This sweet spring wedding in Asheville, North Carolina makes me wish I could jump inside each photo and experience Kerianne and Adam's dreamy farm wedding for myself. Pure loveliness!
The Couple: Kerianne and Adam
The Wedding: 5.5.12 - Yesterday Spaces - Asheville, NC
What three adjectives best describe your wedding? Cheerful, cozy and personal
What was your wedding color palette? A blend of neutrals
What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? Initially, I saved links to lots of weddings on lots of blogs that captured a style or an overall feeling that appealed to me. I constantly looked at them and tried to identify exactly which elements I liked from each one. Amy, our planner, helped us focus and narrow down the ideas into realistic projects. I found a set of glass bottles on the sidewalk in Brooklyn that became the decor for the head table. I also found a bag of lace curtains from our old house which were used in countless ways, including hanging above the head table and as the wrapping on the bouquets. Instead of numbering the tables, we named them after streets on which we had each lived.
We tried to make everything as informal and cozy as possible, from the wording of the ceremony to serving the food family-style. Also, we didn’t include anything just because. For example, the idea of having Adam go up my dress to retrieve the garter was absolutely mortifying to me, so we didn’t do it. Instead, my stepmom made a garter out of the infamous lace curtains, and he kept it in his pocket all night until after I had tossed the bouquet. Also, ceremony programs seemed like a waste of paper and an extra expense that we didn’t really have the budget for, so we didn’t have them.
Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? It’s so hard to narrow down! I cherish the time my mom and I got to spend together working on various projects in the months leading up to the big day. I loved the days before the wedding spent with my family and closest friends in the farmhouse on the venue property, arranging flowers and working on last minute details. I loved walking down the tree path with my dad. I loved dancing with Adam and all of our friends on the dance floor. We had absolutely no plans for karaoke, but at some point in the evening, someone handed us microphones and we sang along to “Like a Prayer” by Madonna. I have no idea whether the mics were actually turned on, but I have the most hilarious, fantastic memories of dancing around and singing with my brand new husband and our unbelievably fun, loving, supportive family and friends. Also, we were both so thrilled with the vendors we chose for photography and videography. Cheyenne and Geoff Schultz and Gin from ZoMei are all incredibly talented people and incredibly cool. We think of each of them as friends now. Also, since Adam and I are currently living in different states, being able to re-live the day through our pictures and the video over the past several months has been such a comfort and a blessing.
I’m also so thankful we found Amy at Shay Brown Events. I would have lost my mind without her. She’s one of the kindest people I’ve ever met and she's also really good at her job.
What piece of advice would you give to a bride planning her wedding today? Don’t feel like you have to do something just because it’s been done before. On the flip side, don’t feel like you can’t do something just because it’s been done before. Don’t let the warnings that “something will go wrong on your wedding day” scare you. Yes, maybe something will go wrong, but I’m telling you it won’t matter! It will still be a beautiful, perfect day. Also, pack some bobby pins in your clutch! I forgot to and somehow, so did my bridesmaids and family members. Our wedding planner, Amy, saved my life and my sweaty party hair with a rubber band, but I could have kicked myself for forgetting the giant pack of bobby pins that were sitting on the bathroom counter where I got ready!
