What were the best parties you attended as kids? Pizza and donuts, duh! We also had drinks named after us: spicy margarita (Jessarita) and an old fashioned (Vinny Fashion).

Vinny works in video and film, so he put together a super fun video compilation that played in the background on the dance floor on a huge projector screen. The video was all the greatest dance and comedy moments ranging from the ’70s to the early 2000s. Everything from Napolean Dynamite’s infamous dance scene to Soul Train hits to J. Lo’s “Love Don’t Cost A Thing” music video made a cameo. It was a hit! Our guests LOVED it, and it really made the dance floor light up!
