Junebug: What three adjectives best describe your wedding?
Jennifer and Blake: Romantic, Intimate, Magical.
Junebug: What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day?
Jennifer: I grew up in the country in the woods, so being outside and getting married under the trees brought a sense of comfort and sense of HOME to me as I relocated to the west coast from CT. Family is so important to me and I was blessed to be able to have my closest family and the wedding party stay at the venue for the weekend. This gave us a retreat/destination like feel without being so far from LA. I wanted to incorporate some of Italian heritage into the wedding with the family style serving of food, cheese plates, great wines and the outdoor Tuscan feeling. The house we got married outside of was really old and had a lot of exposed brick which I love. I love Spanish architecture from my study abroad experience in Spain. Blake and I both working in the entertainment industry as producers, made this our ultimate production to produce. We wanted the wedding to feel sophisticated and not cheesy. Our DJ is the go to guy for the Grammy after party for ING. We wanted to have a touch of a modern, clean white LA nightlife against the classic brick Tuscan retreat. We created a lounge feeling surrounding the dance floor so there would be places to sit other than at your table. I also incorporated my love for yoga by doing an outdoor yoga practice on my wedding day and having my yoga teacher encourage everyone to take a deep breath and be in the moment during the ceremony. My dress was inspired by the formal gowns in the Titanic also reminding me of Downtown Abbey (one of our favorite shows).
Junebug: Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding?
Jennifer: I loved the yoga session in the morning before all the festivities began. It helped me get centered and release any thoughts that weren’t serving me to have a great, peaceful day. Having my closest family and friends stay with me for the weekend helped the event not feel like it was done in a blink of an eye. I wanted to really have time to connect with all my guest and not feel rushed. By having all my out of town guests to the rehearsal dinner at the same venue as the wedding (but in a different part of the property) gave it a unique feel and allowed me and our guest to really settle into the space so we could feel comfortable and familiar with our surroundings (not feel like a guest on someone else’s property).
One of my favorite memories was waking up on the property to see my grandparents taking a walk holding hands (which they do everyday at the beach in Florida), and my dad riding a bike (which is one of his favorite hobbies), and being able to do yoga with my mom and sister (which is something we love to do together). For all of us to be able to experience our own passions in one magical place, tucked away in a secret place no one really knows exists was so magical.
Also, I must say I am happy we had the wedding at a location with no curfew or noise ordinances so that we could party all night and not get kicked out of our own wedding (which so many venues have to do). And the crepes really hit the spot for an after-hours snack once all the formalities were done and I could just feel relaxed and really savor every bite.
Junebug: What specifically drew you to Atrero Photography and their imagery?
Jennifer and Blake: We were really drawn to their unique and artistic camera angles and attention to lighting. We wanted a photographer that really saw it as an art and has a talent for seeing the opportunity to get a really cool shot by looking at the lighting, angles, and architecture that surrounds us. My husband also really wanted Atrero for their night shooting skills. Shooting in the dark is a challenge and we wanted someone who really could get great pics both in sunlight and in the dark.
Jennifer and Blake, we wish you all the best in your new life together! Couples, be sure to visit our World’s Best Photographer Hotlist to find your own perfect photographer.
