Argentina, Nigeria, and the couple’s life in Spain all found their way into the day. Valentina’s brother officiated, her mother painted pieces used throughout the ceremony and reception, and their one-year-old son, Enzo Oyedunni, was there for it all. The date also happened to mark Valentina’s parents’ 40th wedding anniversary, giving the family two marriages to celebrate.<\/span><\/p>\n

Choosing a Wedding Date With Two Reasons to Celebrate<\/span><\/h2>\n
Valentina and Bola met in 2022 and describe their early relationship as a mix of Argentina and Nigeria, Spanish tapas in Barcelona, and a hint of “liveliness and laughter.” A little over a year into their relationship, they welcomed their son, Enzo.<\/span><\/p>\n
Becoming parents prompted conversations about making things official. So on Bola’s birthday in November 2024, Valentina proposed to him on their way to lunch.<\/span><\/p>\n
Their chosen wedding date for the following September was also Valentina’s parents’ 40th wedding anniversary. With that date set and guests coming from all over the world, <\/span>finding a venue<\/span><\/a> and sending invitations became the first priorities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rather than buying a traditional gown, Valentina worked with seamstress Rosa on a custom outfit. She wore a corset and tailored trousers with a maxi chiffon button-up shirt layered over them. The shirt doubled as a train, with embroidered flowers individually placed across it.<\/span><\/p>\n
Her shoes were secondhand 2007 <\/span>Proenza Schouler<\/span><\/a>, while a subtle <\/span>Lelet NY<\/span><\/a> headpiece sat in her updo. She wore diamond earrings borrowed from her mother, and a blue stone necklace from her aunt was tied around her bouquet as her something blue.<\/span><\/p>\n
Later, she switched the chiffon shirt for a silk periwinkle wrap blouse inspired by kimonos. Hairstylist Cesar stayed with her for the nearly 10-hour celebration to handle hair and lip touch-ups.<\/span><\/p>\n
Bola wore a custom sandy suit by Spanish brand <\/span>Bund<\/span><\/a> with an open white shirt embroidered with his initials and <\/span>Lottusse<\/span><\/a> shoes. Eventually, both of them changed into <\/span>Lacoste<\/span><\/a> sneakers for the party.<\/span><\/p>\n
There were no required bridesmaid or groomsmen outfits. Guests were instead given references inspired by a field of wildflowers, with soft colors, florals, and fabrics they could comfortably dance in.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their online search for their wedding venue began in December 2024. “Once we went to see the venue we knew that was it. There was no further looking needed,” they shared.<\/span><\/p>\n
The 1900s house had the garden, views, and Mediterranean setting they had been looking for. “The venue was already the decor,” they said, so there was little need to compete with what was already there.<\/span><\/p>\n
Valentina’s <\/span>Pinterest board<\/span><\/a> evolved as planning continued, but the <\/span>color palette<\/span><\/a> stayed consistent: periwinkle and purple-blues mixed with lemon and lime. Since it was a daytime wedding, they leaned into colors that would be visible from the ceremony through to sunset.<\/span><\/p>\n

Valentina and Bola had their <\/span>first look<\/span><\/a> on a back terrace while guests were arriving and being served refreshments. Rather than staying hidden until the ceremony, they also had a chance to greet people before walking down the aisle.<\/span><\/p>\n
The ceremony took place in full midday sun, so guests were given paper umbrellas, hats, and customized hand fans. At least one fan has since gone considerably farther than expected.<\/span><\/p>\n
“We recently received a picture from a guest whose fan made it all the way to the China Great Wall haha,” the couple shared.<\/span><\/p>\n
Valentina’s brother served as <\/span>officiant<\/span><\/a>, and friends and relatives from both sides gave speeches. The banners used for the ceremony and reception were paintings by Valentina’s mother.<\/span><\/p>\n

A full wedding film was something they decided they could skip. Instead, they wanted shorter videos that showed the day as it happened rather than a more editorial production. Those are now the videos they find themselves rewatching.<\/span><\/p>\n
Florals, decor, and favors came next. Valentina and Bola handled most of the planning, using recommendations from the venue and <\/span>Instagram<\/span><\/a> to build their vendor team. Nearly half of their <\/span>170 guests<\/span><\/a> had traveled internationally, so Valentina and Bola planned a <\/span>welcome gathering<\/span><\/a> the night before.<\/span><\/p>\n
They met everyone at a beach club for drinks and snacks as the sun went down over the ocean. Instead of a complicated dinner it was simply time for people to catch up before the wedding the next day.<\/span><\/p>\n
That mix of friends and relatives from different places continued into the wedding day. Asked what stood out about the party, the couple’s answer was straightforward: “The people, the diversity, near far reunion, the mix of cultures.”<\/span><\/p>\n

After the ceremony, everyone moved into the garden for cocktails while friends of the couple performed acoustic versions of music from around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n
Then came the second couple’s anniversary of the day.<\/span><\/p>\n
A friend of Valentina’s parents gave a surprise <\/span>speech<\/span><\/a> for their 40th wedding anniversary, followed by a champagne tower and a toast with the guests.<\/span><\/p>\n
From there, everyone headed into the reception.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rather than choosing one favor and ordering it in bulk, they selected different pieces so each person would receive their own. They paired the keepsakes with sweet treats and called the idea “A flavor and a keepsake.”<\/span><\/p>\n
Each was packed into an individual bag, and Valentina’s cousins and best friends handed them out to more than 170 guests during the reception.<\/span><\/p>\n

Valentina and Bola used the sunset for their couple portraits with Junebug vendor <\/span>Jennifer See<\/span><\/a>, but they were conscious of not disappearing from their own reception for too long.<\/span><\/p>\n
“Jenn was of much help getting the right amount of pictures taken without us feeling we missed any moment,” they shared.<\/span><\/p>\n
Meanwhile, flowers from the ceremony were <\/span>repurposed<\/span><\/a> into a flower bar later in the day, and the party continued until guests were reluctant to call it.<\/span><\/p>\n
A few days later, Valentina woke up crying as she thought about how much fun they had with everyone in one place. The weather had cooperated, the food and music had delivered, and the international guest list that required so much advance planning had finally ended up on the same dance floor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Valentina would happily repeat her decision to keep her hairstylist with her all day. With almost 10 hours of celebrating, having <\/span>Cesar<\/span><\/a> nearby for quick hair and lip touch-ups meant she never had to stop and sort them out herself.<\/span><\/p>\n
Having planned most of the Barcelona wedding themselves, Valentina and Bola know how much work can pile up before the date arrives. Bola recommends hiring a planner for couples who have room for one in their budget.<\/span><\/p>\n
But once the wedding starts, they agree that the work should be over. “Trust the <\/span>professionals<\/span><\/a>, and give the work to them the day of! All you could have done until then, you’ve already done! Focus on enjoying the day.”<\/span><\/p>\n
