If you’re having a serious case of the Monday’s (it can happen to the best of us!), I suggest reading today’s Photographer Spotlight Interview with Paco and Betty, San Francisco, CA based wedding photography team made up of husband and wife, Marcellos and Whitney Parker. This sweet couple is as full of fun, joy, and passion as their gorgeous photos, and with that much energy and color, you’ll be starting your week off on the right foot.
How did you get into wedding photography? I worked as a designer for a music photographer and after 4 years I decided that I wanted to start shooting. At first I did not see myself shooting weddings because I thought they seemed too traditional and stressful. Then I saw a few photographers out there who were changing the rules of wedding photography altogether, shooting the way they want, getting beautiful images and finding success in it. I said to myself “I can do that!”.
What’s your favorite camera? lens? All we use right now are Canon 5Ds and currently, our favorite camera is the Canon Mark III. Our favorite go to lenses are Canon 16-35mm L II, 35mm L, 85mm L and 45mm T/S.
Do you shoot film, digital or both? We shoot all digital but are not opposed to branching out into film one day.
What albums do you offer? The SOHO album from Renaissance Albums is the best!
What is your favorite moment or tradition at weddings? The portrait session with the bride and groom is my favorite part of the day because that is my chance to be super artistic in a somewhat controlled environment with beautiful subjects who are willing and ready.
What really gets to you at weddings? Makes you cry? Makes you laugh? The vows and toasts always get us! They make my husband and I laugh and cry all the time. We love the way they connect us with the couple on a deeper level and know how loved they are by their friends and family.
What are your favorite wedding locations in your area? We love the wine country because it’s pretty much always sunny and warm there. San Francisco is awesome but the weather is extremely unpredictable.
What are your favorite destinations locations? Our faves so far are Mexico and Tahoe.
Where do you want to shoot next? We’d love to do a wedding in Hawaii and anywhere in Europe.
Describe your wedding photography style in less than 6 adjectives. Honest, Fun, Colorful, Relate-able, Modern
A tip or two for couples on how to look amazing and feel comfortable in their photographs? If you trust your photographer, you will be relaxed and your images will turn out great!
What makes you give yourself a mental high five? When I stretch myself to get out of my comfort zone and shoot images that are different than anything I’ve already done before. It’s hard to do and takes a lot of time and energy but if it works out, it’s all worth it.
One thing you’d like every bride and groom to know before their wedding? The camera can see your stress so do yourself a favor and hire a day-of planner.
How has being a wedding photographer made you a stronger photographer over all? There is a lot to juggle with weddings. I think overall, wedding photography has helped me better communicate with my clients and it has helped us learn to be creative on the fly.
How has witnessing so many weddings impacted your life/outlook? Marcellos and I eloped in front of our immediate families and it was really special, but now that we have been married for 6 years, we have been thinking about having a wedding or renewing our vows…maybe at our 10 year mark!
What are looking forward to most right now? We are pregnant and I am so looking forward to meeting my little girl and being a mommy!
